I don’t thikn anyone has talked about anything like this before, at least not to my knowledge. I have searched around for info on the matter but, I can’t find anyone else with a similar experience to me. Anyways, I am/was addicted to prescription opiates and heroin. My usual method of ingestion was insufflation, or snuffing it I guess! I mostly preferred OxyContins, or white powdered heroin, because I didnt like needles. When I finally decided to give it up, (it was a long and expensive 3 years) I went smoothly for a month, but I could never completely quit. THe longest I had made it before snuff was in 1 month intervals. When I did get high again, I would only do so for a day or two. I am prescribed to suboxone look it up if you want, it stops withdrawals but it doesn’t really satisfy or get me high. Now, the interesting part! Since I have started snuffing, about 2-3 months, I have been 100% clean and I don’t really have the desire to get high anymore. I guess you could say I like to put stuff in my nose lol! I still find myself falling back into the same routine, but substituting snuff with heroin or oxy. I always grab my can right when I wake up and am still in bed, then I do more before the shower. Everytime I would have done heroin or oxy I use snuff. I just thought I would throw this out there. I know some people might not feel comfortable giving out this much info about themselves, but if there is someone with a similar experience you aren’t alone! -Mrmaroon
I spent many years addicted to both pharmaceutical Opiates and Caspirodal/Soma, for a lower back injury. Obviously nicotine does nothing for the pain, but the brain is a strange thing. Since we have so few internal chemicals or hormones to release pleasure or pain relief, Snuff or smoking can satisfy cravings for other chemicals triggered off by those. My best to you in conquering those urges. It seems like anything that will set off a flow of dopamine seems to do the trick and Snuff does well. Anything is better than Opiates in that regard. They tend to lose their effective powers in a relatively short time.
Does not affect me, BUT: I think this is great news. It could maybe help a lot of people and they need it. You should get the word out somehow.
I’ve seem a few junkies smoking their asses off on cigarettes when they couldn’t score. (long story I once lived in an nice townhome that magicaly turned into shotting gallery). Seemed to do something to keep them from being quite as whiney.
I’m kind of worried about the opposite effect. My dad was a big time cocaine user for many years and, later spent plenty of time with crystal meth. Basically, he’s battled all of his life with drugs, but to my knowledge, he has been clean about 5 years now. He still smokes though, and had to have a stint put in a few years ago. Despite the medical warnings, he just can’t stay off 'em. I would like to try and get him to use snuff to get off the cigs, but I am afraid that snorting something up his nose would trigger those old memories and cause him to relapse back to the drugs.
I was always worried about triggering those kind of memories for my wife who used to snort crank, but it doesn’t seem to bother her at all, though everyone is different. I also do suspect that’s one reason she won’t try snuff, too, and I don’t push her. Mrmaroon, keep up the great work!
mrmaroon, I’m a recovering alcoholic and member of Alcoholics Anonymous for the past 15+ years. I’ve seen a lot of tragedy and pain over that period. So what you’ve just told us, made me jump with joy! I cannot talk about drugs as I’ve never been addicted to it except for cigarettes but I know that’s it’s much harder to give up than alcohol. I’ve spoken to members of Narcotics Anonymous and that’s why I know. So all I can say is, keep it up. You know you will eventually be destroyed by that stuff same as I would have been killed by alcohol. As for quiting cigarettes, I’ve used Smokenders. Their program is easy and amazing. I can honestly recommend them. I’ve been off the cigs now for 2 years 7 months and I never crave a cigarette. My son stopped cold turkey 6 months after me and he’s still craving.
Congratulations mrmaroon!!! Keep it up!!! I spent 4 years with the meth monster, then to energy pills, then to the energy drinks, then to cigarettes, and now snuff. i realize nicotine is the dying vestige of my addiction to meth, but its better by far. I haven’t touched the stuff in 8 years now, and will never again. I think that dopamine kick can get you enough of what you need to succeed. Thank god for snuff!!!
People dont realize how strong of a phycoactive tobbaco really is. It puts u in the now so completely and discretly that we don’t realize it, we just know we want more. Somepeople can’t work or function with out setting time aside during the day to have a smoke or a fix . They say nicotine stimulates using the same pathway as opiates in the brain and is probably why it is so addictive. The native Americans used tobbaco as there cerimonial drug of choice and so do alot of shamans, they say it has visionary properties.whatever it does I do recognize the power it has to help with controling addiction in a moderatly safe way( atleast snuff and snus). To me snuffing has had a huge effect on curbing my appitite from worse substances and has been one of the greatest joys in my life now a days.
