Levi / WE Garrett

I want to try some of the US scotches and must decide what I’m going to order. I would dearly like to know what the difference is between Levi Garretts and WE Garrets. Thank you Pieter

The two snuffs are very similar. The smokey/BBQ flavor is a bit stronger in the WE than it is the Levi, and the Levi is a bit smoother. Other than that they are about the same. In a blind taste (sniff?) test I doubt if I could tell the difference though.

I have been assured by at least 6 people at Conwood that they are the same.

It’s very hard to tell the difference.

I think they were different once, since my vintage ones of each more different from each other than my contemporary ones do. Even the contemporary ones seem to have a slight difference. It might actually be the same, but fermented or matured for different lengths of time like some whiskies. Or Conwood pulled a fast one and stopped making Levi and just fills the Levi bottles with W.E. Still, I’d trust Troutstroker’s nose over Conwood’s words. Tom or Trout, what’s the history on this? Garrett was one mill once, then two sons went separate ways or something, each taking the same recipe, perhaps? Then they were competitors until getting absobed again by the same company?

@Xander. Here is some interesting history on that very subjectConwood/American Snuff Co

Very interesting. I’m happy for this thread, since I decided to fill the snuffbox with WE Garrett this morning!
