Just looking at Walrus’s ID and saw that he is an “ISTA Member.” Is that a rank attained on this board according to how many posts one makes? OR Is it: “International Snuff Takers Association?” If the latter, is this a promotional/fraternal organization? If not, WHY NOT?? I would be a card carrier!

It was an idea of the first owner, Alex. It never got beyond a designation that was granted on request (appearing on your membership profile) with a view to it one day actually being something. There were dozens of discussions and every once in a while someone would say they were going to make something of it and then the obvious difficulties killed whatever idea they had - the reality is that we are spread over the globe and for a club or association to exist in real time, not just on the web, you need some kind of committee or organising group to be able to meet. It would be a major piece of work to make it work; finance, objectives, leadership and the simple fact of what you do in the ‘association’ all have to worked out. That requires leadership and clear objectives, also a committment to stay with it - the majority of Snuffhouse memberships go dormant after about six months. @howdydave - Why not? Because people like the sound of it but don’t want to do anything to make it happen. Carrying the card is great, but do you want to get it going? (I certainly don’t have the time or inclination) Personally, I think it is a next to impossible idea. That said, if any member wants to run with it and make some kind of proposal involving Snuffhouse I would give any suggestion due thought. We don’t have any honourary titles here but maybe it should be a title handed out to members who make a serious contribution to the site and who have a mebership of two years or over. It woudn’t mean much in practical terms but neither do knighthoods:)

Maybe Mr. Snuff could offer ISTA snuff boxes… That’s about as “card carrying” as a snuffer could get! Cost of membership? The price of a wooden ISTA Snuff Box! I put this on Mr. Snuff’s Facebook page and got an immediate “I like it” from Mr. Snuff.
The response was: “Hi David, that’s a top idea. Send me some sort of design (black and white line art if possible) and we can get it going. There’s an initial significant set up cost because obviously the die has to be made. Not sure if that is the term, but somehow the laser has to be set up to copy the artwork exactly. I will swallow that as my contribution to ISTA if everybody agrees this is the way to go.” Sad to say… I’m not much of an artist. Join the conversation on Mr. Snuff’s Facebook page. I have also started a new discussion on Mr. Snuff ISTA snuff boxes.

You know… This “ISTA” sounds suspiciously like a branch of “The 5-S” which I mentioned on my snuff page several years ago! to wit: The 5-S There is a very old international secret society known as “The 5-S.” It’s roots in North America appear to go back to the immigration of the Hugonaughts. Very little is known about The 5-S except for the fact that it is international in scope and has members all over the world.
But there is no ISTA! Why would you want a snuff box with an imaginary society on the lid?
I’m sure that at least a few of us are members of the “5-S”! How do you think I found out about the 5-S?

I know an old man, yes he is older then me (I’m 70) he has taken Wilsons of Sharrow Wallflower from a old French box for many years. Just one snuff he is using. I rate him as a true snuffer, and no way would he join ISTA, or come onto this forum. I think there must be many out there just like him.

How about if it gets you a DISCOUNT? Seen the latest on the Mr. Snuff Facebook Page? MrSnuff – a discount for ISTA members? Now there’s an idea. With our new code module we can set up a code, say ISTA, and when someone buys the ISTA box we can add them to the list of people able to use the code.
I have to say, if the existence of the ISTA can somehow bring snuff to a wider audience and generate more business for the snuff industry (therefore, of course, keeping companies in business and giving scope for the expansion of product lines, etc), then all the better, in my humble opinion. And a discount as well? I’m in!
Is it just me or has this thread been tweaked so that it isn’t taken to the top of the list and flagged when a new response is added? With this latest development, I should think that every poster would be interested in it’s progress… A potential to save money on snuff is definately not “Less than nothing.”
