Has anyone else noticed that snuff tends to really clear the head and give you a bit of an energy hit, as opposed to cigarettes?
Well I think it very much depends on the snuff. Personally for me there are a few that clog me up and just make me feel rubbish due to the conjested sinuses. Very much dependant on the person and the snuff I suppose.
Yeah, I suppose I meant the mind, more than the head. My husband has a theory that because cig smoke cuts your oxygen a bit, it makes you sleepy, nulling the effect of the stimulant (nicotine), but I don’t really know.
Well for me, the nicotine hit makes me, well it’s hard to discribe really however I suppose in one sense yes it does. All I know it snuff smells nice and has a rather pleasent effect.
I find some snuffs calm me down - rose scented especially, like Toque Rose or Dholakia Ganga.
I know that my partner uses snuff sometimes exclusively to keep himself awake while working at his desk late into the night. He’s somewhat more of an occasional user, so, like coffee, he’ll take a pinch when he is getting worn out, and as the pinches become more frequent, the effect becomes counter-productive as the n-high eventually disorients and exhausts him. He uses mostly menthols, along with a little F&T. For me, Toque’s Spanish Gem and Whisky/Honey are a couple of ‘cozy’ ones that have a similar effect on me as a warm fluffy blanket. The Princes from F&T, is one I sniff for its aroma-therapeutic qualities; I find it GROUNDING, it helps me to FOCUS, clears my head. (Most anything with a pleasant, noticeable geranium scent is likely to accomplish that for me:) I find that ones with menthol in them tend to be too disorienting to ground me in the same way- but I think I need to try more, varying levels of menthols before I set that judgment in stone. The other one that’s more ‘perky’ that I keep in daily rotation is Toque’s Absinthe. It’s a clove/anise one, and while not quite a kick in the face, sure is refreshing when I’m at work or concentrating *too hard* on something! The scent is briefly distracting, like a firm tap on the shoulder. I learned from it that I would probably really like other anise/clove mixtures. Every now and again I notice that the off pinch actually makes me feel slightly MORE tired, but that might be microscopic dust particles in my eyes, as it usually passes within moments. (Erm…) Mmm, imagining it now, I think a lemon would be refreshing, too. I’ll have to pick up one or two in my next order!~
I’ve kind of wondered about that myself. I seem to notice effects that can both ways depending on the snuff. Heavy, rich smoky snuffs with slight perfuming along the lines of Pariser No.2 tend to make me feel relaxed, content and comfortable. On the flip side of the coin, a healthy blast of something like Dholokia White or Rooster…I find myself feeling more focused and stimulated. I think it’s most a psychosomatic reaction to the various scents, burns and sensory aspects of the snuff, but with nicotine being a stimulant I’m sure that has some effect on it
I think I actually took too much snuff earlier on (is it possible?!). I was snuffing away some GH Amdassordor as I really like the smell and plus, I want to get that tin done and out the way. So I was really pushing as much as I could up there. I’m talking a very large pinch in each notrol, and several o at a time at that… Then it happened. The nicotine hit all in one go… I has so much coursing through my body that when I stood up, I had to be careful not to collaspe. I felt it for at least an hour or so. Don’t think I’ll be doing that again, even if I want to finish off a tin quickly… Although I will say sometimes I have notice that some are refreshing and uplifting.
well i tell you what ive noticed with snuff, its the same effect as with smoking and having a good drink, i still get a headache the next day and i thought i wouldnt as im not smoking now, it seems its not the actual smoking and drinking that gives me the next day headache, its the amount of nicotine.
Well, I have a tiny bit of a headache now, due to the nicotine overload I had earlier… The run a moment ago probably didn’t help either, but the lengths one must go to, to keep fit. Although I will say, you’re the first person I’ve ever heard of always getting a headache the next day. Edit to add: Not saying I didn’t like the sheer amount of nicotine, it felt great. Just put me out of comission for a while so that’s why I probably won’t do it again. lol
its wierd, this is the first saturday night i havnt wanted to smoke for as long as i remember, ive had a few times where i thought, a cigarette would be nice right now but thought why bother as im doing some nice snuffs and drinking real ales. if i dont smoke tonight i wont bother tomorrow and that means next saturday i,ll not be bothered by smoking coz i,ll be doing snuff and drinking again, its been a gradual thing with cutting down on the smoking, especially at the weekend when i most like to drink and smoke.
After quitting the worst desire for smoking for me was when I drank as well, it got better though after a weekend or two. Now I don’t really notice it. I haven’t had any headaches yet, and from the amount I have been dipping and snuffing since I quit, you would think I would run into it at some point. Last week I was hitting the Dholokia White like there was no tomorrow. I’m sure my headaches will come in time though.
The nicotine in snuff hits the bloodstream without a bunch of carbon monoxide, cynaide and other poisons - so I believe you get a cleaner dose and one that is more (even very briefly) uplifting. The cigarette hit is very ‘dirty’ - for me - and actually makes me feel pretty tired. On headaches, I’ve been using snuff for years and a good couple of pinches will often kill a headache dead.
