How not to breath in snuff?

I am beginner snuff user and I am facing a huge problem: almost every time I take snuff, I breath some in my lungs, and lots of in my throat. And that is really disgusting. What do I do about it? How to only take snuff up my nostrils? What to do, when I feel snuff in my throat? P.S Everything is ok when I take very small amounts of snuff, but I really enjoy nicotine buzz from huge amounts of snuff

Take a breath into your lungs and hold it. While holding the breath snuff. That should keep it from going into your throat and lungs.

I had the same, so i switched to damper and/or coarser snuffs and now i don’t seem to get the problem.

are you a smoker or former smoker? If so you’re still growing back your cillia in your windpipe as well as damaged the hairs in your nose. That makes it easier to get anything in your throat. Excpet for things that someone might think are fun to be there. Like food going down and not up.

If you are craving nicotine at a high level, you might find using snus will take care of that, so you can then better enjoy small pinches of snuff. Otherwise, stick with it and you will find your technique will improve in time, as you develop breath control and fine tune your pinching method.

Just don’t breath in so hard of sniff too hard. I am just foundinding that sniffing very lightly, almost breathing normal whil slowly releasing a pinch of snuff makes it just as enjoyable with even more of the snuff’s esscence lingering longer.

I found new snuffers instinctively try to snort it in ehich causes the spluttering. Just take a slow breath in through your nose and all will be well.

@Nachman, @blacke66, and @bish777 have given you some solid advice. Some snuffs are rather forgiving (coarser, moister ones) and might give you a false sense of accomplishment. Avoid snorting, try “topping off” your lungs with air, place a pinch to a nostril or just outside, and gently inhale. A neat trick that I read on here a while back supposedly went like this: top off and begin inhaling before you ever bring the pinch near your nostril. Utilizing that trick, while seemingly awkward, definitely allows you to appreciate your snuff’s flavor while allowing the bite to creep up on you. Practice with menthols. Why? Even a small pinch, taken gently, will give itself away by the cool burn wherever it lands in your nostrils! If snuff hits the back of your throat, don’t worry about it. The control will come in time by applying proper technique. And don’t forget to drink plenty of water. It’s good for everything!

You will adjust to the lower level of nic in a few days. I use the blowhole technique where i sniff a short burst and cut it off in the back of my throat. I used to get snuff in my lungs but I learned how to snuff with practice. You will get it.

I don’t think it’s disgusting.

Nachman> Thank You, You helped me a lot. At first, I thought that I need to start snuffing with my lungs empty. Seems that was my problem… Juxtaposer> It is very bitter so its disgusting for me. bob> I am not smoker. I have tried different kind of smoking, but haven’t settled on. blacke66> I enjoy the smell of snuff, but when I try to breath very lightly, only small amounts of snuff gets in my nose, and when I snuff lightly, but repeatedly snuff goes slowly to my throat  rhsrhs > I am currently using strong menthol for everyday uses and it doesnt seem to give me problems. Its coarse also. But when I try to enjoy other flavors(which are much finer) they gets in my lungs very easily. Though, with Nachman`s advice I am almost good now

Several months in and I’m still working on my technique. Practice makes perfect and I’ve got a lot better since I first started.

Try my " method " http://snuffhouse.org/discussion/4464/easy-snuffing-i-got-it/#Item\_8 Even Dholakia white is not a problem anymore for me… Happy snuffing!

@Micheltn. I remember this post and use this method now for very fine snuffs, top tip.

Yes holding the pinch to the front realy helps me as well, but for the record it took me well over a year to get my sniff of snuff perfected.

You are right JohnDeere, I had the same time frame… about a year. I almost gave up on snuff, and only used Snus, but now I’ve found my new "method " I can finally really enjoy it, which was not the case with me when it kept hitting my throat. Except for the Poschle snuff etc, those were never a problem.

Glad to hear that your technique is improving. Keep snuffin’!
