I received my first order from @Roderick this week. I had previously tried Spanish Gem and was impressed enough (bolstered by reviews of other flavors here) that I jumped in with both nostrils, ordering 16 new flavors and another ounce of Spanish Gem. It took a week to get to mid-USA. I emailed Toque and Roderick answered my question within hours. I’ve hit about eight of the ones new to me and there isn’t a dog in the bunch. These snuffs are genius and it was a pleasure giving my custom to this business. I’ll be a repeat customer.
Hope you picked some of my favorite ones as they are the ones I would get again. Toast and marmalade, Chocolate, Whiskey and Honey (USA). @ don’t forget the cheese and bacon.
Toast and Marmalade is pretty awesome, but I passed on Cheese and Bacon…this time. I got the regular W&H, which is chocolate to my nose. It’s one of two I’m not sure about. I like it a lot, just not sure if it’s really W&H. The other is Coltsfoot. I get a lot of anise or fennel, which is a scent that’s not a personal favorite. Each of the other toast types has knocked my socks off. The SPs are going to give WoS a run for their money in my nose, also. I’ll continue to take Spanish Gem daily as long as I can get my hands on it.
Toque is awesome. Their base flour is very easy on my nose and their scents are quite good with a broad spectrum of flavors. You’d be hard pressed not to find something to love from their menu.
Another fan of Toque here, Shipping is lightning fast… Always fresh and great prices!
Yes Toque is awesome. Also Roderick uses natural scenting. The fruit snuffs are crazy good.
I’m sorry, but I don’t get it! I don’t know why Roderick is thanking you guys, when Roderick Wife is the reason behind Toque success!
Toque is my standard. While I have a few other than Toque that I keep in my stash- I am quite fond of SP Extra, Spanish Gem and Original. Great snuffs and in economy bags - a great value!
As a newbie snuffer who’s exploring all of the most critically acclaimed snuffs… I must say, I am gravitating towards my Torques more than any other, as an overall brand at least. It’s still early days, and I am seriously enjoying Viking Dark and F&T Old Paris (as well as many others)… but my 14 Torques just appear to be dominating my days. EDIT: @TerrapinFlyer: Your post reminded me that Spanish Gem was one of the few Toques in my stash which I hadn’t yet tried, and prompted me to do so… and wow… I can only hope that one day I’ll be able to articulate what a hedonistic experience it was… still is, and will be again and again, for the rest of this evening
@Nulliverse, I can’t describe it either, but that only adds to its charm for me. The W&H is definitely what it says on the tin. I tried a larger tin and they are the same. I think I meant to get 25g Toque W&H and 10g Toque USA W&H. My nose still tells me it is chocolate at first, but I can pick out the honey and the whiskey does become apparent soon enough. The St Clements took me back to my youth the first time I tried it: model airplane glue, and not in bad way. Once that association was broken, it started to grow on me, beckoning me to snuff it. I’m scenting some Natural, too, and that’s working out well.
To me there seems to be a significant difference between Toque W&H and Toque USA W&H that I attribute to the presence of Rustica in the USA version.
I thoroughly enjoy both of them but my preference is definitely for the USA version.
Oh, and on my birthday, I congratulate @Roderick for nine years of snuff. Are any tenth anniversary special editions in the works?
@TerrapinFlyer and @chris, I have USA W&H on the way and am looking forward to comparing it to W&H. And speaking of being taken back to childhood, Violet really takes me back to childhood Parmaviolet binges! The aroma lingers forever, too.
Just got some toque rustica in the mail today… WOW! This stuff is like gold… Just mixed up my first concoction… Also first tin of pumpkin pie one today… Three more to go…
I think I must be one of the only people who prefers the original W&H. It just has this savoury flavour to it that I’ve never had anywhere else. Since I’m a weirdo and actually taste my snuff now and then, I can also say this is present in the mouth flavour. Pure rustica is definitely something you want to mix or at least go easy on, especially in the morning. USA W&H is good, I just find it’s not as complex in general. I prefer to mix 25-50% pure rustica with regular W&H depending on how often I can take snuff that day. Rustica is a lifesaver for long full-mask shifts.
@AlbertaSnuff - I prefer the regular version, too. I take the USA version for the hit, but regular “tastes” better for me.
Has anybody tried mixing Toques floral scents with each other, or even other snuff?
Edit: I ask, because 1) I detect multiple scents in Wild Berries, but cannot pin-point or isolate them (Violet possibly?), as they are blended so seamlessly together. Perhaps it will come with time / experience. 2) Of an evening, I love to mix Toque Lavender with a dash of WoS Jasmine, or WoS Clove. I’ve never been into aromatherapy, but this makes for a very relaxing / therapeutic experience. That said, I find all my Toques (particularly the florals) VERY moorish. Not in in a fiendish, compulsive, needy sorta way, mind. I just get greedy for it! Find it nigh on impossible to overshoot! In praise of Toque indeed.
Snuffed Lime Toast for the first few times today. Athough it’s early days (new toy syndrome and all), I can immediately tell that that it has the potential to be my favorite Toque toast. The delicate balance of nuttiness, mixed with such zingy citrus tang, makes it truly exquisite.
Your suggestion turned into somewhat of an odd thread @Snuffbox.
I haven’t tried Toque’s Lime toast yet, but it’s on the list.
I agree with you @spyder but then again as I remember it all the threads back then were odd. Crazy wild bunch of guys and some real snuffing experts. I miss a lot of the old crew. I hope they’re all well.
Funny how my tastes have changed, reading the old posts. I got away from toasts and mostly prefer strong menthols or coarse, moist grinds these last years but if you like toasts Roderick’s W&H is right up there with the very best of them. Fresh, it’s a real mind-blower. I think the Lime turned out well and so did the lime menthol.
One of the neat things about the snuffing business is how accessible the manufacturers are and how open they are to suggestions and feedback.
The formatting here is so bizarre! Half the posts are sliced and diced no matter how normal they look in the editor.
Currently alternating Toque Spearmint with Toque Peppermint. One would normally expect the Peppermint to pack more of a punch… but not so with these two. To my nostrils, they’re neck & neck, and mix wonderfully.
Almond Toast - surely the most seamless toast / dessert crossover ever created. And I’m finding myself chain-snuffing large portions of Whiskey & Honey (regular). I know people have mentioned this regarding the USA counterpart (which is in the mail), but this stuff is extremely moorish.
You want to confuse your brain try crazy george. You cannot for the world give it a proper review. Mostly every tin has a different mix of toque snuff.
Indeed basement_shaman, and it seems like every time I bring it back into the rotation, I get something different. Blueberry one shift, coffee/mint the next…
In addition to a large selection, great prices and even better customer service Toque is the only manufacturer, that I know of, that will work with you to make your own bespoke (custom) snuff. This is truly made to order not just special branding applied to existing snuffs.
My Toque bespoke, Peanut Butter Toast, is my all day every day snuff and I hope Roderick never stops offering this service because I would be very sad if I could not get it anymore.
Thank you Toque!
Peanut Butter Toast sounds amazing. Unfortunately I can’t risk the 500g minimum order to get it to me, the customs bill would be way too harsh.
There would probably be enough demand for peanut butter toast that Roderick wouldn’t be stuck with much leftover…
@crullers It is amazing, the peanut butter scent and the toast go together very well. PM me, I will send out a small sample, I don’t have much left so I’ll need to order another batch soon.
That’s a very kind offer @Bodger_Boggins. PM sent.
So my W&H USA arrived last Thursday (together with 12 other untried Toques), and although I’ve not had a chance to test it properly, my initial impressions are definitely favourable. I could sense an ‘above the usual’ urge to redose - more so than the original W&H - but I didn’t find the nic content at all overpowering. It IS a bit fiendish I.E. more than ‘morish’, but I find many Toque’s to be so, regardless of nic content! Am looking forward to spending a bit more time with it… Edit: as a sidenote, I’d like to express my appreciation of Toque’s exemplary customer service and lightening speed shipping times
Ordered my first ever shipment from Toque and expecting it in the mail this afternoon. Excitement is not the word. Having read in depth many of these threads I think I’m in for a treat. I have been an on and off snuffer for 3 years but planning to kick the fags for good this weekend. I look forward to trying all ten of them in a few hours especially the Spanish Gem. Don’t smoke snuff Toque, well lets hope so anyway.
Good luck beating the smokes @Micah1209!
Toque does some really good stuff, for sure. And like others have said, Lime Toast is great and no one does an authentic fruit snuff quite like Toque (grapefruit was one of those “life changing” snuffs for me).
I’ll tell you what, though…for me, the absolute best Toque offering is the original Whiskey and Honey (others have mentioned it, too). I don’t do menthol, and WH has still had that “soothing” effect when I’m a little under the weather. It’s sweet but not cloying, whiskey scented but not overbearing. More than any other Toque, though, I think it’s a case where the specific scents are perfectly complementary to the base tobacco.
Toque Quit is a great snuff, I just hate the name (I’m not quitting, I just don’t smoke cigarettes). Violet is the only floral I like. Spanish Gem is rightly celebrated. SP Extra is a great, classical SP. I’ve more or less given up trying new Toque snuffs, I’m just lazy and happy with the ones I’ve found. Oh, Peppermint is a good menthol, but I usually cut it down to size substantially by mixing it with Quit. Oh, and honorable mentions to Vanilla, Chocolate and Pomegranate.
Toque Black Cherry just arrived and reminds me alot of Ozona Cherry, excellent sweet snuff.
@Micah1209 good luck on quitting the cigs. I quit over 3 years ago with snuff and snus and for me it was very easy. If you get the urge to smoke just do a few successive pinches of Quit or another higher nic snuff. Really the hardest part was the habit type things, like instinctively reaching for a smoke when I got in the car, not the craving part. If you have any questions just jump in and ask, this is the best forum on the net IMO.
@nulliverse regarding the almond toast on the front of the nose, I get a nice marzipan scent also.
I have been enjoying camphor&clove.my first snuff
don’t touch much sweets to the tongue, but love the Toque Chocolate.
Don’t put much liquor in the mouth, but also very much like the Whiskey and Honey.(original).
Cheers Willc. Been just over a week and no cigs, just a shed-load of Toques up my nose, good times I know. Can’t believe I didn’t do this earlier. It’s been such an easy and fun transition. Watching films and series at home getting snuffed out my mind is so much more fun than stinking of smoke. Toast and Marmalade and Xmas pudding definite favourites thus far, amazing.
Congrats, @Micah1209. :-)
Mark
Cheers dude. Just noticed only 2 letters are different in our names hehe. Mine is Mark Stirton. It seems with each day my enthusiasm for snuff is escalating at a frightening pace. Especially Toques. Getting high on Toque Ginger as I write this. Thanks again for the support.
Roderick is awesome. Not just because he makes a solid and interesting snuff product. But the customer service is second to none. Plus you get the impression he only makes snuff to have an excuse to be excessive in his quality control. Or at least that’s what I think. And the chap has a sense of humor about himself which is refreshing. And if someone just asks a crazy question here he seems to sniff it out (probably snuff induced super power).
I just got my first Toque order in about a year and damned if I know why it’s been so long. I was on a coarse moist kick this year with mostly viking dark. But now that I have toque original and sp extra on hand again I’m finding they’re just abou the only things going in my nose. I forgot just how wonderful the Toque scents are and I’m planning on revisiting some more old favorites (looking at you Spanish Gem) very soon. Beyond that though is the sheer quality and complexity of the base tobacco and the silkiness of the grind. @Roderick is truly a master.
I am willing that I am their biggest single customer on Menthol, for some reason I go through a pound a month, I am starting to think that Roderick is poking holes in my bag…and my refill tins…and anywhere else I try to store it just so I buy more! Maybe I should just tell my cheepskate friends to buy their own!
Yea Toque(Roderick) is a very awesome and consistent with their scents. For something different I like the black truffle snuff.also the Crazy George is good, you always get different kinds of scents every time you take a snuff. Also happy 9th anniversary @Roderick (Toque) <:-P
Toque is a fantastic snuff company and there are so many Toque snuffs that I greatly enjoy I cannot list them all here. But I can say that we are very very fortunate indeed to have someone with the dedication and integrity of Roderick to be the owner of that great company. And the fact that he admitted publicly (earlier in this thread) that his wife is the true intelligence behind the product and the company is an even greater testimony to his wisdom.
