Just spotted a couple of new snuffs on Jaxon’s site, Dukes Brown and Queens Special. DB is listed as an SP type with strong traditional tobacco taste, and QS is listed as cherry and vanilla. Both are listed as fine, but not entirely sure if that refers to the grind or quality. Anyone tried these yet?
36 views and no replies, I assume I’m the first to have seen them…?
Maybe. I’ve never had any of Jaxons snuff before.
Ah, good point! For those who don’t know, it’s at snuff.me.uk
A tin of each of these new ones arrived in the post yesterday; Duke’s Brown is basically akin to WoS Best Dark. None the worse for that, I have to say. Queen’s Special is described on the website as having a cherry and vanilla scent. if those two combine to give a “Parma Violet” scent then that’s what you’ve got - an SP with a violet scent like you’d get from sweets. I like them both. Incidentally, on and off the subject, with the new EU regs about names of tobacco products, although on the snuff.me website, Jaxon’s apricot, cherry and raspberry menthol are still advertised with those titles, I’ve seen them on other site now called “apri cool” “ripple cool” etc.
I had the Queens Special, it was very nice, and I usually don’t like sweet snuffs. The box arrived broken so I gave it away, but I would defiantly try it again.
Did a quick google search and I don’t see that Jaxon’s has a site, do you have it off hand ?
@yisraeldov The site for Jaxons is snuff.me.uk
The queen’s sounds nice. I’ll have to order a few tins.
Got mine the other day. Duke’s Brown seems like Viking Dark, or something close. Really good. The Queens…hmm, it reminds of something else, but I can’t put my finger on it. Real nice cherry and vanilla, fluffy, slightly moist. Seems like it’s a Sam Gawith product. Anyone have thoughts about this? I like all the Jaxon’s I’ve tried so far. The Extra Strong is a dark, slightly coarse menthol with a rather strange additional scent. What is it? It’s growing on me…
@mrmanos The Queens… Celtic Talisman? … and are you sure the Duke’s is V.Dark not V.Brown?
@50ft_trad…Yeah, Celtic Talisman seems like Queens! And Duke’s Brown is likely V Brown. Whatever they are, they’re pretty good. I also got one called High Drive, thats flavored, according to the shopkeeper, like Red Bull energy drink. I’ve never tried the drink, but the snuff is quite nice. Fluffy, almost reddish-brown in color, slightly moist. They’ve had that one for a while, but I had only tried a dried out tap box of it. The sealed tin is much nicer.
@mrmanos how is the nicotine hit on the High Drive ? I think I will have to try that one on my next order. Problem is that I can’t order more than 70USD at one time or I have to pay extra VAT.
What? Are these confirmed to be made by Sam Gawith? I love Sam Gawith and their style of coarse, moist, fluffy, dark snuffs. And what with their now-reduced selection, I’m definitely interested in this if they’re contracting with SG.
They have several snuffs made by SG. I think the High Drive is the now discontinued Guarana, the Queens Special sounds like Celtic Talisman, and then there’s Coffee Cream, Toffee, and several others. If these are all registered and fully compliant, it means another lease of life for some SG snuffs we would otherwise have lost
Had a look at the Snuff.me.UK and notice they will ship to the U.S. but not to all the state’s. Why do they exclude some of them? Of course my state is on that black list. What BS.
I believe they ship to states which haven’t outlawed distance selling of tobacco (or something to that effect). In other words, blame your state, not Jaxons. They’re just avoiding law suits
@50_trad never an issue with Toque or Mr.Snuff. Ordered many times from them and Snuff Store also. “???”
Then just be extremely grateful that there’s someone who’ll do whatever’s necessary to get you your snuff. You can’t blame other companies for wanting to keep their noses clean.
Snuff.me.uk is the maker of Jaxons ? I really like the Queens Special, just got a bit tin of it, great scent and it really lasts, a few hours even.
The 1969, says SP but it is mentholated, don’t know if that is normal for SP’s or not.
The Chocolate Tangerine permeated everything, not a fan of choclate orange so I’m going to give it a pass.
@yisrealdov The guy who runs snuff.me.uk is the same guy who commissioned Jaxons snuffs from Samuel Gawith. He named the Jaxons brand after his dog.
I did areview of the Queens Special if anyone is interested.
The High Drive is guarana scented. It’s good, a real nice medium brown, and kind of fluffy. But it’s not any higher in nicotine, nor does it have a guarana-like speediness. It’s just a good snuff. I wrote to the company asking what flavor it was, and he answered back and told me it was guarana. He said it was like “Red Bull” energy drink, but I think it is only the flavor, not the actual seed or fruit or whatever it is that gives that drink it flavor. At any rate, you should try it, it’s quite nice. I like their Rose, and Queen’s Special too. I’ve never tried the chocolate/tangerine.
@mrmanos. Don’t really care for the Chocolate Tangerine, not chocolate and orange in general, I got a large tin as a replacement for another small tin that was out of stock.
Hello Guys , yes the new Jaxons is out retail - www.snuff.me.uk and wholeasle - www.snuff.ltd.uk
Samuel Gawith no longer make jaxons snuff , which has allowed me to improve ( in my own opinion ) the snuff and scents, design and away with the old plastic sliders
NOTE: anyone that wants wholesale or can recommend any online shops or high street shops i can get in contact let me know through info@snuff.ltd.uk or through IM on here
cheers
Jay
A new name to me and in the UK too. Thanks for the heads up. I will have to give them a try.
I ordered Jaxons club special (chocolate tangerine) about a month ago to replace wos chocolate orange, its a different take to it…but I must say I am really enjoying it and it has been my all day snuff since, find it perfect for every situation. Smells exactly like mcvities chocolate orange club biscuits lol.
I will definitely try other jaxons snuffs I was pleasantly surprised by the gr8 quality. I think I will stock up on this and also get the alpine and queens special.
Been taking Alpine (Vanilla) and I am equally impressed, its become my new daily driver, been a week and its almost finished. Its second snuff from Jaxons I get and again the quality is really good, this brand is pleasant will have to continue with the other flavors to explore.
The snuff is rather moist and tends to release a lot of liquid in the nose (forward drip hits pretty fast).
I personally like that because you blow your nose and your left with the scent and the nicotine and don’t have to worry about your nose becoming clogged.
Flavor is strong and natural, has somewhat of a creaminess about it.
i find the jaxons are kind of underrated
they come in strong artificial flavoring but its done well in my opinion and does not remind me of child toothpaste even the frosted fruity ones (i love the frosted apri and ripple!)
english gold and queens special is great too and i like how long the taste/smell lingers with all the jaxons which could be too much for some but if you like fruity or sweet snuffs without too much or any menthol at all give them a try.
:)>- & ;))
today i mixed some “frosted apri” with lots of “english gold” i did not measure but until the peach/apricot smell blended in and was not too pronounced over the creamy/toffee/coconut
this came out great!
Jaxons. Strange snuff. Wonderful snuff. Wacky snuff. Wild, weird, stuff. I love it! Like @SunnyDay these give a feel of artificial flavoring. Not just flavoring - sweetness too. I don’t know if it’s a sugar or fake sugar like aspartame in diet coke. I hate diet coke though and love these. Have not put diet coke in my nose to compare! But all that strangeness aside the three I have (Club Special, Coffee Cream and Apri Frosted) are all delightful. The apricot is Not like Silver Dollar and WoS’ true apricot. But I like it a lot better than McChrystals apricot (though I wonder if they’re the mystery producer?) I wish I could pick them up at MrSnuff but I guess competition is a healthy thing. I see snuff.me.uk order for the entire lineup in my future Any updates on who is making this stuff for @jayjay and why they are so sweet aroma’d? I used to be offended by the sweetener but now I’m over and thoroughly enjoying it
Not sure who makes it, but i ordered a couple of tins recently, so will try to decode them when they arrive.
Samuel Gawith used to make it …I believe he switched over to Sharrow around the TPD time .
I ve been meaning to try thier plain for a while .
@Pikey The plain one is OK. I expected it to be it re-labeled WoS Natural (which I like a lot), but was surprised to find it different (tobacco, colour, even grind and moisture-wise) and a tad stronger.
Despite preferring the sweeter WoS Natural to absolutely plain Jaxons SP Premium, I will reorder another tin next time.
3 months later, still a big fan of the very off the wall Club Special. Just received another two 20g tins of it. My wife loves the Extra Strong and 1869 for their medicated qualities. The ES is a bit much for me but the 69 is nice and euc focused. I had Queen Special a couple times now. Quite Jaxon style in that it is weird, wacky yet moreish. In contrast to some older posts on this thread, probably from when SG ead the producer, QS is certainly Not Celtic Talisman. Word is that these are made by Sharrow these days? I would be inclined to agree as the QS smells of cherry cough drops just like WoS Red. The snuff I dont think will be a re-order, but hey - I thought the same thing of Club Special and now it’s one of my favorites. Now to try Duke’s Brown
Does the QS really taste like Parma Violets? I might be interested.
@AgentSmith I just learned what Parma Violets are just now! So I cannot comment on that I’d say though that I, personally, do prefer their Club Special, Golden Roast, SP, 1869 and Duke Brown (quite nice, and distinctly Jaxon) to the Queen Special as well as Frosted Apri. So for a first order of Jaxons maybe consider getting one of those too so you get more than one example. There’s a sugary aspect to many of the Jaxon snuffs that I’d love to hear explained. The color of the base on the sweet ones is too dark to have a meaningful amount of say WoS Ice in it
@ar47 Thanks for the recommendations.
Looking at the tin sizes and weights (20g as opposed to 25g), I’m guessing Jaxons are contracting these from McChrystal now, although I still haven’t tried any since they shifted production. I’ve still got a few tins of the Gawith made stuff squirrelled away somewhere.
I know this’s an old thread but here goes: I just ordered a bunch of Jaxson’s to reacquaint my nose with them. I’m looking forward to their arrival in about a week.
I have ordered the SP Premium & Club Special. As like SP’s and chocolate orange. Also tempted by Queens special as I like Celtic Talisman. But not sure if Queens will be a bit of a disappointment compared to Celtic Talisman. I did try the Jaxons toffee about 12 years ago when it came in the small mint tin type box. I thought it was sickly sweet and hated it. But since then their products have sounded to have improved.
Got SP Premium & Club Special today. SP Premium is very similar to Mcchrystal’s SP, which is a great SP. Club Special is like a chocolate peppermint with a candy orange back note. Very different to what I expected but I still liked it. Also lasts for a while.
@beantin, now that’s strange! SP Premium was absolutely plain (without a slightest hint of any scent), quite akin to WoS Natural aka Plain. I got a tin of it in 2018, it was from their “New and improved 2017” range already (sold in large WoS type tins).
But maybe I just wrongly assume that McChrystal’s SP is a flavoured one (with a typical citrus flavour).
@volunge both these snuffs came in the clear plastic sheet wrap and the same warning sticker on the base like Mcchrystal’s snuff does. I think Mcchrystal’s are now making the Jaxon snuff for snuff.me.uk I love Mcchrystal’s SP and buy it in tubs. I think they are basically the same. Mcchrystal’s SP has a slight bergamot start that moves slowly to a faint floral then a port finish. It is very subtle and to most people they don’t pick these up, so they think it is just the plain tobacco scents. To me WOS plain has a nice tea like flavour, which I do like. It’s name “plain” does not do it any justice, as it is a mixture of tobacco. Which is the base for Best SP & Tom Buck. .
Yes, mc chrystal’s are making the ‘new’ jaxons ? as far as I know wos does the grind for mc chrystal’s.
@n . I didnt know WoS do the grinding for Mcchrystal’s. Make sense as they are very similar grinds.
@beantin, yeah, my tin was the same - that plastic wrapper and all.
WoS Plain indeed has that subtle sweet note. I’m sure it’s tonka to blame (or should I rather say, glorify).
I need to revisit Jaxons SP Premium and ultimately try McChrystals SP. While I do like all the SPs I tried, I’m more a fan of the plain side of the snuff, though, and by “plain” I mean unscented or subtly scented only. WoS Plain is a good example of such snuffs. Another decent one - Mullins & Westley Particular, which is a tad more complex than WoS Plain, but still doesn’t fall out of the “plain” category (M&W snuffs are made by WoS now).
That said, my nose didn’t detect any other additional scent but tobacco in Jaxons SPP (sorry for reiteration).
Just got my Club Special today. Yes, it’s a little strange, but nice. I detect a little peppermint behind the chocolate orange scent. The other Jaxsons I will try later.
1869 hmmm? Nice eucalyptus heavy menthol snuff. Dark brown and very fresh, this is a pleasure to take. Not too heavy, but moist and fine ground. I like it.
@mrmanos yes that stuff went so quick once my wife found it that I think I missed putting it in the What Tin did you Empty thread!
How dark is that 1869? Hedges-dark brown or darker, like WoS Singleton’s Super Cool? And are all the Jaxons of the same grind?
@volunge it is not darker than Hedges. Not that WoS base in Dynamite
The new Jaxsons snuffs after a week of testing are all excellent! They have changed Dukes Brown to a superior SP snuff. Moist, fragrant, delicious it’s become my favorite. The CLub Special I love too. Not quite chocolate orange to me it nonetheless is definitely top rate. The 1869 is a better than average menthol. Queens Special is my favorite of the lot. I can’t identify the scent profile but I love it and will ordering all of again next time. Everyone should try them, I can’t say enough good things about them.
@mrmanos blackberry? I was wondering about the Queens Special as well I agree as well on Dukes and Club. They all though have an unnaturally long aroma
@ar47 Sorry for the late reply, but yes! I believe the mystery scent is blackberry. I just received another order of Jaxson’s, this time getting the apricot and raspberry along with queens and club, and 1869. They have become my favorite snuffs for 2019. Of course I still use lots of others, and have bulk rubs of Viking brown, London brown and Santo Domingo. I mean bulk tubs, not auto fill rubs!
