What’s the legal status of snuff where you live? A shopkeeper in New York told me that nasal snuff is now banned for sale in the USA (bullshit, he had no idea what he was talking about). He was probably thinking of PACT and the FDA regulations introduced a few years ago. While they have cracked down on its sale, I bought some snuff yesterday, and I don’t think it was just old stock from before the new regulations. Snus is also available for sale in both San Francisco and New York City, and presumably elsewhere. I have found this thread: snuffhouse.org/discussion/3574/fda-regulation-and-snuff-in-the-u-s I figure that, 3 years on, it’s time for an update. I take it that snuff is still technically legal everywhere that tobacco is legal? Tell us about the regulations where you live.
It is totally legal in Turkey(untill 1980’s snuff was produced by goverment company). But import is limited with only tobacco producers (cigarette companies). Cigarettes have more profit so they don’t import snuff.
Snuff is legal in the UK, and not subject to tobacco taxes as far as I know.
It’s perfectly legal in Canada, there’s just no variety, it’s incredibly expensive and hard to find in retail stores. The closest snuff I’ve seen for sale in my area is at a specialty tobacco shop 2.5 hours drive from me and the only snuff available is McChrystal’s SP - $20 for the 21g tin. I believe the regulations drive most producers away and unfortunately the taxes make it less attractive to the consumer than cigarettes.
I think that the only recent place to have a ban on snuff was poland. I think.
i learned that poschl ozona gawith are registered trade marks in Turkey since 2000. I hope poschl company can find a partner to export its snuff to Turkey.
Bob, I certainly hope you’ve got that wrong as Toque has a stand at Euro Tab 2013 in Kracow;<) I think Poland had a ban from 1996 - 2000 for some strange reason.
Probably working on the theory that anything this nice can’t be good for you.
yeah it’s been lifted for a while. Sorry used the wrong tense.
It was banned, because English is hard for some people, whom don’t understand that one word can have few meanings. There was a WHO report in the '80 that said that ‘snuff’ was super ultra dangerous for health. Of course, it referred to chewing tobacco.
Its illegal in Australia, but you can import it for personal use there. Their reason is probably the same WHO nonsense (based on American poor use of the word “snuff”) that Filek mentions.
sale is illegal in australia. Which is an easier way to say the same thing.
