Least favourite scotch

I have every kind of American scotch still being made by American Snuff Co., U.S. Smokeless and Swisher. I’ve really tried to find things to like about each one, and I’ve tried to learn to tell them apart. I’ve come to love most of them. Starr is great because of its absolute plainness. Square is wonderful and a bit different because it’s darker and coarser than the others. Three Thistle is surprisingly smooth and easy to snuff. Superior is also a treat for the nose. Navy plain has a nice cocoa scent, similar to Carhart’s etc. but without all the sugar. Try as I might, though, I just can’t find anything to love about Standard. It’s very fine so consequently very difficult to avoid it hitting the throat, and the flavour is dusty and inferior. Maybe I just got a stale tin, but I doubt it–I bought it from Nicotine Rush and all their snuffs tended to be as fresh as possible. If we had to vote one off the island, my vote would definitely go to Standard.

Without a doubt Rooster is the worst for me

Standard & Rooster are both rather meh for me. I mostly prefer the Helme scotches for their variety.

Rooster and Garrett, to my nose, are very heavy on the BBQ/hickory flavour–especially Rooster. With Rooster it smells more synthetic, compared with Square or Three Thistle.

I didn’t find Standard unlovable, but not distinct enough from Rooster to earn a rebuy. There are a couple more that are equally boring or not unique, but If I had to only pick one to kick out (and all the sweets are already out) it would probably be Bruton for being so damn unpleasant.

Just curious to read if anyone has any experience with the Honest here. Picked up a tin at the B&M, and I think it’s alright, but don’t really have any other scotch experience to base that off of.

I love Levi Garrett

I have a can of Honest, but haven’t taken it more than a couple of times so far, the only other one I’ve tried(and still have) is WE Garrett plain. The difference to me, so far, is not huge.

@Jmitchelliv I have. I agree with Mr.O its not much different than Garrett. If anything, I think Garrett has a bit more flavor, but a lot more heritage!

My least favorites are the sweets!

Rooster would be least favourite. Bland, bitter and always goes to the back of the throat. Still fine for lipping though so i’ll use the rest that way.

I’ll be contrary and say Rooster is my favorite. Then, I don’t use it straight either, but as a mixer due to its incredible potency. I also don’t have problems with it hitting the back of my throat since I mix this stuff with English snuffs. To me, Rooster mixes particularly well with apricot, apple, and peach snuffs–a regular mixture for me. I can’t use any of the scotches straight. When I do I find my bronchial tubes in my chest get irritated, which means the snuff is going down farther than it is supposed to. I’ve never had this problem with any other type of snuff.

I am fond of Rooster as well.

I love Scotches, the only one I’ve tried (sweets not included) was Top’s Mild…not enough smoke or staying power for me.

Someone sent me peach one a few years ago, horrible in every way. Every other US scotch snuff I’ve tried I’ve really enjoyed. Navy Sweet is my current favourite and goes in to every home blend I make.
