Irish D Light is a light, biscuit coloured, finely milled, toasted snuff with a medium to high nicotine content. It has no obviously added flavouring agent. IDL could be described as an archetypal Irish snuff with the toasted tobacco taste that is the defining characteristic of it’s type. When pinched the snuff gives a smoky, almost wood-fire like taste with earthy bass notes and the merest hint of ammonia when used absolutely fresh. Being fine and dry it is one of the few types of snuff that actually suits being used in a snuff bullet as this type of dryish snuff is not prone to clumping. The snuff is quite penetrating and produces a fairly high burn, so unseasoned users should use carefully. I usually suggest that new snuffers take large pinches because they burn less, but with a snuff like this some caution is required: start small and build up. Overall: a classic Irish toast from a mill of vast pedigree - it should be in the rotation of any user who likes this type.
The grind isn’t as fine as my American Scotch, the taste is lovely, and so smooth and consistent throughout. It’s rich in flavor. I like to pinch this one.
