An old, old favourite of most UK snuffers because its the one snuff that just about every little newsagent/grocery store seems to stock; usually in fairly useless small tins but you do get the larger vacuum sealed cans from time to time ( a tip on those tins: quite often they are impossible to open, just make a very small piercing with a sharp instrument to let the air in and the lid will come straight off, then put a small piece of Scotch tape over the hole). There is nothing delicate or delicious about this snuff but in its own basic way it is a very satisfying product. The first aroma a lot of people get with this is of chocolate or cocoa powder - I don’t know why that is but it really does have it. No.1, and its brother Top Mill No.1 were sold everywhere in the old mining towns of Northern England (obviously, miners couldn’t smoke when underground) and its fan-base is probably still those areas. The snuff is of medium grind and nicotine content and, chocolate aside, not as heavily scented with bergamot or citrus oils as the Sharrow versions. Its a good snuff and because it is relatively plain not one to cause too much congestion if you spend all day using it. A must have snuff for any serious snuffers collection.
This is my go-to drinking snuff and I’m rarely without a tin of it on me. A straight forward, no-BS snuf with just the right amount of burn. Not overwhelming in scent and has a nice, easy to take grind. I order a bunch of cans if this stuff at a time when I have the money.
Love this snuff. Good solid middle of the road nicotine with enough scent not to be boring but very easy to use all day. When i first started snuffing i was obsessed with this stuff and bought 35 vac tins. Sure glad i did now since they have ditched the vac tins. Bad move Imperial! This is the perfect introduction to snuffing snuff. Thanks for bringing this up @Johnny_Dingo
I really like this snuff. I can see why it has been around for awhile and why it is widely sold all over England. It’s a no nonsense snuff, good solid tobacco, nice flavor, not overpowering, nice grind, rather fluffy, mildly potent. I savor it in my lagre tin, and while I don’t use it everyday, I still think it’s a first class snuff.
So wish I could buy this in bulk. One of the best SPs made.

@SnuffySnuff You certainly used to be able to buy it in bulk - the first person I ever knew who took snuff used to buy it by the 1lb jar. Not sure if you’re UK-based or not, but if you are and you have an independent tobacconist within reach it might be worth asking them about it.
This is my favorite snuff…no nonsense…
Its not got too much scent …not too much burn …not too much citric or flowers…
its just SNUFF
and thats what im after…its does what snuff is meant to do …
hit you with nicotine without having to smoke…and giving you that buzz for as long as possible.
and is palatable.
it doesnt distract with menthol, distract with bergamot, distract with burn, distract with toast or smokiness.
just a fair mans snuff… a good mans snuff.
if you are a hipster i would advise you try the raisin and oyster with dual menthol ecalyptus au pair bran touche first.
