I’d have to say F&T. I just think they’ve got this all wrong. Whoever signed those off needs a nose replacement or just a nose maybe. Abraxas with Prince Regent shows clearly how things could/should be done.
Most frustrating for me concerns packaging, not the snuffs. I would really like if Samuel Gawith and Gawith Hoggarth offered smaller quantities in tins as opposed to the tap boxes. You take a bit of a chance ordering 25g tinned in order to ensure the snuff is fresh. There’s a lot more wasted if you don’t like the snuff.
Poschl, if I wanted to sniff chemicals I’ll look under my kitchen sink
I’ve never tried Poschl. I’ve never heard a single thing about it that makes me want to try it. I’m seriously allergic to Bohican, of the FUBAR brand. I can’t believe anyone seriously likes it…
@JakartaBoy Poschl makes one of the finest, albeit lightly, mentholared snuff that serves to highlight the great tobacco, Radford. And, I’m not a fan of Wilson’s, it clogs my nose and too much of their snuff is ho-hum
@saucy_jack, I’ve certainly had to eat my words before when I’ve expressed uninformed prejudices. I’m sure it won’t be the last time. I’ve never really been drawn to Wilson’s, either, now that you mention it. I just don’t trust a brand that offers that many different flavors.
SWS. lovely scents, but such an awful drip its not even close to worth it. same with abraxas premium but not so bad, i think its to do with the rustica content though ive been fine with other rustica.

Yep…same here. Even the scents that I enjoy fade so quickly into a very bland tobacco base that it’s no where near worth the insta-clog.

I’m sad to say I’m the same way. Really lovely aromas and obviously quality snuff, but I get a bad drip every time. It’s a bit weird because after more than ten years of snuffing, the two SWSs I tried were the first ones to produce this effect. I’d read about this “drip”, but never really experienced it before. Oddly enough, I get no discomfort from straight rustica (from Toque) at all.
I’ll have to agree as well on SWS. I’ve only had the St James Parish Blend but the drip is just miserable. I have Havana Toast on the way and I’m scared the drip will be just as bad. My next point is not for a specific brand, but a category. Florals. They give me an awful headache. It’s a shame, because I like the floral scents. The headache is too much for me, though.

That’s a shame. I’m hoping SWS figue doesn’t have such an intense drip
@JakartaBoy it happens to all of us, friend. Poschl in general is a weird company. It just so happens they make the one menthol snuff I find fimd divine.
I experienced some of the same burning drip from SWS snuffs initially(Lundy Foot) but after getting used to them I don’t get that anymore. My biggest gripe in snuffs is with the freshness of oiled snuffs. After this last bag of crunchy schmalzler I received I have pretty much sworn off oiled snuffs. D black went from being a favorite of mine to one I hesitate to ever order again after receiving a dried out, crunchy smelly batch. At this point the only schmalzler I think I would bother trying is Sterneckers “un-greased” that they offer.
By “drip” do you folks mean nose or throat drip?
@franknsnuff i personally mean throat. its a harsh drip for me that makes me gag. doesnt happen with FoJ or abraxas’ cheaper offerings like firedrac (my all-time favourite) and dragun, which leads me to the assumption of rustica, or perhaps maybe the booze content.
@Firestarter0 Yes I though so and had the same issue with Creme de figue.
some windmill snuffs are like that, too, but I rather enjoy that about them. Maybe because I am also a pipe smoker?
@mouse idk, im also an occasional pipe smoker (its slowed down the past few months). never had it with a windmill snuff except latakia A/O. i get a bit of a drip with some germans… but nothing like with SWS. it does really frustrate me because if they were more medium grind and without the drip i would see them as the best snuffs ever.
Frustration : These little Ozona “coin - tins” I got today - I think the snuffs ( Orange, Cherry ) are pretty good - i enjoyed them - but these little tins are a pain in the ass.
I have to say Wilsons of Sharrow. As far as my preferences and possibly my nasal anatomy goes, they just don’t work for me. They’re usually too fine and fly all the way through my nose into my throat and make me cough. Add to that the fact that I usually find them “too everything”, too bland or too floral, too fine, too dry…it means I won’t buy that brand ever again. Frustrating was also that those little tins in some cases just didn’t want to open, no matter what I tried. Until I punched a hole into the bottom of the tin, tried the snuff and put it in the bin. No thanks. I know the brand has a lot of fans here but I won’t be one of them.
Ironically enough I hate most of the WoS snuffs, but some of my fav snuffs are made by them too. WoS tends to be, as the person above me states, too dry, too fine, too hard to open. I generally hate WoS, but they carry some favs too.
