How Many "Snuff only" snuffsters out there?

I used to be a cigarette smoke, many years ago, and for 3 years. Last year I wanted to give tobbacco another go, but without doing my lungs in, so I toured pipe smoking, cigars and dipping for a month or so before trying, and loving nasal snuff. It was another month that I decided for myself that cigars and pipes just weren’t for me. “smoke” isn’t for me. I still enjoy the smell of someone else smoking, but there it ends for me. What about you?

I used to smoke cigarettes and a pipe years ago, but I graduated from being an “ex-smoker” to becoming a “non-smoker” over 25 years or so before I ever tried snuff.

No Way, My days are numbered and I will continue to enjoy tobacco in every form. Less store bought cigarettes unless there are nat sherman havana ovals or cigarettellos.

I still smoke my pipe every so often, but I could see myself quitting pipes in favor of exclusively using snuff. While I don’t think either are particularly harmful, smoking a pipe definitely has more negative health impacts than snuff. I really enjoy pipes and pipe-smoking but I do see myself eventually stopping or at least drastically cutting down my intake. Snuff is fun, less work than pipes, and doesn’t appear to be as harmful. I do agree with @basement_shaman though, a Nat Sherman doesn’t hurt here and there :stuck_out_tongue: The cigarettellos truly are amazing.

I smoked as a teen, up until I joined the Marine Corps. We ran so much that I gave up smoking and started dipping. I dipped tobacco for 5 or 6 years, then I discovered Swedish Snus and used that for a couple years. I am now trying to switch from snus to snuff. It can be difficult because snus is so convenient, but as long as I can use a bullet for snuff, especially at work, I think I can get to where I only use snuff. That is my goal.

I started using snuff last May 2012 and my cigarette smoking has dropped to less than half of what it was. I am confident I can drop the cigs all together by summer of this year. Switching from Marlboro to RYO with pure tobacco (American Spirit) has also helped. The chemical withdrawal of Marlboro was not easy. Snuff is awesome and I really enjoy it!

I gave up cigs 6 years ago since when I have smoked cigars and pipes. Came back to snuff nearly 4 months ago and since then my pipe smoking has - completely unintentionally - dropped to a bowl every few weeks. I still reach for a cigar when I am stressed but that has dropped to about half as many as it was prior to snuff. Since I have a good collection of pipes and tobacco - and thoroughly enjoy a pipe when I am in the mood - I intend to keep smoking pipes. But I suspect that the cigar consumption - which I wanted to reduce - will continue to drop down to less than one per day. So I am not snuff only but it has very rapidly become my preferred and primary form of tobacco consumption.

I have always only used snuff

I only use snuff. I used to smoke a pipe (or several really) but stopped because of my young children, I couldn’t be bothered to go outside to smoke. The pipe was only a rare thing anyway, but I’ve been snuffing since I was 16.

I’m a snuff only guy, and proud of it  Completely gave up cigarettes six months ago.

I started out dipping Scotch snuffs and later switched to sniffing them. I should have stuck with snuff, but I started smoking cigarettes and pretty much abandoned snuff altogether. I would pick snuff back up later, but being at the mercy of local retailers (no Internet shopping at the time) it wasn’t always available. When I did have snuff, my cig smoking would drop. Now that the availability problem is solved, my smoking has dropped to almost nothing. I still smoke a pipe and have no intention to go completely smoke free. Currently, I smoke a pipeful per day and the rest of my waking hours I use snuff (still haven’t figured out how to snuff in my sleep). So I’m not snuff only, but very close to it.

I use tobacco (my favorite plant) in all it’s forms, except additive-laden pre rolled cigs. Life is short, so much tobacco…

Only snuff for the last few years, would love to smoke a pipe but I would have to get divorced first.

I used cigarettes (over a pack a day) for about five years before quitting the 1st time. Last year I started smoking part-time (only at home) before a fateful business trip took me to Minneapolis and my first tin of snuff. I haven’t had a pre-rolled cigarette in the last six months and only smoke a hand-rolled Drum cigarette about once a month. I would say that I’m now strictly snuffing, though, I too am intrigued by pipe smoking. As one who is working to complete his Ph.D. in psychology I feel pipe smoking would be most appropriate. Can anyone offer any suggestions for a good beginner pipe and some tobacco that, while complex, would not be overpowering?

well, it’s a little like asking what snuff should I try first…there is so much variety the only way to find what you like is to try the different types and decide for yourself. That said, I’d suggest a British Lakeland flake of some kind for an aromatic, something like Rum Flake or Conniston Cut Plug; for an English something like Dunhill Early Morning or Penzance (if you can find it), for a Virginia or Virginia/perique (sweet when smoked slowly with subtle complexity and spicy thanks to the perique) Hearth and Home AJ’s Vaper, for a Danish (with a cookie/honey top note) perhaps Orlik Golden Slices; for a drug store burley Prince Albert, The list goes on and on. A good beginner pipe would be Stanwell brand, perhaps a plain billiard or if you favor a bent a Peterson #999. Have fun.

Only snuff since almost now 3 months

Snuff is my primary source of nicotine. I smoke pipes, but less frequently since the cold and windy winter can really mess up my smoke.

Also, could you imagine the world of snuff with no added flavorings? It’s fascinating to me how it all comes together…

Working on joining the Snuff Only Club

I’d like to be snuff only. I can be if I really work at it. I certainly prefer it to any other tobacco. Snus, however, is just too damn convenient. If I’m busy, meaning my hands are busy, I chain snus. I snus in the shower. I snus while working. I snus while riding my bike. I even snus in bed. I tried to have snuff replace that before bed cigarette, but I wake up with it in my throat, so snus works there as well. I’ve cut out the smoking at least, but will indulge on occasion -usually a pipe. I wouldn’t mind so much except that my gums are in bad shape, but they were long before snus. The dentist says is mostly hereditary, but smoking played a major roll since it deteriorates oral bone mass rapidly. Still its a vast improvement over the past.
