ITALIAN SNUFFS

M

Dear snuff fellows : Have you tried Italian snuffs ? . Do you know plain, fine and golden yellow Italian “Santo Antonino” or “Leccese”? I would like to hear your comments about this snuffs. Pedro Macías Sevilla - Spain

W

I’d love to try some, I didn’t know any exsisted. Where can you buy them from?

M

Hello Walrus, I buy this snuff when I or some friend go to Italy. I will ask for a friend who is living at Firenza and I will tell you then. Is a very fine dry and plain snuff. Pedro Macías

P

Sounds pretty cool. Never pursued this variant of snuff. Does Mr. Snuff sell any by chance?

M

Funny that isn’t a part of the Mr. Snuff catalogue. Italian Snuff sounds like a must-try!

F

As I remember they aren’t made anymore.

P

Always looking for something “new” to treat my nose !

J

Unfortunately, these historic snuffs are no longer made :-q

S

Only thing now is a “snuffbox peach”,from Italy.would like to try one.Named because the fruit resembles a shape of a snuff box.

F

Poschl’s Santa Caterina (blue version) recalls the taste of the Italian snuffs, so there’s still hope to try a bit of the Italy’s snuff nature.

Santa Caterina is an excellent snuff, too bad its hard to get outside of Italy. @snuffykib and then there are those beautiful snuff bottles and boxes made from bergamot orange peels!

You can buy them from a distributor in Germany. Blue and red version.

@Prismaster yes I know you can. The German webshops at least have them. However, I thought they had to get them indirectly from Italy at retail price first.

I love St Caterina, the blue by Poschl. I recently procured a 1936 Regno de Italia package, unopened. It is very yellow in color, with faint taste, most of the aroma has long since evaporated. I put it in a tupperware tub with a damp tonquin bean. It is getting better, bit by bit, every day. I notice that it is quite strong in nicotine, and since its so mild, I can snuff quite a lot of it. I am hoping it absorbs more tonquin. I will just leave the bean in it to keep the scent.

ah, just saw this post of you. i am not sure about how they do it. maybe the way you said or they get it directly from Pöschl as part of some deal with them. the distributor i speak of says that it is made for the italian market.

I got Leccese about three years ago from a friend who was on a vacation there, it was pretty decent snuff.
