How much nicotine is in the normall and strong snuffs? I am wondering because I smoke just under a pack a day usually of all different kinds of tobacco I buy online. WHen I sniff something like Ozona Cherry I don’t notice any nicotine at all, when I sniff Rooster I notice it but it doesn’t really hit me like a good cigarettes can. Just wondering how to gauge some of the snuffs I have to a cigarettes.
Its reported that a pinch of dip held in the mouth for up to 30 minutes is equal to 2-3 cigarettes. I know there is a fact on dry snuff but I can’t remember where it was.
Part of the buzz experienced with smoking is that fact that you are altering the actual air your body needs to live, kind of like an asphyxiation buzz. I know when I’m up in the high country staying at the cabin which is around 9000 feet or up around some of the other lakes around the 9500-10,000 foot elevation, I get a nic rush very very very easily. Same goes with the effects of alcohol. So like with smoking when your body is starving for oxygen, nicotine has a greater effect.
Yeah, you are always going to get a bigger buzz from a cigarette, with the hot smoke and all plus don’t forget there have been a few thousand other chemicals isolated in various amounts in tobacco smoke that you aren’t getting with snuff - they are bound to have some kind of effect, probably any drug that gives you a buzz is also poisening you to an extent. Snuff is safer because it poisens you less I would have thought.
I find I get the biggest buzz from snuff or snus though when I used to smoke I used ryo mainly american spirits and I think that the chemical monkeying that tobacco companies do with cigerattes definately effects the way a person will react to nicoteen in the future.
In large amounts snuff will give you a decent buzz. But if I really want a buzz I’ll dip.
Well it was said that Marlboro had ammonia or something added to increase the nicoine uptake - Big Tobacco must have done a lot of shady things before the spotlight went on them
Im currently working my way through a tub of ‘Taxi Extra Strong Red Snuff’ give it a go if you want a noticeble nicotine hit.
Stu90, do you take any other forms of nicotine such as ciggerettes? Just wondering what you would compare the nicotine hit to. Also how much do you take before it hits you? Any other of the weaker brands do the same thing to you?
Bespoke G&T is a good uplifting energy snuff. It always wakes me up and gives me a little energy and alertness.
Where is that stuff sold?
yes i smoke awell, around 10-15 filterd roll-ups a day - for me the Taxi has a nic hit like the fist ciggerette of the day, i take about a pea sized pinch for each nostral as its a very rough grind the nicotine hit is almost instant .Currently my everyday snuff is Wilson of Sharrow ‘Crumbs of Comfort’ also have some ‘Gold Label’ on the go as well, while i find the Gold Label a little bit stronger than the Crumbs of Comfort these don’t really give me a noticeable nicotine hit. I got the Taxi Extra Strong Red Snuff online from mysmokingshop
You can get Bespoke Gin & Tonic at 2 places. Bespoke @ Snuff Store Bespoke @ Mars Cigars
Thanks for that article stl34, that is reallly interesting. What I got from it among other things is that a daily snuff users can reach the same if not more nicotine in his/her blood then a smoker can. What does confuse me is why is there such a big difference between a daily users and a occasional user. It seems the more you use snuff the better your body becomes at absorbing it. So a new user might not get the full effects as a long time user, but he/she will after time. Am I getting that right?
I’ve noticed two things that make me think useing snuff increase blood flow to the nose. First the longer I use it the more acute my sense of smell becomes which can happen with increased blood flow. I’ve also noticed that I get more kick out of pinch then I used too when I had started useing snuff.
You know I have only been using for a little while and the same thing has started happening to me as well. Today at work I had such a sense of smell, I was amazed. I was smelling different things, as well as being to pick out different smells. Weird but true.
I was definately smoking hand rolled cigerattes. Though now I use snus which gives me more of a kick then cigerattes did.
So far I haven’t been successful with using snus. When using it I generate a lot of saliva. The reflex is to swallow it (bad idea) and I don’t like the idea of having to spit all the time.
I thought the great thing about snus is you didn’t have to spit?
it is.
It definitely makes a difference between having it in the lower lip and the upper lip. When in the lower lip it just mixes with your normal saliva & you feel more of a need to spit. But when in the upper lip you don’t seem to get the same need.
saliva is pumped in through the lower part of the mouth mainly. I know because I just had a saliva gland infection and could in the worse way feel where the saliva was actualy entering my mouth.
I have never smoked a cigarette that came close to the nicotine amperage in a couple good pinches of real strong snuff. The effect for me is a lot better without having to deal with the whole smoking thing, which i have had to severely limit. I have a smokes now and then, and i keep some cigars on hand. But there is no urgent need to smoke. I don’t have to have cigarettes available to me 24/7. Snuff has become my daily go to for nicotine. When I first got into tobacco, as a teenager, what attracted me was the smell of the spicy pipe and cigar tobaccos - before they burned. A very indulgent clerk would allow me to spend a half hour in the humidor room and purchase one or two cigars or one of their house pipe blends. I loved the smell of that room! Unfortunately the perfume of the tobacco leaf is lost, or I should say changed radically by combustion. And the smoke on your palate and in your nose affects your sense of smell to a huge degree. With a fine snuff you get that “nose in the humidor” perfume in a form that persists, even as it evolves with moisture and warmth. It is still there for a time even after the snuff is expelled. After a year and a half of using snuff, I am well satisfied with my new friend and if I want to feel the nicotine, there are many reliable grinds for me. The variety of my collection is a wonderful source of entertainment. I have something for every whim. i count myself as truly blessed.
stitch fully agreed on that. I definately think one of the greatest things about snuff is the vast variety that is afforably aquired. I find snuff so much more boring and less enjoyable when I’am down to two or three types where as just having four makes for a wonderfull time.
Stitch, A friend of mine who is a real heavy cigarette smoker had his first pinch of snuff yesterday, and would agree with you. It just happened to be Taxi Menthol as I’m trying out the Taxi and Magnet blends… But that’s a different story! Anyhow, he did the usually sneezing thing on first go, but was dipping in and out of the various Taxi blends that I had, deciding which he liked best whilst the dreadful England football team display was on. He reckons that it gave him a real nicotine kick, he didn’t leave the room for a smoke whilst the match was on (he usually would have done) and he also said that he was getting ‘head rushes’ from it. After the match he ended up taking the tin of Taxi Menthol home with him!
Nosebag, Wow that’s a very good first experience considering Dingler products are notoriously heavy duty. I have some menthol magnet, and I think the notoriety is justified! Sounds like your friend may be a convert. It’s fun introducing smokers to snuff!
I find too when snuff isnt’ giving me a nic rush that doing a few more pinches will chinch the deal.
