I currently have an assortment of 20 varieties of snuff, and just ordered another 15. My wife seems to think the 20 different snuffs was too much (she doesn’t use snuff). How many different kinds do you keep on hand?

P

I currently have about 130 different varieties on hand. A bit out of control no doubt, but I like having a bit of everything around just in case somebody posts something about a particular snuff and it gives me the urge to have a pinch. Most of my snuffs are electrical taped shut, and stored in a ziplock baggie in a cool dark spot in my basement and I only visit them when I get that urge. I only keep about 10 snuffs upstairs at arms reach at a time, Right now they are in no particular order McChrystal’s O&G Toque Grapefruit Toque Cherry Toque St. Clements Toque Absinthe Spanish Jewel Rooster Magnet Spearmint Magnet Peach Wilson’s Prime Minister

R

I have around 30 different types in my stock.

L

I am the same as Roam, I have 25-30 varieties in my collection. Yeah in all honesty that probably is a bit much and I wish I hadn’t bought so much as i’m struggling to use it all! LOL

B

What you should worry about is too little snuff it’s a lot worse then too much.

W

I’ve got about 80 varieties. I’m not ordering more for quite a while, only my favourites when I run out.# Stefan

E

That’s what I’m trying to do at the moment, though I do seem to keep running out of the favourites! But the snuff mountain could do with some reduction.

S

In less than 2 months I’ve built my collection up to about 45 varieties, and counting with yesterday’s order. I’m gonna have to slow down here pretty soon though, the wife’s giving my collection the stink eye.

T

I have about 160 different snuffs but have around 200 total in the collection because there are some that I have 2 or 3 of. I’ve had great success in storing the snuff & keeping it fresh so I’m not worried about any going ‘stale’. I like to sample as many different snuffs as I can, its all part of the fun. And its a fairly cheap hobby when in comparison with other collecting and its not like I bought them all at once. And like Poo-Diddy, I like to keep these on hand because sometimes you get the urge for a certain snuff when someone starts talking about it and its great to already have it on hand. I would say you have too many when you run out of room to store the least used ones properly. Because you don’t want to build a collection just to let it go ‘stale’.

B

I like keep it pretty small myself but I figure if you are going to use it is not a waste.

T

fixin2, They both have good qualities in their own way. I do however tend to pinch the American styles more often as those are what I basically grew up on & they hit the spot. Levi Garrett & Rooster being two of my favorite snuffs. But there are plenty of international snuffs I use on a regular basis & thoroughly enjoy & make repeat purchases of. I like to mix it up so that I don’t get ‘burned out’ of any one particular snuff. Companies like Samuel Gawith, De Kralingse, Toque, Wilsons/F&T/Tranters, Dholakia all put out some great snuffs that I use regularly. Even Poschl has 2 or 3 that I like. Just depends on my mood.

M

32 diferant types with dupes of some. I started two months ago. I keep thinking each order will be the last of trying new flavors. Then I read this forum and I want to try more. I can see me ordering Dholakia and some American snuffs soon. Right now I have most of the standard pocshl and one of each Toque.

B

That is what I do when I have a snuff that is almost empty and not worth pinching from. Suprisingly it is never bad and sometimes makes a scent that seems impossibly amazing (like wow not only is that really good but it smells like jagermeister yet it was just three diffrent menthol snuffs).

T

bob that is what I do as well. But its never much that I put in, maybe 2-10 pinches at a time. Sometimes its just whats stuck in the bottom of tin when empty. I have a small glass jar/bottle that seals good that I have been putting snuff in for about 2 years now. I don’t put any menthol snuffs in this jar. The jar holds about an ounce & is about 1/2 full. Once the jar is 3/4 full I will let sit for another year or two before I use it. I have sampled it and its great with a flavor impossible to reproduce since I don’t keep track of which snuff & how much of each is in this jar. I haven’t shaken the jar yet so there are a lot of different layers of slight color difference kind of like a sand art bottle.

J

The idea of too much snuff is absurd.

P

I haven’t really counted, but I would guess I’ve got about 30 different varieties, maybe more, and I’ve only been snuffing for a couple of months. It’s hard to resist the urge to buy more when there are so many I haven’t tried yet. I suspect I will slow down eventually, and only restock my favorites, but right now sampling a lot of different snuffs is a big part of the fun.

T

I only have two, and I only use one because the other one sucks. I need to step up my game, I know.

N

I have about 30 sitting around the house and another 20 in the fridge and half a bin liner in the freezer. No idea how many that is.about 700 grams is schmalzer and about 20 tins of American Scotch.

T

Snuffs are easy and fun to collect, with their world types and various kinds, it’s easy to want one of each. I have gone through times when I had a whole lot. But I condensed mine, to just ones I really like, or just really want, I’m not as OCD with it anymore. I’m mainly now just wanting hard to get Indian snuffs, for the challenge.

C

I would have to estimate that I have close to 500 tins of snuff, not including bulk.

B

You have too much snuff when someone could steal a few tins and it would be a long time before you noticed. For some people that is 2 tins for others it’s in the thousands. To people with big collections don’t forget to put them in your will.

M

When you have to take out a second mortgage to pay for your next order?

A

I’ve about 10 different snuffs at time and more than happy with that amount. Never been into hoarding things, more like being confident I’m able to just take what needed if going gets tough.

W

I really do have more snuff than I can consume, but I’ll be damned if I can figure out which one i could do without! And I just got started on the SG tins. But the snuff collection is nothing compared to my fishing problem.

B

40+ assorted varieties.

R

When PACT was going into effect, I bought enough to last until the election in January 2013. Recently, however, I am thinking that might not be enough.

A

@Whalen You collect fish? Wouldn’t like to be your neighbour.

W

I do collect fish! I collect them about twice a week and place them lovingly in a vacuum bag in my chest freezer. I prefer striped bass, and eat very fresh fish twice a week, besides, all I can smell around here is snuff!

A

@Whalen Sorry forgot freezer is invented! I suppose you smoke fish yourself too, or rot it like they still do in Sweden. Here in Ireland fishing is more a sport, of course you catch edible fish, but pricewise shops are better option, permits are quite expensive. In Scandinavia and Eastern Europe many people hunt, fish and gather berries and mushroom for staple food because they still can. We don’t have to opportinuty any more.

W

@AllanH The only fish we smoke is the oily bluefish, they are a pest this time of year , breaking the surface by the hundreds slashing through the bait fish in the Chesapeake bay, the striped bass are following along, I specialize in catching them with both fly fishing gear and with a technique we call LTJ, light tackle jigging, Light weight spinning gear with light line and 3/4 ounce jigs, either metal , feather, or soft plastic. We are allowed ten blues, and two striper per day, each. We usually catch hundreds in a good day. I have a boat license that allows any one on the boat to catch fish, it costs $50 a year. But in all honesty , the cost per pound is astronomical, Cost of boat, tow vehicle, gas, gear, insurance. But it is my true passion, I am, if nothing else, a degenerate fisherman. My snuff obsession pales in comparison. I have more invested in one good fly rod than all of my snuff, But I have really enjoyed snuff as a hobby. I I live on a river (Potomac) and spent all my fishing at the Bay which is 85 miles away, go figure, but I have always thought I should start a guide business for British anglers, I have right in my back yard hundreds of carp that go in excess of 35 pounds, They are almost impossible to land normally, we fish for Small mouth bass with 6 pound test. The carp here they are considered a trash fish and ignored. I understand that carp fishing is focused on there, and the carp are not normally that size and number. I find the carp the wariest and hardest fighting of them all. We just do not target them, although there is a fellow who fishes with long match rods and secret bait, he is a very happy angler, he is the only one I know who fishes that way, I studied the technique and found the whole English style fascinating.

N

Here in Canada carp fishing is frowned upon too but I enjoy it. Carp are smart, wary and very powerful. Not a 10 min walk from my house is a nice little pond loaded with carp that I have been fishing since I was a kid. They only get about 8-12 lbs there but they will still straighten or even break quality hooks if they drag isn’t set right, the biggest I’ve caught there was just over 18 lbs. I fish then with medium-light action tackle, a medium-light action 7 foot rod with 6 lb test line, it takes a good 10 or 15 minutes to land one, thats how you learn to really fight a fish instead of just overpowering them and dragging them in.
