I am still new to taking snuff. I started earlier this year and didn’t really take to it until the past couple of weeks. I spotted a stainless steel ‘smidgen’ measuring spoon in the kitchen drawer and eureka. The larger hits changed everything. I have been finding my way as a novice and have had a couple observations. I welcome any and all input, as again, I’m learning. The following observations are not indicative of all snuffs, but some of the ones I have tried. #1 - Snuff opens the airway of a closed nostril. I have one of my airways (nostrils) sometimes close a bit from time to time. Taking a hit into the good side creates an imbalance that used to kind of drive me crazy, but if I can get just a bit in the closed side (baby sniff amount, or rub a little in), it opens up. This allows me to then take larger hits and get a good balance. #2 - Taking larger amounts requires more maintenance. I used to take small hits and get no run, drip, sneeze, or need to blow. The larger amounts (not always) hit my throat, get me running, and dripping. I usually need to ‘hawk a loogie’ and blow my nose, then I’m clear and everything opens back up; and an alert calmness ensues. I can smell the snuff even after blowing and sometimes can slightly taste it, but a quick drink of water washes away the taste. #3 - Snuff really does have a medicinal quality. I have had an issue in the front temporal area of my head and snuff has been clearing it up. Also, snuff has helped my stomach. #4 - Toasts are where it’s at. Obviously an opinion. I don’t only like toasts, but they are my favorite. So I’ve become a fan of the spoon. It’s cleaner, I can stir the snuff well before using it, and I have better control when sniffing. I have not tried using a bullet, but will sometime. I have done the pinch, boxcar, and back of the hand; and while I had fun doing them, the smidgen size measuring spoon has become the way for me. I’m sure this will change over time, as my feet are hardly wet.

@Jim definitely give bullets a try when you can, you can find them on Ebay for good prices but I highly recommend ordering an Acrylic Bullet from ToqueSnuff.com if you can, I have two of the Toque bullets and they are much better than the metal ones I got from Ebay. Also I definitely agree that snuff has a medicinal quality, the “N” from it is just so entirely different and much better than from cigarettes. Keep trying new snuffs, I’ve been snuffing for almost two years now and have only tried the more mainstream snuffs, I would like to branch out to more premium snuffs and more connoisseur snuffs.

I just got back from walking the dog through the fen and had a new and changed observation. I pinched the Hedges three times during the walk. Two things… One, Hedges is complex. It feels great and the menthol in the cool breeze is fantastic. I get cinnamon stick and a very subdued and natural floral undertone as it wears off. Does Hedges use Lakeland tobaccos? Two, pinching is a natural method that is the most convenient and must be used. I just have to pinch and sniff a few times to get the hit I like, but it sure is handy (no pun intended). Also, I like drip. Don’t know if that’s disgusting?

@md363‌ I ordered a bullet today. One of the metal POSH bullets, but I plan to order a Toque bullet too. I’m in the snuff zone… trying lots of snuff, accumulating accessories, trying different methods, and learning what I can. It’s a good place to be. My favorites so far are medium dry fine snuffs. I really like F&T HDT, Toque LT, Hedges, White Elephant, McChrystals Clove, and WoS Tom Buck. I’ve tried a few others… SG Cola, Black Coffee, SP1, Zip, Elmo’s Reserve, Red Crest, KB Special; SWS Creme de Figure (which is good), Abraxas Cafe 11 (which is very nice), and a few others. I have a Old Mill order on the way and a couple Mr. Snuff orders on the way. I’m really excited to try more Indian snuff, some of the Old Mill selections, and more of the Toque releases.

I love my Posh bullets. The acrylic from Toque is also good. Sadly, I would avoid the ones offered by Mr. Snuff. I use the bullets while away from home. At home I generally use the spoon (titanium from Mr. Snuff). For some reason, I always pinch Hedges.

@Jim I’ve heard the Posh bullets are good and they are similar in shape at the part that goes to your nose to the Toque bullets. Hedges is one of my favorites and definitely my favorite menthol. Oh, and do try Toque Rustica if you can, it’s great for a change and is quite an interesting snuff if I do say so myself

I have remarked a few times that for me- since taking up snuff my seemingly perpetual headaches are gone. They are not quite migraines, but and are the result of a serious illness I suffered almost six years ago that caused some lingering issues with nerve damage. Several Docs noted that the headache will likely never go away- well its not completely gone, but I have suffered considerably less over time. I attribute it directly to snuff and whatever mechanism is occurring.
