Picked this up for cheap and I know it has to be pretty old due to no UPC Code or warning on the label. I am thinking fifties or sixties? Anyone know? It is still in great shape and the tin has no rust. I have snuffed it on and off today and it is still very mild ![](https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xft1/v/t34.0-12/p206x206/11261080_10206977667460352_1057213280_n.jpg?oh=438da0acb5cdc7e300dd34f02572aee1&oe=5559DC84& gda =1431981372_32d772aa052c242847bdda675afae955)

@sandmountainslim - Tricky; this is the larger size salesman’s or display type ‘sample’ tins; as it says on the label. Although someone else on the forum might be wiser than me on this subject I don’t believe that these tins were required to have a health warning or barcode as they weren’t intended for retail sale. On retail tins I believe that barcoding didn’t appear on the tins until the early 70’s, heath warnings came some what later on (sadly this isn’t helping much for a sample tin). The one thing that might help you date it is that it’s a solid metal tin, a lot of the American Scotch manufacturers changed to cardboard or plastic packaging in the early 90’s. I’d ask someone like @chefdaniel or @Southern_Snuffster as they might well be able to give you a better steer than I. I do love the old American snuff tins though, they’re delightfully quaint and charming; I have a large collection of them

That was a great find. someone took great care preserving that. Vintage scotches do get better with age. The U.P.C. made its first commercial appearance on a package of Wrigley’s gum sold in Marsh’s Supermarket in Troy, Ohio in June 1974. Mandatory tobacco warnings mandate Comprehensive Smokeless Tobacco Health Education act. came into action 1986.

Thank you , Gentlemen It does have a pleasantness about it although smoother than some of the Bruton or Garrett I normally sniff. I am an Ex-Smoker who uses Snus during the workday but I like to have a nice vape or toot of Scotch Snuff when I come home in the evenings and relax. Nice to enjoy a vintage snuff possibly from plants grown before my 44 years
