Is there such a thing as, "Best Snuff for a Lady"?

A female coworker of mine has been struggling over and over again with giving up her smoking habit and I told her about nasal snuff as a possible alternative. Her reaction was, “Oh, no way! I tried that stuff once, years ago, and it was absolutely TERRIBLE!” I told her about the many varieties of snuff and the importance of a correct sniffing method and she softened her reply to, "Hmm. Maybe… I don’t know. Maybe if there was something that was actually pleasant and didn’t hurt my sinuses so much… " So, can anyone make any suggestions for her? She doesn’t like menthol cigs so I probably wouldn’t want to give her a pinch of my favorite, which is McChrystals English Menthol. I think she’s also not much of the “candy” type, but maybe if there’s something that women have given high marks to, but not too mentholated? I’d love to hear any ideas… Thanks!

My wife likes my blend of equal parts HDT, Wilsons #22, toque quit and lundy foot. She toots it on night shifts and sleep ins.

When I got my wife to try snuff she liked Toque Lavender and Violet.

Spanish Gem (high nicotine in the Quit base) Cafe 11 Dholakia Swiss Chocolate FUBAR Shot of Rum

Toque Pomegranate, perhaps? Very pleasant light scent.

Hmmm–Jockey Club? Old Paris?

First off, if it hurt her sinuses she’s been put off by sniffing it too far up her nose. As you’ve now put her right on that, how about something refreshing but not overly mentholated like 6 Photo Kailash or Special. De Kralingse Bon Bon is also worth a look, as it’s an old recipe recreated by De Kraligse’s master snuffmaker Jaap Bes, that’s described by whoever originally made it as being designed to appeal to women. It’s moist and not too finely ground, so it should be easy to take. One that is quite fine but smells nice is McChrystal’s Violet. And Mrs Pufnsnuff, who doesn’t take snuff cos it makes her dizzy loves the scent of Samuel Gawith KB Original, she always sticks her nose in the tin when I take the lid off. And don’t forget to mention that her nose will get used to absorbing nicotine, so she’ll get more out of it as she goes along.

Those are a good idea too!

Mine eschews florals and has a pretty little silver box filled with Dholakia White. Admittedly it brings tears of pain to her eyes every time she tries it, but she resents the idea of something soft and ladylike.

There are many, many snuffs that are still in production that are essentially variations on snuffs that were created for particular women throughout history especially the Georgian Era which was the apex of snuff and snuff culture. “Snuffy” Charlotte consort of George III of England, Queen Anne & Madam Pompadour were all champions of snuff and still today there are snuffs “inspired” by these personages or that I think are created with appeal to the fairer sex in mind, that said, individual has specific tastes but here is a list in no particular order, of snuffs I’ve offered to women that they, as a group seem to enjoy: 1. MdeK Pompadour: clovey & citrusy and named after Md Pompadour, courtesan extraordinaire 2. Stok Charlotte: very gently mentholated with a herbal, fresh mowed grass scent named perhaps for Snuffy Charlotte 3. MdeK BonBon: their website even says “eene soort voor Dames” (a snuff for ladies), it is a mix of essentials oils more musky than candy natural vanilla and tonka bean predominate the scent is “fixed” by the addition of amber, just lovely stuff. 5. GH Tia Maria: coffee liqueur, nice with a coffee or over drinks. 6. Touque Violet: gently floral not “flowery”. 7. Abraxus Cafe 11: another coffee plus liquor scent very sophisticated and high in nicotine very moreish. 8. Abraxus St.Casura an SP but with distinct complex floral notes 9. F&T Old Paris: smells of old books, dried fruit and liquor; very cosmopolitan 10. SWS Roslein: rose scent but not just the floral essence but you can smell the petals, hips and greenery in there as well, there is ameretto notes and ambergris that gives it good staying power with out being to “noisy” in the nose, it is a re-creation of Snuffy Charlottes’ favorite snuff. If you were going to read a book in a nice warm bath, THIS snuff is the one to use. Note: I don’t have any any personal experience with them, but several of chefdaniel’s Old Mill Snuffs seem like they would also fit the bill: Limoncello and Antebellum seem like particularly good candidates.

Maybe an artisan snuff like OM Limoncello or SWS Havana Toast? Both are very elegant snuffs IMO. The Dholakia Swiss Chocolate suggestion by @fredh is a good one too. It’s easy to take and is like having hot chocolate with little marshmallows floating around in your nose.

I think you guys might make a lady very happy! So far in my shopping cart I’ve got Toque Violet, Cafe 11, Dholakia Swiss Chocolate and F&T Old Paris. @Ivan - Thank you! Your descriptions are excellent, a very nice reference I will come back to again.

I think other great suggestions would be • Old Mill Butternut Toast • Old Mill Melba Toast • Old Mill Noisette These are all smooth-smooth-smooth and sooo rich and full of flavor and style. I believe that a woman, generally speaking, would really appreciate these. I should have thought of these before. These would be my top suggestions, now that I think about it a bit more–fwiw.

@motobocks: Our historical recipe book (1880) states our Bon Bon as a snuff for ladies. Jaap Bes.

Well, there you are then, if I’ve mentioned it, and then Ivan’s mentioned it, and then Jaap himself has mentioned it, you’d better order some Bon Bon! :)) PS - If a chocolate scent would appeal I’d suggest De Kralingse Chococreme over Dholakia Swiss Chocolate, to my nose it’s much closer to the real thing. Or get both.

Toque Whiskey and Honey, SG Lavender Dark, some of the Stocksnuffs are easy on the nose-- Charlotte, H&L, or Pinya come to mind

@HR_pufnsnuff - OK… I’ll take you up on your advice to get both. Even if she doesn’t go for either, I sure know I will!
