I went to see my dermatologist for an UGLY skin condition, and one of the questions the nurse always asks is about tobacco use. They are even more interested at a Dermatologist as the smoke can really aggravate some things really bad. When i told her I gave up smoking but not the nic she looked at me with sad eyes and asked if I was chewing. I told her that I was using nasal snuff and she just gave me the strangest look. When the doc came in she saw there was no tobacco answer, and the same question, and got the same response. She looked confused too and said she didn’t have an other box for tobacco. She just marked me for no tobacco use because she had no idea what to do. Hahahaha
@Dogwalla, just shows that there are not enough of us that are educating others… There are all kinds of tobacco use. Not just smoking cigarettes or chewing. Just maybe someone with the right letters behind their name will someday note that fact. At any rate, hope the ‘condition’ clears in 2013…
It doesn’t really bother me at all as far as itch, and similar things, but it really looks horrifying. I have to keep it buzzed to get the meds on it, so it just scares the hell out of people at the office. It’s a bit fun to bother others sometimes “Why did you have to buzz your hair?” “You waste a ton of the cream if you have hair.” “So?” “It’s $350 per tube.” The truth is my insurance covers all but $30, but it sure freaks them out. hahahaha
No tobacco use. That’s rich. It’s the PURIST form of tobacco use. And she went to college…
When I told my Ear Nose & Throat specialist how well snuff worked for me as a decongestant, he actually ADVOCATED my use of snuff. (Decongestants interact with some of my other medications.) Sad to say… I couldn’t get him to go as far as writing me a script for it. ^#(^
Have had similar experiences with a doc or two myself. There’s a certain response when you say that you might want to quit cigarettes but not snuff, then you go through the explanation of what it is, why you use it, etc. They can be as out of the (information) loop as the average-joe on the street. I ended up telling my doc that I’m into the whole harm-reduction deal, and that the tobacco is too theraputic to my psyche to give it up… I wonder if medicare would pay for a snuff prescription…
the best I had was a doctor saying that’s better then smoking and his main point was it’s addictive. He was a cool doctor though, and he liked my space ghost shirt. He thought my snus use was a bigger deal and thought there was a good chance it helped me get my saliva gland infection I had at the time (he wasn’t certain, but was certain american chew does contribute too such infections). By the way you’ll know if you have a saliva gland infection cause it hurts like a kick to the jaw.
@howdydave Hahahaha My ent liked the idea. I’ll see if she will give me a script. She’s awesome.
@Dogwalla – That’s what we need… Pharmacy insurance to pay for our snuff!
There was a time in India when village doctors used to prescribe snuff for common colds

Same here in Ireland. Gallaher’s even had a famous slogan ‘a pinch of snuff a day keeps the cold away’.
Snuff is good and it works. And that is all that matters.
