This is a website set up by a friend of mine from the Indonesian Pipe and Tobacco Club. He’s a third generation tobacconist, operating from a small shop in a minor town in Central Java. He’s the first of his family to move from cigarette tobacco and cigars to pipe tobacco, and he’s done quite well by networking through the club and selling online, considering that it’s very hard to find retailers who sell imported brands. Quite a small operation, still. I’ve tried a few of them, and some of them are very good. I don’t think he’s set up for international sales, so I’m not recommending that anyone purchase through this site. Still, just thought a few of the pipe smokers might be interested to see some obscure SEAsian brands. https://www.facebook.com/rnr.pipetobacco

the pipe world would be richer if more locally produced tobaccos were available out of country. I’d love to be able to buy these blends and some others like semois from Belgium.

I wrote to smokingpipes to see if they could get some. They’re going to try, but I’m not going to hold my breath: “I do not know if we are able to get that or any tobaccos like it in. I will ask our Purchasing Manager and if we can we will bring some in and post it on the website. Let us know if you have any other questions. Phillip McDaniels in Customer Service ext.127”

@Mouse‌, you can get Tambolaka from some US online retailers, including 4noggins, I think. That’s an interesting one, very strong, unique flavor, a tobacco that doesn’t fall into any obvious category. Quite a few of the Indonesian tobaccos are like that, odd varieties and sub-varieties, and cured in all sorts of unusual ways. I did a bit of a farm-door shopping mission in the island of Lombok, just east of Bali, a couple of months ago. Got a pound of a very nice golden colored tobacco that is fantastic for ryos. Been meaning to try to make some snuff with it in my ball mill. I’ll see if I can dig up some images, it was a fun trip on a motorbike up the foothills of a big volcano.

Tambo is great! I’d love to get some more–the sample I had is long gone.

M

I had some Tambolaka but it was just too strong for me; I gave it away.

@Mouse, Patrick, the guy doing the tobacco I linked to, would agree with you. He uses a bit of Tambolaka as a spice tobacco in some of his blends. Hethinks smoking it straight is crazy

@mecompco you can get Tambo here http://www.4noggins.com/Tamboaka.aspx

Thanks! I have not tried the ready rubbed, the sample I had was the rope. 4noggins is great. BTW, if you order from them, there is a 10% discount available.
