While browsing nicotinerush.com I noticed a link to the site: “Kanna Snuff”. I checked out some of the items for sale and became intrigued with the powdered Kanna snuff, which is apparently made from a plant native to Africa and Asia and does not contain tobacco. From what I’ve read, Kanna can be eaten, smoked, and snuffed (hence Kanna Snuff). I’ve read around the web about Kanna and there doesn’t seem to be a real general consensus on its effects. I’m hoping there are some people here who have tried this stuff and can share their experiences and opinions with us as I am very curious. Ive read that it burns the nose but that may of been people doing large lines of this stuff and not an experienced snuffer taking an average sized pinch. Please, share any knowledge you have of the subject. I’m hoping to hear of some positive experiences with it that some of you may have had. Enlighten me !
Its not to be taken in large doses. Even a snuff sized pinch is enough to make you feel ill. Tiny portions are all that’s needed. Yes, I’ve gotten some from Tom and it is rather potent. Its not really something to use for fun, although it can make you relax a bit, once the initial effect fades. Mostly it just makes you zone out for awhile, but you still retain all your faculties. Its an odd little herb, but I think it can be useful. The effects only seem to last about 15-30 minutes. Repeating the dose is ineffective since the brain needs time to regenerate its seretonin levels. Increasing the dose will make you feel very anxious. A lot of reports I’ve read are people getting frustrated with it becuase they don’t have a signiificant effect the first few times, and then increase the dosage, feel ill and end up not liking it. You need to be patient, and use only small amounts, infrequently. I don’t find it burns my nose, probably becuase its groud quite fine and very professionally, and also because my nose is used to snuff. It does make my nose start running quite a bit and will induce heavy sneezing.
interesting!!
I would imagine that many of the erowid experiences are from idiot teenagers/college students that railed a huge line like some of the snuff-morons on youtube. I am curious about the experiences that Snuffhouse members have had as they understand the proper way to take a snuff… How about some authentic reports from those here who have used it?
WOW L/S you are really in tune with your telepathic tendencies. All I had to do was think and you posted exactly what I wanted to say. Thanks Dear
I also saw some other herbs on there, for instance, kratom. Has anyone tried any of the others? If so, what were your thoughts on those?
Kratom is the only one I have personally tried. I haven’t had any of Kanna Snuff’s variety but I plan to. Kratom reminds me most of a feeling one gets from Vicodin or Percocet, but of course in no way identical…just the closest thing I can compare it to. It produces a feeling most comparable to an opiate. I had some friends in Florida who were into exotic or shamanic substances so they exposed me to it. I found it very mellow and enjoyable, although I know at high does it can make you very nauseous and even cause vomiting. However when taken responsibly and in moderation I found it to be a very enjoyable substance and one I look forward to trying again
@ L/S and PP: I thought that is what I did. I am curious about the kratom, and kava kava as well.
I ended up ordering some Kanna from the site and it arrived very fast ! Within a few days! It has a subtle smell/taste to it. Kind of grassy and herby. If it were a real snuff, it’d surely be considered a coarse grind. I have experienced no discomfort using it thus far. It does seem to give me a runny nose. I’ve only snuffed perhaps 1/4 of a gram, as I’m treading cautiously. I am not sure if I’ve been experiencing any of its supposed effects or if its in my head, I will need more time to experiment with this. As what Xander and others have mentioned, it may take a few days before you feel any effects. I will report back to this thread as I learn and experiment more with its doses and effects.
Everyones tolerances are different. It’s no different than alcohol in that regard. Some people can drink one beer and be trashed, where others can drink 12 with no noticeable effects. (maybe overly dramatic, but you get the point). Were all different.
Don’t buy it thinking you are going to get any kind of great buzz from it. You get a bit of a stimulant type feeling from it but anything other than a small pinch gives a headache and a sneezing fit. In my view its just one of the group of ‘legal high’ type substances that are more trouble than they are worth - it’s certainly not snuff, nor does it smell or feel pleasant in the nose. Really, it sits with the fake ecstasy and weed you get in head shops more than snuff. Ive got nothing against any of that stuff and these are personal, subjective comments just don’t expect too much.
@ Micheltn Don’t disagree with snuffster. He is the ultimate authority on everything.
I did not buy it expecting a great buzz, it was more out of curiosity. I have not experienced any sneezing fits or headaches from it. I’ve used it about 3 or 4 times now and I’ve done the same amount I’d do if I were snuffing anything else (but only in one sitting - not repeatedly like with tobacco snuff). When at home, I usually snuff off the tip of a pocket knife, like a poor mans snuff spoon. It does seem to produce a somewhat light-headed zoned-out kind of feeling but its very mild. The consistency is rather…well…inconsistent - in terms of the grind. If I had a fine enough screen to filter out the larger pieces, I would do it. I will try the under the tongue method next time, Micheltn. I’ve never tried X , so I cannot compare them.
As far as kratom and kava kava go, I can give my experience with them. Kratom, as far as I know, isn’t used as a snuff in any of the countries where it’s traditionally used. It’s commonly chewed or made into a tea. If you really want to get silly, you can make it into an extract. It’s an opiate, although paradoxically many find it to have stimulating effect, rather than the sedation more typical of such substances. At higher doses, it can result in nausea, vomiting, and hallucinations. Personally, I find a nice quid of leaves chewed over the course of an hour before bed makes it just that much easier to get to sleep. Still, I haven’t bought any in a while, simply because most places are insanely overpriced. I have thought about buying my own kratom tree though. Kava kava on the other hand, is more like alcohol. The ground roots of a plant are used to make this drink in Polynesia, where it is drunk like a tea. The effects are much like alcohol, including the eventual risks should you over indulge. If you really want to get wild, I’ve heard that blokes from Fiji are rather fond of drinking kava kava while drinking rum, for something of a one-two punch, if you will. As with everything else, the key to these two is moderation. Edit: Speaking from personal experience, don’t try a kava kava×alcohol combo anywhere but home. While one glass of either on their own is nothing particularly special, I did try a typical amount of kava dropped in two glasses of wine after I heard of how it’s mixed with liquor in the islands of the Pacific. I had about two glasses worth of wine in a tall glass. I think I made it about fifteen minutes before I crawled over to the couch and passed out. I’m something of a drinker, so I imagine for someone with low tolerance to the effects of alcohol, the impact would be more pronounced.
Shikitohno really described Kratom well. I wasn’t aware that it was actually a bona fide true opiate. I thought at most it was like a partial opioid agonist or something. Good stuff at low doses IMO. Then again I have always been a fan of OP8’s and full opioid agonists. Such is life
actualy kartom is an opioid. It’s like an opiate but not the same thing. The withdraw from what I’ve heard is actualy worse then with opiates but much harder to actuacly get hooked on. To be an opiate it has to be from one type of poppy. Doesn’t mean it can’t be like an opiate in many ways hence an opioid (oid means like, like humanoid). Which most opioid are opiate antagonists. Because they use the same receptors in the body. Which has a duel effect one the actual opiate can’t bind to the receptor and the body will lower the number of receptors on cells for a time. (it’s a natural way the body protects its self. While not change your body chemistry in the same way allowing you to not withdraw in the same way. The body is a strange thing by the way.
bob answered my question in away, but I would still like to hear a bit more of his opinion. I have chronic pain from a degenerative disease in my discs, and of course living in the US the doc prescribes me pharms. These are highly addictive, and I’m trying to cut down on the things that my body is dependant on. I guess my question is, would kartom make an effective herbal alternative to prescription opiod pain management, or should I just stick to the necessary evil that I’m already on?
Not sure. I would say maybe give it a small test run. See if it does anything. Though it could make things worse. Best bet in my opinion from everything I’ve “Read” or “seen” would be to slowly reduce your dose by small fractions. Also with such medications the tolerance and withdraw actualy reduce much faster then something like tobacco or alchool. So even waiting an hour or two hours longer then usal (not sure how possible that is). Should not make everyhting all better but should mitigate some of the severity of any dependency. It has to do with the manner in which this type of tolerance is regulated by your cells.
@bob Thanks…I will definitely research this further. Anything that help replace, or even reduce the amount of harmful Percs I have to take would be welcome!!!
FischTix, I know this thread is old, but if you read this it may be of some help. I am a former heroin addict. I went without any drugs for about ten years, then decided to try kratom for degenerative disc pain in my back. I found it to be nearly as effective as vics or oxycodone, and yet, it is far less addicitive. I’m not an expert by any means, but for me, it really helps w/ my back pain and I take it daily, mixed w/ apple juice and slammed down. By itself, it tastes horrible. But it is very effective and has a threshold dose. Meaning you can’t get too loaded on it. I highly recommend giving it a try. I also snuff kanna, which is nice in small amounts, and tobacco snuff always!
I’ve tried kratom and it helps with pain. Not really something you could center a party around. I used it semi regularly and didn’t notice any type of tolerance increase. It would help reduce the need for pharms for sure. Even if you alternated so you could use the pharms less often.
I’m a bit of a kratom enthusiast, been using it on and off for a few years now, though now its only for sleep. It’s definitely a better alternative to pain meds, but it still comes with dependency. The w/d’s are not nearly as bad as the meds, but they aren’t a walk in the park either. And if youre not used to the w/d’s of the pain meds, then they’re gonna be uncomfortable. There’s a forum dedicated to this plant and tons of people have made the switch and are very happy to have done so. As for it helping with pain, it’s actually very good for pain, but certain strains are better than others for pain releif (Bali and Indo’s). It typically lasts around 4 hours or so, so it’s about the same as the meds. And, as bob said, I stayed at the same amount for over a year, so once you find a sweet spot tolerance is easy to take care of or it just doesnt build up much, if at all. Just make sure to do some research so that you know what you’re getting into, because the dependency issues are still there. That forum is a great source of information, just not sure if I can list names of other sites here. It’s an easy google search though.
I also found sucking on the leaves seems to work best for me. Like chewing tobacco but swallow the juices.
I have recently seen some u Tube videos of “addiction specialists” stating that Kratom is really dangerous and addictive. I even a video of a woman in rehab for it, sobbing and saying it was as bad as heroin. Its just goes to show you that there are people who can get addicted to almost anything. I know there is a lot of serious misinformation about it. Coming from serious personal experience with opiates, it is my opinion that Kratom is not even in the same league as prescription pain meds. The stony feeling people are talking about is from taking way too much. It has a stimulant effect at small does, and more sedative and pain killing effect at larger doses, say of 5 grams or more. I’ve heard that a lot more can make you vomit, but there are no recorded deaths from it, ever. I think its popularity as a “legal high” will get it banned in some states, if not nationally(in the US), mainly because all it will take are a couple of teenagers getting wasted on it mixing it w/ vodka or something else. I plan to lay in a huge supply of it before they make it illegal. Those are my feelings about it.
