It’s very hot here in the UK at the moment and I’m off my usual daily rotation of (mostly) various SPs and a few others, in favour of Viking Blond which I can’t seem to get enough of this past few weeks. Perhaps ‘summer’ and ‘winter’ (and autumn and spring?) snuffs do exist but not always in the way one might think. In fact I’m definitely taking less snuff in this hot weather.

@Thunderbird - I know what you mean here and do agree that seasonal variation due change my taste for different sytles of snuffs. Though strangely the snuff’s that you seem to be ‘off’ at the moment are my ‘go to’ ones in hot weather. I’m a little pinch obssessed with the new Sir Walter Scotts new offering the St. James’s Parish Blend just now, but even that seems to fit this trend. In hot weather I tend to reach for the perique and Virginia blends pipe tobacco blends, as these seem to be more pleasurable/suited to hot weather and humidity (typing this making me wish I left that tin of Dunhill Elizabethan in my case!). Snuff wise in the heat; the Spainsh/SP style seems to be my preference along with Grand Cairo and the ever present florals. I go off menthols particularlly and rappee in warm weather.

This differs per person. I can take snuff whole day with this weather. Sure the moist ones that “oil” the dry nose. But sometimes I’m into menthol too, no problem. But I take menthol more in the flue season that is coming end of August/ begin September.

S

I’ve noticed that I love menthols at home but steer away while in the air conditioning at work.

S

I also find snuff better in hot weather and in summer in general than in winter. I think warmer temperature awakes the scents more than cold. Plus, in winter my nose runs more without the help of snuff, which makes snuffing slightly less pleasant.

S

I prefer snuff in fall and winter, but there are snuffs I like for summer, like Dr. Verey’s and sweet-ish/menthol types. But I also believe winter/summer temps play upon the aroma of different snuffs differently. Nice piney scents like Virginie is great in winter but in the Texas summer heat it could be difficult to carry it in your nose. Lol

Very strange, indeed. I didn’t like Toque SP Extra when I first tried it…but now it’s pretty darn good to me.

E

I always thought I’d prefer flowery and fruity snuffs in winter, medicated and SP in Summer. In fact, it’s the exact opposite, except that I like SP any time of year.

M

The overall conclusion here seems to be SP are well suited as summer snuffs?

I would tend to agree that SP’s are at least for me a good “summer snuff”. While I like a medicated/mentholated this time of year, SP’s tend to be a fairly good seasonal.
