How to use a lot of snuff?

Hi I’ve been using snuff for a while and I’m wondering what the best way to use it to get a good nicotine hit (at least to feel it I don’t seem to feel it), I used my czech pipe tool as a snuff spoon about 30 minutes ago 1/3 full with some toque coke and while I spilled too much I did catch a decent hit I had a fair of it come out my throat which is also annoying. How much can you use a day that’s like normal since I use like half a can of snus portions a day (most of these are sterks). This is funny but the post isn’t a joke it’s also inarticulate but kind of the idea is how to use nasal snuff to replace other sources of nicotine. Oh and how necessary are the neti pots anyways does regular nasal spray or nothing work fine toom, right now I just use kleenex but my nose kind of hurts. Any tips appreciated.

Using snuff as a way of cutting down other stuff is completely viable - there are plenty of ex 2 packs a day people on this site, myself included - you just need to be abit systematic about it. First off, snuff doesn’t give the same ‘hit’ as a cigarette in terms of immediacy but it does give the same nicotine; the difference is it comes on more slowly. Don’t think in terms of using a lot of snuff because you’ll probably just give yourself the symptoms of a heavy cold. The age old approach is very simple; whenever you need a smoke (I don’t use snus so can’t compare) simply take a decent sized pinch, about the size of a pea spread between both nostrils. Do it whenever you feel the nic craving. This will require patience and won’t happen over night but eventually the craving will be for snuff not whatever you are trying to quit. It’s practically impossible to take too much snuff so use it freely. In actual fact most snuffs have very similar nic levels so the type you use is not too important and like most things failure happens through not persevering as opposed to anything else. Re-education to a different delivery sytstem is all its about.

Good post @snuffster; that kind of information is why I value this forum so much. I’ve found that when I take snuff in regular amounts on a frequent basis - every few minutes to half hour - that I do not have nicotine cravings. It’s when I go a little longer that the nic issue kicks in. By then it’s too late; I need a quick fix and that’s either my ecig or an actual cigarette to get me over the hump. Then I’m back on track.

Thanks for the advice I realize it’s not going go give you a quick buzz but what I’m talking about is I don’t feel much of anything like I use nasal snuff and then just throw in a poriton, I know it works because when I started using nasal snuff a year ago and was doing about half a gram a day I ended up cutting back on snus a fair amount? Anyways yeah I’m not quitting smoking it’s not an all or nothing thing really I’m just trying to cut down on snus to like 6 to 8 prillas/portions a day from what I think is around 12-15.

I’m not sure what brand of snuff you are using , but there are low nic snuff’s & high nic snuff’s , try a high nic snuff like Rooster or Bruton, that should help.

I don’t even think about cigs anymore - gave them up 2 months ago-ish. I’m using my pipe less and less too. Just snuff when you want to smoke. Your body will switch to wanting snuff and not cigs pretty quickly. The American Scotches are really helpful for dealing with cravings.

I don’t smoke cigarettes, and don’t intend to cut back on pipe smoking, I mostly have toque snuff, I’ve got quit and SP extra which I think are the strongest I have and then I have toasts and regular snuff like coke, peach, Christmas pudding, Berrwick brown, Ozona is probably the lowest nic. I can’t use american snuff really well I can buy some W.E. Garret sweet and mild so I might do that, but I just can’t use it I’ve learned techniques but using W.E. Garret scotch it just burns like none other and hurts.

Try a coarser, moister grind that you can take limitless amounts of. Samuel Gawith’s Kendal Brown is a good one, not as heavy or clumpy as the rappees, but just as flavorful and satisfying.

Try some of the African snuffs, like NTSU, Babaton, or Taxi. Liberal amounts of NTSU gives me one of the strongest nicotine hits of all the snuffs I’ve tried. W.E. Garret seems to satisfy my nicotine cravings, and I do have a high tolerance. Try snuffing it off the back of your hand, it seems to make it easier for me, or if you’re using a snuff spoon then just do a bunch of little bumps instead of a couple of large ones. If you’re having trouble taking Garret, try mixing it with something you find easy to take. Start by mixing a small amount into a snuff that is easy for you to take, then go half and half, then do 2/3’s Garret or until you get to a point where it doesn’t become uncomfortable to snuff it.

Try bigger pinches. A pea sized pinch means grab some snuff! It won’t hurt you.

Yeah any recommendations with the stuff I have, I have to say no to hoarding after a while I mean i’ve got like 220g of snuff, I don’t need more, but the african stuff sounds interesting as I understand it you stick it up your nose and it smells kind of like crap (that’s my experience with cigars described as earthy anyways worth a try though definitely). The toque menthol is moister, and I’m not sure if it’s moister but berrwick brown is easy to use and I’m liking it more every time.

I really think its the regularity that counts, not the supposed strength. To date there is no available data about snuff strengths so we tend to go off highly subjective personal feelings. A lot of people tend to think things like scotch or HDT are high strength when really its more to do with surface area and dryness giving the effect of potency. Get a snuff that you can easily use every 20 minutes and take it methodically over a couple of days and take no other form of tobacco. After that you should have abetter view of whether it will work well for you. We are all different and some people never quit their main form, whatever the nic content of the substitutes.

excellent points, snuffster. I’ve used snuff as an aid to stop chewing tobacco (which worked) plus it has definitely help me cut back on the amount of cigars I smoke, but will it ever make me stop smoking cigars entirely? Probably not, but that remains to be seen…

Yeah I’m not sure If I’ll quit using snus, but I think I have to quit it when I’m getting dental implants ( I have some missing teeth genetically), I never seemed to reduce my snus use I think part of it is oral fixation, when I run low I can use probably 1 portion every two and a half hours. I think the easiest might be quit for a while then use snuff, I’m pretty sure I could since I’ve done that before. The other thing is it’s more expensive I’ve probably spent 1,000 dollars on snus, dip, cigs(which I quit a little less than two two months ago), pipe, tobacco, and cigars, it’s all probably going to cost more later on as well which is partly why I use so much. Snuffster I agree two pinches of toque in each nostril is the same or more than a small amount of garrets that 90 percent goes down your throat if you take a similar sized pinch.

Im a high nic type of guy…and i find the best delivery method is a good box cart on the thumb nail…with kendal brown, black rappee, or kb special… and if you want a sting then take a pinch of tom buck …but the kendal browns are dark tobaccos, and they deleiver a good amount of nicotine…enough to make you chill for  a good while … i dont get as much of a hit of HDT or the SP’s but they seem to give an immediate better hit…but if you want to chill, take the darkest coarsest snuff you can find…and even get a bit of back drip going…as your throat can absorb too.

ps. i find the kendal brown, and kb special to seem heavier in nicotine than the black rappee.
