Does Dholakia win?! Okay, I admit; I’m a bit of a snuff noob. I’m american, so my local varities I found on my “tobacconist’s” shelf consisted SOLELY of scotches. Tube Rose, Square, and Honey Bee are faves so far, in descending order. I’ve also tried two poschl’s: ozona orange and gawith apricot. Both were pretty mediocre; and they were my FIRST snuffs. So today, my sample pack from Dholakia arrived. And I can’t believe how wonderful this stuff is! Everything is so potent and flavorful, and most importantly, this stuff doesn’t assail my throat with the usual drain I get from Navy (or any scotch, for that matter). Of the TEN or so samples I got, Swiss chocolate and Sparrow Cool are now two of my fave snuffs…so far. My question (and reason for posting): How similar are Dholakia to the numerous varities of Toque. Generally speaking, I mean, in terms of grind, nicotine, ease of use, flavor). I ask, also, to solicit recommendations based on the snuffs I’ve mentioned that I liked so much. Thanks!
Dholakia are very good but in my experience very simple or one noted (not necessarily a bad thing) i consider the toque line to be more of the fine wine of snuff (but still fun) and I’ve heard the same about F&T. Wilson’s probably wins for sheer number of flavors, and all of the other brands have there pluses and minuses as well. basically you just have to try em all yourself to draw any conclusions.
Man iam sure you can’t go wrong with Toque! they make some of the best snuffs avaiable ! and if you like fine grinds , amazing flavour and good nicotine kick you should try Toast and Marmelade (much easier on the nose than the scotches)! AP
I believe it is just you!
Radar, I’d recommend Toque Chocolate if you liked Dholakia Swiss Chocolate. Its, I think, the easiest Toque to use for a newbie. You can’t go wrong with those, and if you are already handling scotches and Sparrow Cool my hat is off to you. The Toque line has a wide variety of flavors, so get the chocolate and whataver else appeals to your flavor tastes. Other than Chocolate, most are similar to each other in grind and moisture with the exception of Toast & Marmalade and Bourbon (both toasts). I would, when starting out, get at least one or two from each of the big English names (Wilsons of Sharrow, Gawith & Hoggarth, Samuel Gawith, Freybourg & Treyer, Toque) they have the most variety. Place an order with one of our reputable merchants and pick 10-15 different snuffs to start with. Get at least one Shmalzer (from a German company) a Toast, an SP, a middle grind like WoS Apricot (or whatever flavor you like) and something with a heavy grind like F&T Princes Special. I’d recomend at least one menthol (also called medicated) just to see if its your thing. Maybe it is since you like Sparrow Cool. Both the Pöschls you have are mentholated, but English menthols tend not to be as gummy. Once you are comfortable with those you will have a better sense of what you like and we can guide your further exploration. For me, I did a few small orders first, got lots of samples from companies and then kind of found what I like. Reading this forum (and its back posts), snuffreviews.com, and the reviews on the merchants’ sites have guided me in further orders. For American styles, if they are at your tobacconist, keep getting as many as you can there. If you like Honey Bee, I think you will like Tops Sweet. To me both are very similar but I find Tops to have a bit more flavor. If you want strength get Rooster, Levi Garrett, or W.E. Garrett. If you want somthing that is very different from the rest (as far as American styles go) get a Checkerberry and a Maccoboy. Best thing is to keep exploring, asking questions, telling us what you think and having fun with it!
DHOLAKIA Swiss Chocolate is the BEST chocolate flavoured snuff in the world. There is no question about this!!! Even if you let it dry out, the taste remains the same. No other chocolate snuff can be compared with it. Toque chocolate is very nice but it comes second to Dholakia Sparrow Cool… the “coolest” snuff in it’s class. Period Ganga…there is but one rose snuff and it’s called Ganga Manjul…nothing to beat it. Once you have fallen in love with this snuff, it will be for ever. Kamal…show me a nicer snuff in it’s class and I will show you a dollar. Sparrow Green…in it’s class it stands out as the #1 snuff, but only for real tough snuffers. Be careful, it might bite you!! Radar, the abovementioned Dholakia snuffs are unique and should always be in your collection. Nothing can beat it. Cheers Pieter
I really like the Dholakia snuffs I have had. I still haven’t had the Swiss Chocolate, or Sparrow Cool. But the ones I have had, the Rockits, Aniseed Menthol, and some samplers… Rum & Raison, Port Wine & Cheese, Vanilla Coconut, and another I can’t recall, are all very good. I just ordered a few of the new Wow, Blast, and Temptation ones. Oh, and a Fubar Medic. They haven’t arrived yet. But after fruity menthols, I find I like the food/spice flavors, and Dholakia seems to specialize in this. I also like their full bodied grind, and warmness of their base tobacco. I was impressed with their Rockit Naked, anyone else tried this? I seem to detect some slight moca-ness, or maybe it’s just me. Tom502
Is Rum Special (as advertised on Nicotine Rush) the same as the Rum & Raisin that has been sent out as samples?
I don’t know. Tom502
Stitch, it’s realy going well. The wound has healed completely on the outside. So I’m sure inside everything is OK as well. I will start riding my bikes again as from the 20th of April, only 17 more days. Can’t wait!!
toffee, I think the name was changed to rum special but Namrata will have to confirm.
yes it is the same.
Glad to hear things are going well Pieter, not that long since I was in similar straights so I know how you feel. At least your nose has not been effected! Best wishes mate Nigel
The swiss chocolate is fantastic , an instant win with even with my non-snuffing friends and the scent seems to last forever! It’s a treat indeed! I’m still very careful with the sparrow cool though, it’s strong stuff! .I’ll even use it as a weapon to blow off people’s heads when they piss me off =). Also good luck Pieter! Hope you get back in shape asap. I know i felt like a sh*t when i broke my leg and it was almost 6 months until i could walk on my own again without crutches.
