I know one of the house members can answer this. Should I purchase insurance or add it to an existing policy to protect my tobacco horde along with all the accessories. I mean most will go up in smoke or up my nose any way intentionally. But if some peril happened to my precious collection and cellar-ed products ,Its a loss of a good hunk of change: not to mention that aged tobacco triple even quadruple according to the blend. Plus all the collectibles ,antique ,snuff paraphernalia and pipes.

I just wanted to run this by the membership here. Because we are all together on this journey.

I don’t think you can actually insure the tobacco itself. I actually recall some sort of news article a few years ago where a guy did that, smoked it, then tried to collect on it as fire damage. However I would most definitely insure your pipes and such.

I’m sure that Lloyd’s would offer a policy.

Insure pipes and accessories separately and claim the tobacco as fridge-freezer contents most insurance company’s here in the UK will pay out £500 for that.

This is a subject I have never thought about.  Most of us have a fair amount of $$$$ invested.  According to many forums its value increases with age if taken care of. (At least that is what the vendors want us to believe). I don’t think it would be too much of a stretch to say that $500 could even be a low mark for many.

So how about a fire proof safe.  You know, like big ones they sell for hunters to store their rifles in.  Heck, I could almost climb in there.  Imagine would even be pretty air tight.  Course, I would probably forget the combination and go into some type of TAD withdrawal fit or something.

I did tryt one time to get my pipes insured.  The company was very uptight and VERY expensive.

It would be covered under your contents coverage for the named perils in the policy.

With our company there would be no limit other than your contents coverage limits. The hardest part would be knowing how much unused snuff you had. The pipe tobacco would most likely be settled at current market cost for new pipe tobacco by the same manufacturer. If the secondary market for aged tobacco is well documented enough you may be able to prove an increase in value. Hopefully it never happens to you.

For most things that would happen you could easily document the amount of snuff, pipe tobacco and accessories you had. Even in a total loss fire most of your contents are identifiable. There are rare cases where this is not so. A house that actually burns completely to the ground.

Keep in mind…insurance adjustors are a lot like cops. What I mean by that is they have heard every lie and seem most scams out there. We often deal with the same people. The cops have the advantage of having guns and tasers…

I expect everyone here would be honest in any financial dealings, after all…it is the best policy.
