You may have read some of my complainy posts about my sensitivity to toasts (yet I get on great with Scotches). Well I’ve discovered that after a few glasses of wine the throat sensitivity to toasts goes away entirely. I dont know if it’s the effect of the chemicals in the wine on my throat or the effects of alcohol on my brain (alcohol is a natural painkiller). So this evening I’m shoveling Toque W&H up my schnozz and thoroughly enjoying it and the lack of coughing. I’ve also discovered I only cough when I take toasts up my left nostril. When I was a teenager I had 2 operations on my left nostril (pollips sp?), coincidence?
I dunno. You’re gonna get some in your throat sometimes. That’s just the nature of the beast. Its when MOST of it goes down your throat, that you have a big problem lol. I drop my adams apple and flare my nostrils, and it creates enough suction to pull it into my nose. I get it in my throat quite often, but not that much to where it bothers me or makes me cough like when I first started. My right nostril almost always lets some grains into my throat. There’s no way around it for me. The left- I could suck in the snuff with my all- but if I try that with my right side I’d be digging for the back of my skull… I wonder why you have this problem with toasts but not scotches…? I find the grind on those is almost exactly the same…
Wine is good for you. Here’s yet another example of its beneficial effect. Beer does a similar thing for me, haven’t snuffed with wine yet but I guess it’s time for an experiment! I’ve finally refined my snuffing technique to the point I seldom get any straight to my throat, but it’s been quite a long learning curve. Sometimes the finer grinds get past me though.
Cheers @transistor. Sounds like we have similar weird nostrils lol. @ddave. Yep beer has the same effect on me. Had just 2 bottles earlier this evening and snuffing W&H was fine. I’m drinking orange squash now to see if that helps (I shouldn’t be drinking alcohol, it turns me in to a right obnoxious tw*t). So far so good, so perhaps I just need to keep my throat well lubricated. Also found slightly hydrating toasts makes them much more manageable for me.
In any case i would like to second the tought on the alcohol effect. Every time i am slithly drunk i can take as much toast as i want and dont get any problems at all. When i dont drink, sometimes it gets nasty on the throat and stuff.
