I am sri lankan. I tried to contact sri lanka customs & import and export control department but i couldn’t contact them. Is it illegal ?
@Nilan, any good Indian snuffs available locally?
@JakartaBoy only s.v.s available.sri vijayalakshmi snuff
Thank you all of you. I got all information from custom. It is legal to import tobacco snuff for personal use. But very high taxes should be pay.
@ Nilan, welcome to snuffhouse!
Welcome to Snuffhouse, @Nilan. Sri Lanka is a fantastic place. I spent a few months there in 1979 and stayed on a clove plantation up in the hills for a couple of weeks. I greatly enjoyed places such as Galle, Colombo, Hikkadua and many other places. The richest tasting fruits I have ever tasted grow there. The mangosteens, mangos, papaya, jak fruit, rambutan, durian, avocados and king coconuts are fantastic, as are so many other fruits. And then there is the seafood, and the opportunity to study Theravada Buddhism. Incredible. Many times I have wished I could visit there again. I hope to get there again before I die. I still have cravings for mangosteen, which are unavailable in the USA, and I wish there was such a thing as a mangosteen snuff. Are you listening @Roderick?
@fredh, come to Indonesia! I saw all of those fruit in the market this morning, except durian, which are out of season.
Thanks for the invitation @JakartaBoy. I would love to go back to Indonesia before I die as well. Many years ago, I hung out in Java (Jakarta, Jogjakarta, Surabaya), Bali (Ubud and the north shore), and Sumatra (Lake Toba/Samosir Island). But there is so much more there to see (Irian Jaya, and Sulawesi for example). The fruits are great there as well. You are right. Have you been to Sri Lanka? To me, there is something special about that place. If I ever find myself heading off to SE Asia again, would you mind if I looked you up in Jakarta to share a few sniffs?

Sri Lanka is definitely on my list, but I’ve never been there. You would be very welcome to drop by if you are ever passing through Jakarta. In fact, I think I could probably extend that invitation to any active member of Snuffhouse, without fear that I’ll be facing a deluge. By the way, I just went back to Toba a few months ago, my first visit since 1986! And it’s barely changed at all! I’m afraid I couldn’t say the same for Ubud, which is beginning to look like some sort of retirement village zone in Costa Rica or Miami Keys or the South of Spain. Tragic when I remember what it used to be like.

LOL. Yes @JakartaBoy, it is unlikely that you will have dozens of people converging on you! But I hope I can find the time to get back there some day. I visited Toba in 1979 and celebrated New Year’s 1980 there on Samosir. It was a very special time for me. I am very, very happy to hear that it has barely changed, and very sad to hear about Ubud. Thanks for the info. Much appreciated. Meanwhile, I continue to wish that @Roderick would make a mangosteen snuff!

Thank you and saepa sanīpa kohomada @Nilan. I have found that Theravada Buddhism is full of wisdom and practical application. I would like to say more but Snuffhouse frowns upon discussion of religious topics, even though Buddhism (especially Theravada Buddhism) is not religious in the sense commonly found in the western world. It is more of a philosophy. I will end the talk of religion now. I respectfully disagree with the idea expressed by n9inchnails that “everywhere else in the world” people who are not politicians have no freedom. My experience in this area of life is totally different. I have been to countries where the governmental oppression is crushing, overwhelming, debilitating, and exhausting to the people. People who live in Europe or America cannot, usually, imagine what it is like in some parts of the world in terms of being deprived of freedom and basic human rights unless one has traveled to such places and lived with the people and seen for oneself. But once again, Snuffhouse discourages political talk as well so I am going to shut up about this right now. I will come again to Sri Lanka @Nilan, as soon as I can. I remember well the great food and the wonderful people, the great beaches, and the tremendous beauty of your country. And did I mention the great food and fruits?
