Was in a tobacconist and the guy there said medicated snuff and mentholated snuff is the same thing.

I’m not convinced though.

I’ve had janta naswar English medicated snuff. It claims to have menthol in it but it must be very little because there’s no menthol effect like with S.G. Dr. Verey’s Plus, McChrystal’s standard one, and Poschl Lowen Prise.

Modern / contemporary nomenclature is a bit fluid, and I really do not think the few remaining manufacturers really differentiate products in that way any more, but generally speaking if there is camphor and eucalyptus in addition to menthol, you get the classic medicated scent profile (think McChrystal’s OG, Hedges, and such like). Otherwise, if just menthol, then it’s just a mentholated snuff.

Thank you. Strange though that Janta Naswar medicated isn’t really mentholated.

I would define medicated snuff as any that contains additions of menthol, peppermint, eucalyptus and camphor in various combinations/proportions thereof.
Menthol snuffs are usually sold as menthol but by my definition come under the Medicated umbrella (i.e. to treat something with medicine, colds or easing congestion for example. The hazard is a possible rebound effect resulting in a sore nose if taken too frequently).
