Hello all! I haven’t posted in a while, but I’ve been here, finally got back to snuffing after a few weeks hiatus. To the point though! I just wanted to start a thread to ask everyone about their first snuffing experience, so please comment with yours! Mine is rather boring I read about snuff online and had been smoking loosies here and there, I knew I liked tobacco and more so nicotine but cigarettes didn’t quite fit the bill. So, with much patience, i recieved my snuff- crumbs of comfort, old paris, and seville. Crumbs of comfort was perfection. It opened up a whole new horizon for me. That culminates my first experience, so please share yours!
with my nose. SEriously though they had it at my local and I was into trying every form of tobacco. Sadly it was Dean Swift so I was not as impressed as I could have been. When I started dateing my current girlfriend I couldn’t smoke in the apartment so I started snuffing again and then found that with snus and snuff I lost all interest in the cigs. Of course I still smoke the occasional cigar and the less occasional pipe (got three nice ones and one really crappy but nice looking one.).
I received a 10gr tin of Toque absinthe back in the middle of 2009 in a trade on Snuson. This probably wasn’t the best one to start my snuffing adventure with, as it nearly blew the back of my skull off. But, in a way, it was like wasabi…it hurt so good! So, i picked up some Scotches from the local convenience store, placed a small order from Toque, and never looked back.
I first tried it back in the 80’s when in high school. Mostly to sneak a snuff in class. I did not fall in love with it then and gave away my tap box to a friend. A year or so ago I saw some Ozona orange at my local pipe shop and on a lark picked it up. That was all I could find locally so two orders from Mr. Snuff later I am hooked. I hardly smoke at all any more.
Me too, actually in a science classroom in the 80’s. A gal acquaintence(sp?) had a tin of ozona raspberry.
A pal offered me a pinch of WoS Extra menthol. Sneezed myself silly and have been hooked ever since.
Stole a pinch from my grandfather in 1957 . Grew my own and fire cured in 1980 - 1984 found it was way less work and less expensive to buy the leaf profesionaly grown and cured .still have flour from 84 found David Mr.snuff and Snuffhouse in 2011 now its a whole new world of snuff . Didn’t know there were more than three or four flavored snuffs .Wow .
Kept seeing it on online pipe shops and decided to give it a try.
I was at the Chap Olympiad last year http://www.thechapolympiad.com/ and a friend offered me some. I don’t smoke but thought it was great, not sure which brand but it was definately floral. I’m attracted by the huge range of flavours and sensations you can find.
My wife runs a vintage website (actually 3 websites) and we threw a cocktail party, pictures here for anyone who has nothing better to do http://cocktails.vintagenorwich.co.uk/?page_id=93&album=1&gallery=2. I thought a snuff bar would be a good idea, borrowing the idea from a party at the New Sheridan Club http://newsheridanclub.co.uk/ . They had had a table with a few tins of snuff for people to try. In fact, my friend from the Chap Olympiad had nicked his snuff from that very party. I took it a step further by putting it in a suitcase and adding ‘spoons’ and labels to help people try the snuff (and to stop them pinching whole tins).
Now I buy a regular selection of snuff for the bar. I try not to change it too often as I then have to redo all my labels etc. But when I order ‘the regulars’ I always stick something new down for me to try. If it’s nice and different enough from what I already have then it goes in the bar.
P.S. If you like tongue in cheek English eccentricity then there are still tickets for this years chap Olympiad available. I shall be entering both the Martini Relay and Bicycle Jousting.
Just realised how much I ramble! Sorry.
I was just researching different forms of tobacco for kicks when I was bored one day and found out about snuff, it piqued my interest so I placed an order for some Toque Coke and Toque Peanut Butter. The rest, as they say, is history.
I blame my habit on Mick and Brant…
:))
Although to be fair…they piqued my interest, after that my all or nothing personality took over.
I first ran into it in a book I was reading at the time, Dead Names by Simon (hah, I guess I can thank the Necronomicon for my snuff). Years later I needed something to curb my smoking since I am a severe asthmatic and it nearly killed me a few times. So for a good while after that I used american dip. Then my kid had a habit of grabbing my spit bottles and running with them, once dumping an open one over her head (my wife was furious and disgusted and rightly so). So then I recalled nasal snuff and ground up some cigs to see what I thought of the idea…I loved it. My original intent was not to completely give up cigs, but it’s turned into that. So yeah, that’s my story =P
@Harlequin you win the bob unoffical medal for best why I started snuffing story!
@Slide, I’ll take the blame for your habit, but I reject any connection to your TAD affliction.
I started in the early 80’s with a tin of Garrett. After trying a few pinches I quick gave up. Tried again with the same results in the early 90’s. In the summer of '08 I got a free sample from Toque. That was truly the start of my snuffing history. Snus got me mostly of the cigs. Snuff finished the job. Snus is still my main nicotine source but snuff is very much a part of my daily routine.
yeah, i blame bigmick … and his co-founder at sTe, Feck aka Rob … but thank goodness i started … it helped me quit the smokes for good.
and yeah … slide’s TAD is about a severe a case next to O-Wabbit’s I have seen …
:))
For me was love at first sight , always wanted to try it but till then I did not know where to buy it, I was in a smoke related shop buying a shisha as a birthday gift for my father , when saw a Gawith apricot tapbox, figured on my own what it was and asked how much for it , I thought that the clerk would say an astronomic price, what he said seemed cheap to me. Ten minutes later I was snuffing like crazy, and sneezing !!!
I remember googling it and after reading for a short spell, said to myself, 'self, now you know that you’re well aware that certain drugs can be absorbed through your nose, from your younger days, and one of them happens to be tobacco!
Moments later, another aah occurred when I flashed back to a time some thirty years ago, peering into a container of rooster snuff and wondering why in the hell did they powder it if we are supposed to dip it? What’s up with that?
But first off, I’m thankful for the high taxes that priced cigarettes to the point that I was ashamed of myself for purchasing them any longer. Then to google.
