Is Hedges still made in the U.K.?

I had heard one of those ‘fun’ internet rumours that production was moved to the EEC, like Rizla papers. Any truth to this?

What’s EEC? It should state the origin on the tin.

Isn’t Hedges Imperial like J&H Wilsons? I think Golden Virginia is made in the UK so I suppose they have a factory here.

They have 2 factories in the UK. One in Bristol and one in Nottingham (that’s where I want my snuff from!). And I believe that they are Imperial. Good luck finding any info on their site!

The European Economic Community. Much of the time, products made anywhere in the European Union are simply labeled that way without the country of origin being listed. The rumour I had heard is that production was moved to Germany for the most part, but given the dubious nature of stuff you read on the web at times, you never know until you ask. The address of J&H Wilson’s has changed from Sheffield to Liverpool. I’m guessing that it’s due to the popularity of their products in the Northwest. (I’m getting the mental picture of a Mule train with milling equipment tied to their backs as they cross over the Penines. Lol!

From the Imperial website:_ The Liverpool factory predominantly packs Golden Virginia fine cut tobacco but also produces a small amount of pipe and snuff tobacco. The Golden Virginia packing operations will be transferred to the Group’s factories in Nottingham and Mullingar, Ireland. Contract manufacturing arrangements for the production of pipe and snuff tobacco are currently being finalised. _So Imperial doesn’t even make the snuff anymore? I wonder who makes it for them?

I know the secret…what’s it worth? LOL…clue…it is still made in the UK; England to be precise…

Ahh! It hasn’t drifted off like H.P. Sauce.

Then grind and style of the tobacco base reminds me of either Wilsons or McChrystals. I bet it’s one of those.

Wilson’s most likely makes it. I wonder if they also make the JH Wilson’s.

Well…I spoke too soon…it is not made in England after all. So it is now open for the sleuths to track down. Darn it…I really thought I had this one nailed!

Well I always thought it was made by Poschl until Mr Snuff said it was made in England. So perhaps I was right first time.

Imperial has factories in places like Congo so who knows where it’s made.

Any snuff produced in the rest of the UK? Never heard of that, at least, of course, not these days anymore.

_ Any snuff produced in the rest of the UK? Toque, Wilson’s, Samuel Gawith, Kendal, Dean Swift, McChrystal’s, Jaxon’s and Bespoke. Never heard of that, at least, of course, not these days anymore. _ No idea what you mean with this.

Wilson’s apparently makes Dean Swift as well and of course F&T, Tranter’s, etc. ITL’s, goodness knows, although the J&H Wilson Snuffs show every sign of still being made in the U.K., the Lpool address and HDT-like characteristics of the base Tobacco’s leading to that conclusion. I Think Red Star was speaking of Scotland, Wales and Ulster, when he mentioned ‘rest of the UK’. Toque is made a couple miles from the border.

“I Think Red Star was speaking of Scotland, Wales and Ulster, when he mentioned ‘rest of the UK’.” Indeed. The rest of the UK besides England.

Back to topic - is it? and who makes it? Someone must know!

I’ve searched before on the Hedges issue and not got anywhere. The old tins - when Hedges was an independent company up until about 20 years ago - bore the legend ‘made in Birmingham’ (that was UK of course not the US). No idea if that factory still exists. I’ver also heard various things about Rizzla, Swedish Match etc. Someone said Jaxons was made in the UK. By who? I assumed it was part of the Dholakia bunch of trade names.

Jaxon’s isn’t made by Dholakia.
