Ice Liquorice

Ice Liquorice is another great mentholated snuff from Wilsons, and another case of living up to what it says on the tin. The menthol level is quite strong, but the liquorice is upfront and dominating. I get a kind of ‘fizzy’ sensation when taking this snuff, reminding me of fizzy coated thin liquorice sticks or little cola bottle sweets. It has a similiar grind to many of Wilsons’ other snuffs of this ilk, so it can get a bit clumpy, but that’s not a bad thing.

The closest comparison to another snuff I can make is to Poschl’s Lowen-Prise. I can’t decide which one I prefer overall, but if you like one, then you’ll probably appreciate the other.

There are not many Licorice snuffs on the market. Plenty of aniseed snuffs, but not many licorice ones. There are differences in these two flavors, though subtle. Sadly, there are not really any non mentholated Licorice snuffs. This one is “Ice” Liqourice. “Ice” meaning heavy menthol to freeze your nose. Well, its not nearly as icy as Aniseed Extra, and being licorice the flavor is a bit sweeter, but it still only ranks two stars for me. Again, its all good quality and if these kinds of flavors are your thing, than this is good snuff. If you like more subtle aniseed snuffs then get the Aniseed & Eucalyptus. If you don’t like both menthol and anise, than stay away! Rating: 2/5 First tried: January 2009 Style: modern flavored/mentholated Grind: medium (demigros) Moisture: medium
