Krups Burr Grinder

I’ve tried my new burr grinder today. What a beauty!! I’m already in the process of making some more Tucky, Karoo style. I’ve got my own Rustica and some pipe tobacco and cigars waiting to be “snuffed”. Can’t wait for the weekend to arrive. The machine might be a bit expensive for the purpose but I’m sure it will serve me well for many years. I love making snuff and this machine is exactly what I needed to create some fine stuff (fine such as in not coarse). Highly recommended.

About 6 months ago I purchased a Cuisinart Burr Grinder specifically for making snuff. It was perfect with its large capacity and storage canister and looks really nice, black & silver. I ended up liking it sooo much that it now sits on my kitchen counter serving its intended purpose, which is grinding coffee! I need to purchase a second grinder as I won’t switch back and forth from tobacco & coffee in this grinder. Burr grinders are definitely the way to go for grinding both coffee and tobacco!

@zzedo310, I felt the same about this grinder. It is so grand, almost a shame to use it for tobacco grinding. MIne is black and silver too. I might buy another one for coffee but Iv’e waited so long for this one as the supplier was out of stock. So I stuck some tobacco in there immediately so that I could not change my mind and use it for grinding coffee. The fact that it can be “fine tuned” makes it perfect for grinding snuff without the need to sieve it. The end product, when set to “fine”, is perfect for me.

I need a good burr grinder for roasted coffee beans.

Hey Pieter - is your grinder super loud when grinding??? Mine has this ear-piercing high pitch ‘motor’ type noise. (Obviously, grinding coffee beans is not going to be quiet) but the sound is not from the grinding, the machine itself is super loud! I can’t complain, the grinder was appx $50 but I got it on sale for around $25!!! I’ve used my ‘standard’ grinder for Rustica and that got pretty gunked up, surprising seeing as the Rustica seemed to be completely dried out. How does your burr grinder handle ‘gunk?’

Would you folks who have purchased burr grinders that you are happy with mind posting the model numbers? Those of us considering investing in one would appreciate it. Thanks very much.

Good idea, PipenSnusnSnuff. That would be great.

Cuisinart Supreme Grind Automatic Burr Mill DBM-8 I love mine. @ Zedo310 Moist tobacco will cause it to gunk up a little, but easy to take apart and clean. Noise level when grinding is tolerable, but if you run it empty it does make a high pitched whurrr. It will not cause a lot of dust. What I mean by that is the bean hopper (for tobacco or whatever) seals tight, and the finished product hopper is tight also.

@zzedo310, yes my machine also makes a loud whining sound when running empty. I think it’s because of the high speed motor. I’ve not tried grinding moist tobacco but I would think it will aslo gunk up. I always dry my tobacco completely before grinding and then add moisture afterwards if needed. Nice thing about the burr grinder is it can be cleaned easily if it does gather some gunk. My machine is a Krups Burr Grinder model GVX 2. I paid R500.00 which is about $62.00. In the US you should get it for about $55.00 or even less. Btw., Krups is a German produck, made in China!

yeah I saw one for about fifty dollars and one for about 100 though it was part of a fancy ass coffee maker.

I’m gonna get me one of these when i can afford it: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Delonghi-KG79-Professional-Burr-Grinder/dp/B002OHDBQC/ref=sr\_1\_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1295376007&sr=8-3
