I have heard the benefits and pleasures of Swedish snus taking, but am also aware that it is banned in the UK. It does seem absolutely crazy that snus is banned and other tobacco products are not. Anyway, is it possible to buy from an overseas supplier, for example swedishsnus.com, for personal consumption in the UK, or will it just get seized by customs officials?
Hi sandy,it will most likely get seized,i believe snus is illegal in all of EU bar sweden and denmark,im sure someone will correct me if this isnt the case. We still have tax free snuff(for now)so its not all bad lol. Happy snuffin Simon
I may be wrong, but I seem to recall on the snuson forum, people in the EU ordering snus, and just having to pay some kinda tax called VAT. I know you can’t sell it in the UK, but I’d re-ask about buying it at snuson. Tom502
Thank you for the advice. I am happy enough with snuff, although there are some occasions when snus would be more convenient. I currently use Oliver Twist Original occasionally when I fancy a taste of tobacco, although I have heard snus is less unhealthy.
With the Oliver Twist, does that require spitting? Tom502
NO!
tom502 - no but I do and I don’t try to gut it. I have dipped to long to not spit.
Never thought about spitting with Oliver Twist. Tastes good with no unpleasantness. Why do you spit with dip? Excuse my ignorance. I have only occasionally used twist tobacco and have never used dip.
@sandy: the juices tend to upset the stomach , you can even poison yourself if you’re not careful. Really bad things like vomiting , diarrhea , nausea , etc. And it’s pretty nasty on your pancreas. * Snus is said to not have those problems , something to do with the processing the tobacco undergoes. *From what I’ve heard at least. I never tried it and i can’t provide a source for my statements. Someone else around here is sure to be better informed :).
I only spit when I first started snusing, but I got over it quickly. With most snus you won’t need to spit, but at first the small amount of juice/saliva may bother you, but it doesn’t make you gut-wrenchingly sick like gutting dip juice will. Honestly, most people get over it quickly. And Jack is right. I’ve heard the things about pancreas cancer too, and it’s true that it’s double the risk of non tobacco users. The catch that the anti-snus morons don’t want you to know is…the risk of non-tobacco users is like .002 percent. The risk of snusers is like .004 percent. So yeah…the risk is double, but that isn’t saying much.
Smoking has an even higher pancreatic cancer risk. Who knows how inhaled smoke gets to the pancreas? Maybe those small numbers don’t take full account of factors beyond the control of the test subjects. Coffee is linked to pancreatic cancer too. Drinking something with the snus gets you over that gutting period pretty quickly. Something slightly acidic I should think to counteract the alkalinity of the snus? I drink tea constantly and never really had any trouble, only some burping. Dipping on the other hand produces an extrodinary amount of juice by comparison. Mainly due to the fact that it is placed very close to where saliva enters the mouth. Its really hard not to spit it, you get so much. Some experienced dippers have learned to control how much saliva they release, and even gut some of the juice. The chemicals in that stuff are not terribly safe for ingestion though. Snus only has food additves.
What I like about the Oliver Twist is the strong tobacco taste. So you get that with snus? Beer and wine are acidic, so I guess drinking those with snus in the mouth is not a problem?
You can buy snus in the UK, I bought some from the northerner. As someone said you can buy it but not sell it here. Stefan
yep, wine and beer go well with snus. There are a few youtube videos on “how to snus”. One has a guy telling you to drink a coke with it, another one is a girl who tells you to drink wine with it. I prefer tea, but it was my preffered drink anyway. Water will work in a pinch, since it is neutral. It can’t actually neutralize the alkalinity, but it will dilute it. Conversely, if you are getting heartburn from too much acid, don’t waste money on antacids just drink some baking soda in water (or have a snus!)
OT: everytime I see this topic in on the discussions index page I think it reads ‘Importing anus to UK’. Must be my dirty mind I guess…
OT: When I was a property manager I sent a memo to everyone in the building anouncing, starting Monday, we would begin “pressure washing selected pubic areas” (I meant public of course) One letter makes a big diference and of course spell check let it go. I never heard the end of that one…
OT: >> Conversely, if you are getting heartburn from too much acid, don’t waste money on antacids just drink some baking soda in water (or have a snus!) Baking soda has saved me more times than i can count , I rarely get heartburn anymore (i quit eating junk and got more relaxed about my daily business. It’s better to prevent it though , less chance of getting kidney stones. One other thing that works in extreme cases (no baking soda or antacids around) is chewing an Orbit gum once or twice and then swallowing. Also plain white , no fluorine toothpaste works (as a last resort, don’t ingest too much. Maybe just wash your teeth and swallow half of the first rinse )
@ toffeenose: Is it legal to import anus to the UK? With all the meat scares, I’d be wary.
if anus importation is illegal in england what part of the body would people smugle it into the country in???
Snus is illegal to sell in the UK, since it is not in the UE. But its legal to sell in all the rest of the countries in Europe correct? I was having a discussion with a friend and he mentioned he heard it is illegal to sell in all countries in Europe, but my question was how come it is sold in Sweden? Sweden being a member of the UE and recently had the presidency of the Union… Can anyone give a correct statement on where it is allowed to sell snus in Europe?
