This is not a question of how often should you snuff. That’s a matter of personal preference, and everyone’s different.
I’m just curious how often other people indulge in their snuff.
Personally, I mostly use snus while at work, because I can do so without being noticed. I take some snuff 3 or 4 times while at work…just for the sense of relaxation it gives me. At home, where I’m free to use more freely…I probably take a little snuff every half-hour or so. If I’m busy, then perhaps a little less often. If I find myself wanting to do it more often, I sort of reduce the amount I’m taking each time, just to sort of maintain a nice nicotine level.
Anyway, what are your habits? How often do you take a bit of snuff?
When I broke my chain-snusing habit with snuff it was multiple times an hour using huge cocaine type lines of Garrets Sweet Scotch, the rough way with lots of pain being in-experienced. Once I got more experienced in the habit I take a bump every 2 hours. However some days I snuff heavily…especially when that Mr.Snuff order is right around the corner. Probably ever 45 mins. I stay away from the high nic snuffs. I picked up the snuff habit to quit snusing, and I picked up snusing to quit smoking. For some odd reason snus was eating up my gums…I don’t know if anyone else has ran into this problem. I was using General white.
I’m also trying to reduce my use of snus. I don’t want to quit nicotine. But, I’ve really found myself enjoying snuff…while the snus is more of a habit. I don’t really enjoy it in the same way I’ve been enjoying the snuff. I’ve had trouble in the past with snus irritating my gums…but for whatever reason it doesn’t happen anymore.
Here some other thread on the subject. http://snuffhouse.com/discussion/10164/how-frequently-do-you-snuff/p1. The same questions comes around and goes around if the search feature worked you could had added to this post. But it’s ok to start new ones. The new members are the lifeblood of snuff house. Ask Away.
For me, after work and evening meal. Then I’m straight out of the blocks until a half hour before bed. When I’m drinking though beer and snuff go hand in hand.
At random - probably around 10-15 snuffs per day. I snuffed twice yesterday at work, which I don’t usually get around to at all - this is unfortunate, because my McChrystal’s Clove is perfect to have in the nose working at a nursing home and I wish I could be taking it constantly.
As someone with a long relationship with tobacco, and a fairly new relationship with snuff…it was good to read others’ frequency. I only actually personally know one other person that uses snuff, and they live 7 hours away. So, I don’t know what “normal” is exactly. This was helpful. Thank you!
@markstinson That’s what this community is all about! With frequency, I doubt a “normal” really exists. If I’m snusing, I use snuff every hour or so. If not, more like every 20 or 30 minutes.
Thanks, Hitsuzen. I’m in the same boat. With snus in, I snuff every 30 minutes to an hour. If I’m relaxing, and want to snuff more…I leave the snus out and snuff a bit more. It is sort of funny how much thought I will put into maintaining my nicotine levels at a comfortable level.
And roughly how much snuff do you take, daily or per dose, in weight or or desribed, perhaps resembling the rubber ends on a pencil. i take that much in total. perhaps six times a day.
My snuff desire seems to be highly variable. It was the same when I smoked, but if the desire overwhelmed I could be chain smoking and feel bad the next day, shorter of breath etc.
However, I can take snuff to my heart content and it’s still not taxing for me. I guess the days of heavy study when I partaked on our hobby the most I took snuff every 15 minutes or so- However, if doing physical work or at the gym I can abstain for one or two hours or take as little as three bumps of Viking Dark during the whole day.
No ill effects in the first scenario and no bad feelings or distracting cravings in the second. With cigarettes, everything was revolving around the habit. Aside from feeling a littlle bit sleepy if I don’t take snuff during the morning and the occasional clogged nose, no bad feelings arose from the absence or excess of snuff in my system.
@MarvinLapsus That’s a good point, about gym time. I know it’s weird, with tobacco being such a huge hobby of mine, but I’m a fitness and nutrition hobbyist too (I do strength training and jog), and after a decent workout I could go easily a couple hours with nothing at all. Eating better seems to delay nicotine desires too, which is cool because it brings it back to the enjoyment of the tobacco.
