I have one nostril that is more cooperative than the other one. Is this common?
Mine are like that, too. The right one always seems to have the power to send dry toasts and Scotch right to the back of my throat, while the left one seems to be a little less “Hoover-tastic” (Lol! I’m a shoe in for the out of context thread now!) But it’s twoo, it’s twoo!

I have the same problem. I am not so sure this is a normal condition. Probably it is something a nose doctor can take care of with surgery. Deviated septum or something??? This is why I have never asked…
The nerve path of the left is different than that of the right. The left brain is also not the same as the right. Practice breathing in through one nostril then out the other then back in, then out the first one. Use your fingers to accomplish this.
I read someplace that a deviated septum is actually pretty common, however most of the time its not severe ennough to warrant surgury or even be noticeable. Most people are not perfectly symetical. My nostrils tend to switch off who wants to be more cooperative. I guess the short answer is yes, its normal. You’ll likely learn to deal with it naturally.
my nostrils exchange power from time to time. It’s more noticeable during allergy season or when I have a cold of course. give a tiny pinch to the weak one and wait thirty seconds…then you’ll be able to blast them both.
For me it seems that quite often one of my nostrils is clogged while the other remains open (especially at the end of a heavy snuff day). However, which nostril is open and which one clogged varies
I think its very common, its certainly the same for me. You can help it to an extent by trying as many snuffs as possible to work out which are the best for you; some will make it much worse but you may well find a snuff that either doesn’t effect it or even helps. General rule of thumb is that heavily mentholated or scented snuffs tend to be more prone to causing congestion.
@wickedkitchen The 30 second rule works, but having to wait that long with a pinch already in my hand is like asking a five year old to hold onto a Snickers bar for 30 seconds without eating it.
Haaa! I get your drift Snuffypants
I was walking through the room as my wife was watching a yoga show and the woman was holding her nostril and breathing slow, so of course I stopped to see what was going on,haha! She said learning to breathe through your seperate nostrils is important. The left nostril controls the right side of the brain and viceversa. The part I found interesting, is that she spoke of pressure points under the armpit to relieve clogged nostrils–the left armpit controlling the right nostril and right for the left nostril. I am not clogged at the moment, but would be interested to see if this is actually true, …applying pressure to relieve the clog. It may be common knowledge to some, but is definitely new to me
quote bart; “She said learning to breathe through your seperate nostrils is important. The left nostril controls the right side of the brain and viceversa”. unquote Holy crap! My nose controlls my brain? It always thought it was “another appendage” that controlled my brain. ya learn something every day
And this is the reason I NEVER sneeze I suppose she was meaning, supplying nutrients to that side. Well, with a show called LillyAss Yoga, go figure!
Same here. Right nostril has a bone which limits my breathing and snuffing. Left nostril normal and far more sensitive.
It’s normal for me, and depends on the day and even time of day which is more free. Sometimes I have to pinch the open one shut to get a load in the clogged one.
@Carol ! Where you been hiding? Have you just been lurking? Your nose is fine. I’m using your hankys daily, they’re great! Any more in the future?
PParrot, you are right and wrong. Your nose does control your brain in the context you mentioned. You first smell and then you swell.
