I recently ordered from the honorable @MrSnuff a “bundle” of McChrystal snuffs. I will now relate my buyers impressions, as well as pose a few questions for others who may have made this purchase in the past. First off, the bundle comes in a cute little cardboard that is obviously a counter top display, possessing a die cut lid should one want to display it. In it were 12 small tins, 3.5 cm across and 2 cm tall at the dome of the lids. They were each wrapped in plastic, and upon opening display dating on the bottom to indicate they were made in 7/14, so they are fresh as I could expect. Now, there were 12 tins as I said, but only 9 varieties They were: Anisette ( x2 ) Raspberry ( x2) Apricot ( x2) Violet Supermint Mild Lemon Highland Ice Clove English menthol So far i have sampled the Anisette, Raspberry, Apricot and Clove. I find them all to be very enjoyable, and have no doubt the others will be as well. All in all, after my initial impressions, i would rate this little bundle and purchase as a 4 of 5 stars - the loss of the star being attributed to the repetitive offering of 3 scents. So here is my question for those who may have ordered this before, or maybe MrSnuff will know - is this assortment always these scents, or it is a random collection based on productions? In other words, if I reordered it would I have the likelihood of getting the exact same 12 tins of 9 scents, or when you ordered was your different? I’m enough of a gambling guy to reorder - I find the tins awesomely perfect for my office, but do not need 4 tins of Anisette ( heck - I think 1 might last me a lifetime … )
Off-topic but give the Mild Lemon a try. I’m not sure as to if the bundle is always the same or not though.
@The_HP to be honest I don’t know if it is repeated. I know that Wilson’s assorted are completely random, but then their range is about 10 times larger so it makes more sense. I know some flavors don’t come in small tins, such as Hops. It might be easier to order the missing tins separately.
I got a Wilson’s bundle in the same order - i have not gotten too deep in them yet - but knowing that the assortment is random makes me think i will be tossing one on on each future order just for snits and giggles …
SO I just did a cheating little “copy / paste” to review this bundle on MrSnuff.com and out of curiosity I opened up each available scent - and guess what - only these 9 listed are avail in the 3.5 g sized tins ( as Mr Snuff himself kinda alluded to ) . SO - I guess I will not reorder - because while I do like most of them so far, the risk / reward of the same duplicates makes me not want to do so - I would just as rather order 9 tins ( 9 x 1.59 = 14.31 ) than pay the $19.95 for the bundle - not to disparage the snuff - quite the opposite - but I kinda of feel if they offer a multi box, they should tin some of their other offering to make a true 12 scent assortment if selling a 12 tin bundle.
My experience is that whilst ordering a random “gift pack” - which is what you’ve done - there are always duplicates. I’ve used these in the past as a way of getting used to a manufacturer’s snuffs and it’s always the case. Bear in mind too that the McC packs are of their mini-tins, and some of their snuffs - for example S’Nuff, SP & Jip - aren’t sold in the 3.5-gram tin format, so they won’t appear in the gift pack. Unless it’s impossible to do so because you’re in the States, you could always just order direct from McChrystal’s - service is good and their snuffs are great, just bear in mind that their range is limited compared to some other companies’.
Mine was ordered from the factory (and freshly milled!) and devoid of Mild Lemon and Violet, featuring more duplicates. I felt quite disappointed about that, but the cardboard box and sheer freshness delighted me to no end, so I felt quite fine in the end.
