Italian-made Snuff

Hello all. I recently found snuff and have really taken a liking to it. I already have a bit of a collection of tobacco and tobacco paraphernalia produced in Italy, and I would certainly like to expand this to snuff. My problem is that most of what I have found is made in England, Germany, etc. Is anyone in Italy still producing snuff? Thank you for any information you can provide.

I would like to know the same thing, actually. I seem to remember that both Italy and France have a state monopoly, so the choices are minimal, if there are any at alll, and I think they don’t export. I think Pöschl have a product for sale specifically for each country. (This is all just my rough memory; don’t quote me on any of that.)

There are so many reasons I would love to try itallian snuff. For one being part itallian it would be interesting.

I’d be interested too, since I love Lucio Fulci, and Bruno Mattei.

I believe there are a handful of Italian made snuffs but they are extremely rare. Extremely. It is possible to be looking for them your entire life and never come across them, ever. Within Italy, as far as snuffs go you may find the occasional Ozona president or whatever the government feels like letting in, but that is about it because the government has a monopoly and it is illegal to obtain tobacco from any other source. And pretty much no one in Italy uses snuff at all except for the novelty of belting out a tin of Ozona President and snorting it at the discotheque in front of your friends for novelty’s sake. Even there, the Ozona’s are very rare. Maybe you can try ebay? It’s surprising to see what kind of wierd things are sold there. Things I never thought I’d see at all are available just a click away, but if something is rare enough, there is usually a premium to pay (unless potential demand is also very low).

Its a shame that they aren’t available anymore, I can only imagine the Italians would have made some really fine snuffs.

I’ve meet italians that knew what snuff was and were into try my snuffs. Though they seemed to be aware of what it was they seemed really shocked that I would have some and did act like it was something really rare. Though they were sad that I didn’t buy it localy (they where in town for a month or two they told me). So based off of that maybe we need to get some itallians on this list and maybe they can hook us up.

Re-reading the other thread that cstokes posted, there is an active Italian snuff forum. I looked at it, ran it through Google translate and muddled through a few threads. They all seem to know that Italian snuff exists, but none seem to know where to get it. Most seem content with various Pöschls and the Santa Catarina which (somone can hopefully confirm this for me) is the Pöschl made product for the Italian market. Some also, in or near Switzerland will get some Swiss snuffs from there at times. Lore79 was the last Italian that was pretty regular on this board. I haven’t seen him post in awhile. Nicola037 is right, ebay is probably a good place to look, but having the right names can make all the difference. (Assuming the seller spells them right -you’d be suprised how many can’t spell “maccoboy” even reading it off the bottle.) Make sure you are using worldwide search settings.

Holy s*%$, snuff just keeps getting more fascinating…

Thank you all for the input. I hope to look into this more, especially Sant’Antonino snuff, to see what I can find. I’ll let everyone know if I can find an accessible way to acquire any Italian snuff.

i’m here, i’ve have no munch time to post but I’m still alive!

Hi, Lore! Glad you popped in. How is life and snuff in Italy?
