I love it! http://verzamelen.marktplaats.nl/militaria/404498475-emaille-verzet-strijder-snuifdoos.html ( top view ) My first real snuffbox. 5 cm Diameter, 1.5 cm high.
Looks very nice. Do you know what the initials stand for?
Yes, It stands for : Nationale Federatieve Raad van het Voormalig Verzet Nederland Translated by my best efforts : National Federal Council of former Resistance of the Nethelands.
Better than your soap dish, well done.
Haha, indeed. This one is made of Emaille.
I was hoping you’d win that bid…but .35 is wicked good…NICE deal…congrats sir!!
Very nice looking snuffbox you scored there Michel, and at a great price too.
Have you seen this one on ebay? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=380307938999&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT If only I had the money, its a beauty!
The sad thing is most of these beautiful snuffboxes end up in the hands of non snuff taking collectors instead of snufftakers who might actually use them.
@Xander, exactly, and it pi**es me off. What is the point in having something as beautiful as that, designed and made with a specific use in mind, sat in a cabinet or cupboard somewhere gathering dust. I would treasure that, fillit with something good and use it every day, show it off, share it round, do with it what its supposed to do!
I can’t get too grumpy. I have several beer steins that have never had beer in them, but I do drink beer!
I have a collection of cider mugs, some of them pretty old, and I try to keep them all in rotation. It might be a pretty slow rotation, but I feel they deserved to be used rather than sit on my bookcase watching me sip from their brethren.
Now I must google cider mug images.
Hahaha…me too Xander. I am intrigued!!
Well I’ll be! Apparently, if I am correct here, these are stoneware mugs that cider is traditionally consumed from. Nice stuff…if u can get past pics off all the I Heart Cider coffee mugs that show up on the google search…lol!
Hahaha…reread the header…$35 not .35! Still an awesome deal…I was seriously blown away that someone would let that baby go for 35 cents…but, $35 is still a helluva steal! Damn I feel silly(what’s new)!
I hate to say it, but it looks suspiciously like a small portable ashtray. Might be wrong though. Someone bought me something very similar some years ago in Germany, admitting that it was an ashtray, but thinking I could use still use it for snuff. I’ve never used it for either ash or snuff.
@FischTix, spot on, Im a bit of a traditionalist in all areas of my life; snuff, pipes, mugs, lots of hats…etc. http://www.westons-cider.co.uk/Shop/Merchandise/Memorabilia/2-Handled-1-pint-cider-mug- - / I have one of these, its probably my favourite! Makes Cider taste even better. Back to the topic anyone?
I received it, and it looks very nice! The only things is I must use it for courser snuffs, or don’t put it in my pocket. Reason for it is that the joint ( right word ? ) which attached the lid to the box is not totally on top of the box. So you see tiny holes… I keep it home an dleave it on the table, with I think some F&T Old Paris in it. See photo. I’m not sure it was intended as a snuff box, but I like it and I am going to use it for that
Good luck with it,If it works it works, but as you say it’s not a snuff box. For anybody buying snuff boxes online remember that there are a lot of people out there who don’t know what a snuffbox is or who just put the description ‘snuff box’ on there because they sell well. A good perecentage are pill boxes, cosmetic boxes and the like. Most of them won’t have a sufficient seal or hinge for snuff. Good snuff boxes can be found for small amounts, but not often and you need to have at least some idea what to look for. The problem with keeping course snuff in this one is that it will loose a lot of its moisture quickly due to it not having a good tight seal. Personally, I thinkl you would be a lot better off paying a bit more for something designed for snuff that will last, a good snuff box is half the pleasure for me.
