Kaszubian Tabakierkas

L

Does anybody know an online source for Kaszubian Snuff and for traditional Kaszubian snuff boxes/horns? I have checked a lot of the Intenet, but cannot find anything. I know that mistersnuff.com carries snuff from Poland but I would like to try the really traditional hand ground stuff. Thanks for any links on Kaszubia and snuff taking. regards, Patrick B. Ludwig

You may want to write to one of our best craftman in making horn snuffboxes - Mr. Piotr Turzyński e-mail: pturz6@wp.pl http://www.top25snuff.com/zdjecia-tabak-galeria/album.html?albumid=137&groupid=1

Szanowie Panie Filek Thank you very much for your help. Are the horns shown the work of Mr. Turzynski? Very nice! I remember seeing a video on Kaszubian snuff on youtube, featuring a Tabakierka maker. I know top25snuff.com of course, but, despite my Polish Nanny (in blessed memory) many years ago, I unfortunately do not speak the language. Best regards and thank you Patrick B. Ludwig

If I may correct you, it should be “Szanowny Panie Filku”. Almost good Indeed the link contains pictures of Mr. Turzyński’s snuffboxes. A very recommended craftman. A good watch would be: http://top25snuff.com/video-snuff/leniuch/video/26-tabaka-w-rogu-polska-dobrze-smakuje.html where we can see Mr. Rudolf Kręcki at work.

Thank you very much for your advice. My Nanny died many years ago, I was 7 (58 now), so I must have forgotten a lot. Although listening to Polish still makes me feel very much at home … Best regards Patrick B. ludwig

The thing in buying a horn snuffbox is the fact, that you always should know who is the maker. It’s somehow a prestige, but most of all everyone will know that the horn is made by a very good craftsman. Besides that, when buying yourself such a snuffbox, there is almost always (depends on the maker) snuff in it. So you’ll get two in one.
