I’ve noticed two of my Toque tins will not shut, they just keep cross threading - that is very annoying because you have to find a new tin to put it in - which I haven’t got!!
Haven’t had that happen. I hope I never do. But it’s always good to have some extra containers about. I’ll use whatever I can find if I need something. Pill bottles, old plastic film cans.
A little tip that works for me; pack the the tin as you would a can of dip to level the snuff. Place on a level surface and gently open. You will see the snuff practically overflowing the tin. Now use your thumb to tamp the snuff down, packing it with enough pressure to make it form a level surface of snuff in the tin. Do this with enough pressure to take the surface of the snuff a few mills below the lip of the tin. You will now have what looks like a compacted layer of snuff. This can surprisingly stay in shape in your pocket, when you take a pinch just re-tamp it down. Works for me anyhoo…
Oh, that just reminded me, but I think it’s too late. I bought a can of moist dip and hated it, it sat on my desk for a while, but then I through it in the trash, now I wish I emptied out the container, as maybe I could have poured some Bruton in it… that can just may still be in the big trash can… I’ll have to check.
Sandy, put some super glue on the thread on the outside of the tin and leave to dry. Works like a dream. Best thing to do with Wilson’s/McChrystal’s tins: transfer contents of tin to a decent container and dump the tin. The tin was only meant to deliver the snuff to you and certainly not to pinch from. I hate those things. When ever you open the tin, the snuff sits on the side of it, ready to escape. Can this be a selling point? Waste more snuff than you pinch, so buy MORE snuff?!!

Take some alcohol (whatever you don’t like drinking!) and dip a cotton ball in it and a couple of swings round the tin and your problem is no more. P.S. to whoever said he likes the G Smith tins, Sam Gawith also offers these tins (someone said they make G. Smith’s snuffs and it would certainly appear so based on the tins, who knows?) but they only sell them in lots of 16 one-ounce quantities (ask Farley) and charge VAT for customers overseas. They turn out to be quite expensive. The tins themselves are really large, big enough so you can place a whole large Wilsons tin inside one, and seal nicely because the lids have a thin rubber gasket on the top. Probably the best of the non-screw top tins.
Sounds like a good design, Snuffbox, though I can see why it would be expensive. Reading through old posts, I read that G. Smith’s contracts to both S. Gawith and to Gawith Hoggarth. I don’t remember the topic, but look for posts from a fellow named “Ji” ( I think).
The tins are actually reusable. I think you could buy their bulk and refill the tins from it if you wanted. The problem is I haven’t seen any online shop that sells the large size tins, only the mill. You can buy 10g or a half or one pound size, but the large tins are scarcer then hen’s teeth.
@Snuffbox, who is “Farley”? Wasn’t there someone on this board called Farley. Hasn’t been here for a while though.
FarleyFlavors is the member from UK who did the group buy for us from SG a few times. I have missed him lately, hope he’s ok.
I think FarleyFlavors was banned some time ago. I think he must have upset someone or somebody.
I recall there was a thread on religion which I stayed out of LOL. I don’t think that’s a reason to ban somebody. I hope that wasn’t the case.

I think a good 50% or more of people drop off after a few months. I guess you have to be real fanatic to keep on having the same discussion, which is basically what we do. Farley was banned after posting a paedophile joke, btw.
