So my next order I think I want to try an Indian Snuff offering. What would be a good place to begin with Indian brands? Ken
Six photo and dholakia are favourites. 6 photo Kailash is a staple in snuff taking. And #66 medicated I have recently fallen in love with. Nice menthol and nicotine. Some of the dholakias are very fine and can be off putting to a new user. Swiss chocolate is good, as well as kamal and Ganga have a special place on my shelf. Try some sparrow and sparrow cool, once you get used to them you’ll be glad you have them. They regularly are in my rotation.
I go thru some 6 photo special. Best with a spoon, very dark and messy to pinch,Anarkali, Motia and Kailash fall into this same category. I suggest the 25 gram bundle, The cheeta is the whitest and is a challenge the super chetak is #2 ,natural is also light but not as challenging. 6P medicated is just that 6,66 and 666 strong in the menthol vapors for clearing action, they just came out with COFFEE KICK. and I asked CS @MrSnuff to get some in. As for Dholakia they make QWS ,Fubar, She,Temptation, Wow, Blast, Taj, and their regular line. I suggest QWS to start out with. D White is the most challenging then sparrow and sparrow cool, ganga. and the toasts. The rest of the line is not as challenging. Enjoy the journey
I think I feel more confused now… hehehehe
If you get on with scotches most Indian snuffs should be no problem. if your going for high nicotine hit- 41 photo White elephant ,Dholakia White and 6 photo cheeta. What are your preferences ? 6 Photo is all Exotic India .
Well let’s see, I tend to like SP’s, some menthol, but light, like Crumbs of Comfort light menthol. Scotches and toasts are good as well. What I tend to not like is typically florals. Ken
That bundle seems like a good deal to start with. Ken
I am very fond of Six Photo Anarkali, it is menthol-rose-floral and very refreshing to me.
If you like lightly mentholated snuffs and toasts and scotches you may like Sparrow Cool. It’s very fine, the menthol is very light and it has a good nicotine level too.
I agree with the 6 Photo bundle, but also with the Jewels of the East as well.
Sparrow cool seems interesting to me.
do not know if it is available, but highly scented (Jasmine?) Swami is great and good to blend with. The most highly scented I have tried in my young snuff career. Of course one never knows if the scent is favorable or not… :(|)
As bundles go I think I like the Jewels of india better… at least on the surface… Ken
KAILASH IS A MUST!
NIИ… you are so messing up my bundling with stuff like that… Ken
Just buy all the Indian snuff you can. You will use it up eventually Edit; Can = afford .
Whilst I cannot deny that logic… I am also a cheapskate… I mean that is part of the snuff appeal to me… Ken
Got the 6 photo sampler, more COC and added WOS Honey Menthol to try. I did slightly chicken out and only got the 8g 6 photo sampler. Ken
My order from Snuffstore arrived today, 45g Kailash, 35g Natural, 25g Special and 6g Super Kailash. Only ever had Anarkali before and that didnt agree with me, but these are amazing! So glad I bought the 45g of Kailash, absolutely amazing snuff. Can see it being an all day-er.
So my sampler arrived. Tried them all. I got the 6p 8g sampler. Not noticing big differences between the 4 little containers of snuff. And hard to discern which is which. So some observations: 1. Indian snuffs offer very unique flavor combinations, this is good, I like how the medicated portion of it is light hint that balances well. 2. The containers plain suck. And I mean really suck. 3. The throat drip is harsher than expected should it occur. 4. I find them messier than expected. Overall these are good. Based on this though I think the next Indian snuff I will try will probably be Sparrow Cool. Ken
Oh and the tobacco kills picture on these containers. What the hell is that? Is it a mouth? Are these used orally in India? Ken
Using 6 Photo Special as my all day and I must admit I am quickly becoming a fan of indian snuffs. The balance of the scents and cooling (menthol or what not) is just perfect in my book. Like why I like WOS COC so much. Just that right balance between the tobacco base, the scenting/spices, and the menthol. Special is a bit messy, black and a touch moist. But the grind is very easy and enjoyable. One thing I am noticing about this compared to others I have tried is how well the scent stays with you, including the menthol portion while not being clogging in any way. Just overall such a well balanced snuff experience. Can’t wait till next month when I put in for an order of Sparrow Cool to expand on the Indian Snuff experience. Ken
@devilock76 Did you get Anarkali in that sampler? I tried my first sniff of that stuff on Monday or Tuesday and I’m halfway through my tiny little 8g container. I want this stuff in large portions! Once I start it’s hard to stop. You’re right about the scent staying with you for a long while. The scent of Anarkali lingers for a good while and makes me smile…It’s a terrible mess though. Black all over the place.
6 Photo Kailash has become my all day, every day snuff from the moment it arrived. Absolutely fantastic. I use my silver box to avoid staining etc and it’s perfect. I agree with @ChipSnuff though, very messy, I now use the tip of one finger instead of pinching.
Yes anarkali came with it. I find all but the super Kailash very similar. I might have to try the finger tip method. The associated messiness of these darker/black snuffs leads me to think snuff spoons or bullets would be the “cleanest” way to enjoy them. I will say this I had a pinch of the special, and then before leaving blew my nose before hopping on the motorcycle to head to work. Wouldn’t want a snuff laden sneeze to occur within my helmet. Anyway the smell stayed with me enough to mask some of the less pleasant scents that I come across on my work commute. Ken

Unless they changed it, on ones I got some time ago it was a scorpion, generally regarded as deadly among illiterate in India (think skull and crossbones here). And yes they do get used orally there.
I always use a snuff spoon for the dark messy snuffs, this is the best snuff spoon I have ever used https://mistersnuff.com/catalog/stainless-steel-snuff-spoon-p-1538.html?osCsid=4f3d0d3074470d210249186c32a8ccf7
Interesting, orally like similar to say American dip, in the lower lip and spitting? I can’t tell what that graphic is on mine, it is like a big red blotch and some row of white stones in it… For a “spoon” I typically use a pipe tool or a pocket knife blade. The latter obviously not helping the public image of snuff use… Ken
Not sure, I know they practice gum rubbing at least.

@devilock76 that is a picture of someone pulling back their lower lip and showing the damage on the inside of the lip and gums. The stones are teeth.
Well unfortunately the picture looks like someone took the shot in a tub of sriracha…
Sparrow is quite fine ,takes some getting use-to. if you can do scotches and toasts then the sparrows shouldn’t present any challenge.I don’t leave home without 6P special,#66 and sparrow cool is in my rotation this month and White Elephant. Although I may put the W.E. aside and do the Dholakia White instead.

Yeah most people use it as a dentrifice, i.e. they dip their toothbrushes in it and use it to brush their teeth. But some do sniff it, and some dip it.

Sacrilege! [-X Actually, Since I got my new order last Monday I’ve done exactly that. My poor W.E. Garrett tin has been lonely and the White Elephant and Dholakia Sparrow have been getting all the morning fun. But come afternoon and the Anarkali comes out it’s over. I can’t stop myself from taking heaps of that stuff for rest of the afternoon.
Hello all…I am the manufacturer of white elephant and i am here to answer all your doubts regarding white elephant…so please write your reviews…
I didn’t see it covered here already and I’ve been very curious. This may be a stupid question, but where do the “Photo” snuffs get there name. I saw 7 Photo has seven photos in their logo, but I assumed the logo was made after the name. Anyone have any insight or is it really THAT simple? i.e. 7 photo means seven actual photos- 6 Photo means six photos.
^ many of their customers are illiterate and identify the the different brands by the number of photos.
ok, so it really was that simple, lol. That’s good news though as I’m illiterate when it comes to Hindi, Bengali, etc., as well.
I wonder if Ganesha is the God of snuff too in India - I mean with that huge trunk He can easily empty a Big bucket of say 6 Photo Motia like nothing, ha ha!! =)) What do You say @sixphoto? Kind Regards Nuuska
Personally I really like Dholakia White and FUBAR products in terms of Indian snuffs. I really wish I had more experience with snuffs from this country. I would really like to try 6 photos and expand upon my experience in the Dholakia line. Judging from experiencing with Indian snuff and what I have heard from other snuff users is generally positive. However, in my opinion I believe you should avoid Dholakia African, but other than that I would say dive right in.

You’re silly, lol. I think you’ll have to take that up with Sri Ganesha as 6 Photo has no authority over the deities, lol. I’d think Sri Ganesha would be more interested in Dholakia Swiss Chocolate. Maybe they could start a campaign with Sri Ganesha holding a snuff spoon instead of his tusk. I did get my first order of Kailash today. I was shocked at the size of the 8gram tin. Are they really supposed to be the size of large thimbles? I’ll definitely need a spoon for this snuff because I can barely fit one finger inside. It’s all good though because I’m ordering a much larger can right now.
@Nuuska & @Nietzsche_Keen If lord Ganesha takes to sniffing Motia,my sales would jump ten times ! A curious thing happened in the nineties when it was rumored that the idols Lord Ganesha drink milk. The entire country went mad, queuing up for hours offering milk to Ganesha idols. Tons of milk went down the drains. This madness lasted for weeks.!
@sixphoto Ah yes! I read an article or book chapter on Lord Ganesha drinking the milk a while back, but had completely forgotten about it. A fascinating occurrence! If Ganesha did take to snuff, as much as he likes sweets, there would be none left for us! :-S

I remember that very well. I’d forgotten about it until you reminded me of it.
Well @sixphoto…we only have to spread rumours of Lord Ganesha snuffing Motia, he he!! <:-P
I always use Snuff, Snus and homemade Chew to nurish my Guardian Spirits because Tobacco is like nectar for Them and gives Them strenght and power to help me see, feel and understand certain Things…
I don’t know about Ganesh but I have gone through a ton of 6 Photo making offerings to Kali…
