Less is more

When I tried to stop smoking using just snuff I was doing well although I did find that my tolerance to it rose quickly, losing that refreshing lift that I got when I first started snuffing. Now I use snus to satisfy my nicotine cravings, I find that the less I snuff the better it is. Anyone else here factor in a snuff break to break a bit of the tolerance that you have developed. I have to use a degree of restraint as it would be easy to do all the time again, but definitely feel that I get much more out of snuff now.

I smoked a long time. I started out 5-6 a day it went up to 1.5 - 2pks a day. I started snuffinng started out every hour went to every 30 min. Now I’m at morning, after lunch, afternoon 5-6 p.m. before bed. sometimes in between. if I want to sometime I leave one out, most important is I am not smoking anymore and I snuff for the pleasure, when I want too. That’s is my story and I’m sticking to it. Ed

It’s almost about riding the addiction, where pleasure blends into dependency, if anyone knows what I mean.

So far I am not feeling any cravings for snuff, like were very present when I was addicted to cigs. I can become addicted to anything however. I recognize I have a addictive tendency for a lot of things.

For me, I don’t really jones for a bit of snuff, unlike when I used to smoke. I used to get cranky if I didn’t smoke when I felt like I wanted one. There really isn’t a set interval for needing to snuff, it’s more like I’ll want to snuff when I do certain things. Sitting down reading a book, maybe a little bit of something toasty. Throwing on a movie? Some Menthol or Quit sounds good. If I’m doing work in the back yard, I’ll throw some Berwick Brown into a bullet in anticipation. I guess at first, when I started snuffing to quit smoking, I had more “nicotine maintenance” habits, taking a pinch every time I had a craving for a cigarette. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn’t, but the important thing is that sometimes it DID work, which was enough to eventually stop the cravings.

It played a large part in helping me quit too, but I enjoy it now even more now I have broken the physical barrier which is the act of smoking itself. I am still a nicotine addict, but it is taking less of a toll on my body now I use Smokeless Tobaccos.

Regarding the nicotine diet, similar to other diets in general is the loading aspect. The loading spike is most significant in that the peak levels are the indicators of addiction. Hence cigarette smoking with it’s high nicotine spike is quite difficult to overcome. Snuff can have a considerably moderate spike although on top of the long medium level loading curve of snus it can be quite high. Fasting can be very rewarding but not likely necessary for users of snuff only. For dual users the simple withdrawal of oral tobacco use for a spell will significantly increase snuffing satisfaction and vice versa the exclusion of snuff use during peaking on oral tobacco will help keep sensitivity levels higher so it will be easier to enjoy the moderate spikes of snuff.
