Hi all! I haven’t yet tried Swisher Honey Bee, Navy Sweet, Macoboy, Tube Rose, etc, and would like to…however I can’t find an online source at the moment that sells them in single pocket size cans. I’d like to try them first, so I don’t want to buy a 30 or 130 gram tin, or a wholesale pack of 12 pocket cans just yet. Does anyone know of any places online where I can find these (especially Honey Bee…) in small cans?
What do you mean by “pocket can?” The smallest I’ve ever seen is 1.15 oz.
@miamimark: don’t mind me…I think I’m just being stupid today. lol! I mistook a 130 gram can for a standard can. lol.
@miamimark I have a half ounce size ,No Idea where or if they still sell them
Yeah those might be called pocket cans. They’re fairly rare. I’ve only seen them in photos online and only of Garrett regular and sweet. I think MrSnuff had some briefly.
MrSnuff has some Swisher brand in 30g single cans. Only Railroad Mills Sweet, Navy Plain, Navy Sweet and Ralph’s Dry though.
Lil Brown has them, but you have to buy the box I think. http://lilbrown.com/c-120-dry-snuff.aspx
Looks like the 1.15 oz is called the “pocket” size. A bit bulky for my pocket. The little half ounce guys are called what?
You may have some luck checking at a local tobacco shop. Many tobacco shops carry at least a couple american scotches. I’ve also noticed that Food Lion has a surprising selection of tobacco, so they might be worth a glance.
I don’t think there’s a Food Lion chain here in Seattle… ;(

awesome! Thanks for the info!! They’re right here in WA!
@Xander I think the tiny sizes are “samples”. I remember some being sold on E-Bay that actually had “sample” on the label. Perhaps another tin for your quest?
@Juxtaposer true some are marked sample and you see those on ebay a lot, but as @Cstokes4 could show, as he bought some when MrSnuff had them a year or so back. As for my own tin collection, I don’t need an example every size variation or design change. Pursuing that would lead to madness… :O) :-t ~X(
Yes, those little cans are for retail sale. I found a few antique ones a few years back, they were also labeled for retail sale.
I have a friend who has offered to bring me back some snuff from America when she goes there next month, I assumed they’d be little 10g tins like WoS etc, over here. I don’t think she’s expecting a ‘bargain bucket’ sized thing!
@HR_pufnsnuff The standard size is roughly an ounce, however, all three major companies sell them at precisely 1.15 oz for a reason that I have yet to see adequately explained. This is roughly 32.6 grams. The tubs will fill in and sit on a shelf or rack nicely with F&T medium tins, G/H 25g mini tubs, the old Smith’s 1 oz bottles, etc. The idea of pinching from the tin hasn’t caught on among our manufacturers except from the domestic Brit ones (Dean Swift, Toque USA, Silver Dollar). The one exception is the tiny new independent Dark Horse, which is impossible to find. Your friend may have a very difficult time finding snuff for you if she’s not familiar with the territory or even what she’s looking for. More than likely she’ll return to you with a tin of Copenhagen, as the term snuff is used rather liberally for snuff-like things. The scotch snuffs are non-existent in many parts of the US and rare in most of the rest. If you let us know what area of the country she is visiting, and you can pass information to her, we might be able to improve her chances of success.
Thanks, Xander - I’ll let you know!
Upon reflection it occurs to me that a nautical mile is 1.15 statute miles. Perhaps snuff is sold by the “nautical ounce” :))
Maybe they were using troy oz’s originally. 1 troy oz is 1.097 imperial oz. Close to the 1.15. Did they measure the snuff with silver coins?
Righty ho, I asked my friend where she’s going - Fort Myers, Florida. Will she have any luck there? Recommendations for non-menthol American nasal snuff are welcome - any idea how much is she likely to be paying - she likes to bring back presents for people, but I don’t want her to spend much, she’s too kind already for offering!
