Irish High Toast vs. Irish DH Toast

Well, I’m making my way down to the end of my snuff stash so it’s almost time to place another order. While looking through the WoS snuffs on my favorite site mrsnuff.com (do shameless plugs get customers a discount ;)) I came across Irish DH Toast. Irish High Toast is prolly my favorite snuff right now and I was wondering how the Irish DH Toast compared. Lend me your wisdom, oh great snuffers.

DH toast (#20) is a toasted SP. A lot of folks like it -even love it, but its not very toasty. Its worth having on hand IMO, just don’t expect anything like #22! Compare IHT 22 to Samuel Gawith Irish D light, or F&T HDT, or Toque Natural Toast. Gawith Hoggarth have one too, but I haven’t tried it.

The Irish DH Toast #20 is completely unlike the HDT #22. Everybody knows about the latter, but the #20 is a medium brown colored, but medium full bodied and fruity, very lightly toasted SP with a strong citron scent, and a lingering citrusy character. It would be hard for me to indentify it as a toast if I was tasting it blind, but it wouldn’t be hard for me to rank it somewhat above the Best SP, the Tom Buck and the SS SP, all of which are great variants of SP’s in their own right. The #20 has a slightly moister grind, that makes it easier to take than the Best, a comparable, very pleasent burn, a deeper, rounder more complex character, and great comination of citrus and lightly toasted tobacco in the lingering finish. It also seems to have a cleaner but less astringent character than the Best SP, and even than the Tom Buck. It’s a little lighter, less earthy and less spicy than the Tom Buck, but it has recently risen to the top of my list of very favorite WoS varieties, as is the HDT #22. But they are very dissimilar. It’s much more comparable to the other SP’s in Wilson’s line than to the #22 HDT, and seems to me to occupy a perfect middle ground between the very light Best SP and the darker, rather heavier Tom Buck. Of the Wilsons SP’s that I’ve tried, I would rank them as follows: 1) #20 Irish DHT 2) Tom Buck 3) Best SP 4) SS SP

A very well presented answer LHB, well done indeed. I enjoyed it and also concur with the list and rank.

bookmarked for the information so when I get ready to try to make an order of this sort I can find this information again. Very helpful/useful, thank you.

Thanks for the info guys. I think I’ll order some but I’ll definitely purchase some Irish High toast along with it.
