I was talking with a USA MARINE ( thanks TROOPS ) today and discussion of snuff came up ( because he seen it on my nose and asked if I was using snuff )so he said it was pretty prevalent with some of the troops, cause at times they cant smoke ( he said smoke can be detected in combat or they are around alot of combustibles … so no flames allowed ) We talked a bit and he mentioned he saw a native in the region in The Middle East using a spoon that was like a long small ice cream scoop, they pack with some snuff and than rotate it in a flame, empty the snuff out on a plate and snuff warm or heated snuff… Immediately I was totally intrigued by this method ( I am supposing its like heating a pinch between your fingers, but maybe better. Anyone ever heard of this? And what snuff can it be done with. Is there some ingredients in certain snuff that shouldn’t be heated. I wanna try at least putting one of my small snuff spoons in a flame, but would like to hear from others first.

I know when I keep my snuff box in my pants pocket in between uses I get stronger scent from the snuff. Or when I spent a couple hours in the truck plowing snow I’ve kept my snuffs on the dashboard with the heater going that really made the scents stronger. But I think if you hit it with a flame it would burn and contain some not so pleasant scents. Just my thoughts and maybe they were using a different kind of tobacco or snuff. Maybe some other members with more knowledge can answer this better.

Warming, not heating, any aromatic will heighten the smell. As with cognac. The only exception that comes to mind is being in a club in Los Angeles and watching some much older guy trying to impress a much younger woman by wrapping his Cohiba cigar in a napkin that he had poured a good cognac over and then heating the cigar. An hour later when he left the cigar had been lit but not smoked. I suspect the cognac had washed the oils out of the leaf. I have friends in Iraq and Afghanistan and they use lip snuff such as copenhagen much of the time for the reasons cited by AANYCAARDS. Nose snuff is far safer with little or no carcinogenic affects. And nicotine is very good for you. the big pharms almost came out with it in pill form but not being patentable and the real likelihood of law suits really killed that idea. I can think of a very funny story about aromatics and heat, but this is not the time though when i grow more comfortable here it may be the place
