If you had to pick one country for Snuff…

M

As much as I enjoy Snuff from Germany, India and the US, I have a real preference for English Snuff. The grinds and flavours just seem to suit me best. Opinions?

R

I agree. English snuffs suit me well. Except for Toque, I’m not sure if it would be an English snuff or something else? Either way I love Toque as well, my first snuff order was from toque.

W

As a proud Englishman I have to say English snuffs are the best. German snuffs are to oily and fake for me, Americans all taste the same, Indian snuffs while very nice can be a bit overwhelming, SA snuffs are much of a muchness as regards grind but the best for nicotine. The best all rounders are definately English. Stefan

S

English snuffs. Apart from 5 Photo Himalaya everything else I’ve tried from abroad has either disappointed or offended me in some way.

G

I have found I can get everything I want from one country. The country is the one in which Mr. Snuff is located. He has snuff from lots of countries so I pick Mr. Snuffs country!!!

D

I must say I would be torn between England and America right now. Granted they are the bulk of what I have experienced. England definitely seems to have the variety. But Americans can sure get you there is you have the nose for scotches. Ken

Mr. Snuff is in Scotland. Toque is almost in Scotland, and would be except for a historical redrawing of the border. For myself, I’d have to say English snuffs as well, strictly for the variety. One must be mindful that some of the styles that we think of as English snuffs are borrowed from other places such as France or Ireland, where snuff is no longer made. I don’t find German snuffs to be fake, at least not when looking at the whole spectrum. Bernard and Sternecker have outstanding products. Bernard easily ranks in my top 5 favorite snuff companies. Also I cannot forget the gifts of the Dutch! They seem to get overshadowed with snuff giant nations England on one side and Germany on the other, but that pair of windmills makes some world class snuff! They have only one company, but have a large number of varieties.

T

It takes a rather sick individual to ask such a absurd question. :-S I suppose if I had to pick it would be English snuffs, the flavors and grinds suit me the best as well.

G

Ok! Scotland it is!

S

Probably England, due to the huge variety.

B

English snuff!

E

England. But I like german, s.african, dutch, and others.

B

A unified one world goverment. Sorry but your silly question means it has to be that way. Thanks alot.

T

India.

N

Indian snuff is my preference.

J

UK has the most variety: Toque, WoS, McChrystals etc That being said, I still prefer German snuffs. They seem to have more substance to them than many grainy english varities

C

It’s a toss up between Germany and India.

A

Must say England, they’ve kept our traditions alive too.

P

England GSTQ

A

England; variety, pedigree. Second place would be India, albeit due to one company’s recently expanded range. US snuffs are world class if you like Scotch. Was there ever SP or other types in the US? A little history from the expert please…

T

It is so difficult to choose! I choose England, but Germany comes in at a close second.

X

@ snuffster: I don’t know about SPs in the US but there were rappees at least. Some of the old tins are on ebay periodically. Oh, and theoretically high toast as recently as the 1980s from Helme (Lorillard). I don’t know if it was a proper toast or just another scotch.

M

Well, if I had to, English snuff would be the proper choice. Thankfully, like the desert island scenario, we need not make such a horrendous decision.

P

European Union

B

Swazieuromericaland.

S

@thatjerk: …absurd. Indeed. Royal George up my nose.

M

Even though I’m fascinated with American snuff (to the point of buying every scotch and sweet available), I think the English ones are my favourite for nasal use. I’d definitely pick the U.S. for oral tobacco though!

T

For oral snuff(moist snuff, aka dip, and chew too) in general, I think I’d pick the USA. Even over Sweden, though while I do like snus, mainly for it’s spitless aspect, I like the variety of oral tobaccos in the US, and I think I find them more satisfying.

M

Definitely the US for oral Tobacco. I am intrigued with the idea of using Kendal twist for chewing, though. It’s sort of a dual use thing. You can slice a bit off to make a plug for putting in a pipe or popping it into your mouth.

B

sweeden all the way for oral tobacco. Though I’ve not tried any of the english stuff and would love to.

P

@Tc2642 by picking the European Union I have all the snuffs, except US, available!! At present I have about a kilogram of US snuffs in stock, so no problem for me.

T

All Sweden had though, is snus. Snus is great, sure… but the variety of the US oral tobaccos make it number one to me. But I do think it’d be a good idea if General would release their long cut to the US shops.

S

While I am certainly a big fan of American scotches and most English snuff, if I had to choose just one country I would go with Germany. That’s mainly because it’s the only country I can think of that offers any schmalzlers worth mentioning. And I could at least cover some of the other snuff genres because Pöschl has a nice range of other snuffs.
