I just got a 12.5 g tin (plastic container) of Molens A/P Snuff. When the container arrived it was a good bit less than half full. I don’t have a scale to weigh it but it looks and feels much less than the 10 gram tins of Wilson’s. Have I been ripped or is this usual for Molens?
Jaap uses the same containers for the 12.5 AND the 25g snuffs.
My A/P is less full than my Macuba, and they are both 12.5 grams. Both fill about alf the snuff container, as Tom says, they use the same ones for both sizes. How do you like the A/P? For some reason my uncultured nose thinks it smells like lakewater. Dirty lakewater. I LOVE the Macuba though!! Macuba was the snuff that made me realize this is a lifelong hobby. So… is it Molens, or what is their name? There seems to be a variance online of what this brand is named.
Yeah 25 gr and 12.5 grs containers are the same so if you bought 12.r gr your container will be half full
Half full but fully delicious!
They are filled by weight, not volume. Some of my 12.5g snuffs are filled to different levels depending on their moisture. So… not a rip.
Thanks for the help everyone. That’s what I figured but it was still a shock to see a half empty container. As far as the AP goes, I like it but it’s not a favorite. I can tell it is quality snuff but as of now I do not expect it to be a must have for me. Overall, I am finding myself drawn less and less to the perfumed blends and more and more to the toasts. Mind you I am still quite new at this. As it stands now Toque Whiskey and Honey is my standard and Wilson’s Lemon Grove is my second. Next, throw in an American Scotch or two and F&T HDT and I’m good to go. That said, I’m still exploring. In fact, right now I’m waiting for an order from Toque: Spanish Gem and Original.
Molens de Kralingse is the full proper name. “Molens” simply being Dutch for “mills” and when you think of Dutch mills you think of Windmills. So on some English language sites they are listed as “Dutch Windmill.” Jaap wrote a post about it here once. The only confusing thing is if you are comparing one person’s list to another. Alphabetical lists either have it starting with De, Du, K, or M! Even the German sites spell it in German. Oh, I love the A/P (spruce and pine)! Its like going on a camping trip right here at my desk! Its a tricky one though, since its so course and moist.
It seems that snuffs are packed by container size, or are they actually weighed? I wonder if some snuffs weigh differently than others. Some seem heavier than others to me.
I think that depends on the company. There was a discussion about the same thing with F&T snuffs.
Love the AP, it is seasonal for me though, I tend to enjoy it a whole lot more in the late fall and winter months.
By the way, the Hollandse Bolongaro has been ordered. Just waiting on Jaap to ship.
That is great news! Been wanting to try that one for awhile now. Looking forward to it.
Hi Good morning Roderick. I’ve always had the feeling that Wilsons of Sharrow do just that too. Then snuffers complain about their tins because they spill a little free snuff!
That might be true, but I’ve also never had a toque tin spill on me , and I’ve always bought mine direct from Roderick, fresh as fresh can be.
Yes but this has been mentioned on SnuffHouse before. The Toque Top is flat so no snuff can over spill. Look at the Willsons tins, the top has a raised lip that alows snuff to sit higher then the rim of the tin.
Hello everyone, Indeed we weigh the amount of snuff. The difference in contents of the containers lies in the plane fact the the Latakia types are fermented and therefore more humid then the Virginia types. The containers we use will not hold 25 grams of the virginia type. According to the Dutch customs and taxregulations we can only sell in either 25 grams or 12,5 grams units, or a multiple of that. Because some of our retailers prefer to sell the Latakia types in 12,5 grams the containers will be about half full. The preference of retailers for using their own names for our products lead to different names: Dutch Windmill, Molens, Zweimühlen or a part of the name of our foundation which is: Stg. de Kralingse Snuif en Specerijen Compagnie. I hope this answer som of the questions raised. Jaap Bes.
Sorry you had to go on the defense about this, Jaap. Stg. de Kralingse Snuif en Specerijen Compagnie is a stand up company.
Indeed. It’s also the only company that I’ve tried that has 25g tap-out cans which is a BIG plus in my book
Who makes a natural plain tobacco snuff in a tap-out can?
