I used to be a cigarette smoke, many years ago, and for 3 years. Last year I wanted to give tobbacco another go, but without doing my lungs in, so I toured pipe smoking, cigars and dipping for a month or so before trying, and loving nasal snuff. It was another month that I decided for myself that cigars and pipes just weren’t for me. “smoke” isn’t for me. I still enjoy the smell of someone else smoking, but there it ends for me. What about you?

H

I used to smoke cigarettes and a pipe years ago, but I graduated from being an “ex-smoker” to becoming a “non-smoker” over 25 years or so before I ever tried snuff.

B

No Way, My days are numbered and I will continue to enjoy tobacco in every form. Less store bought cigarettes unless there are nat sherman havana ovals or cigarettellos.

M

I still smoke my pipe every so often, but I could see myself quitting pipes in favor of exclusively using snuff. While I don’t think either are particularly harmful, smoking a pipe definitely has more negative health impacts than snuff. I really enjoy pipes and pipe-smoking but I do see myself eventually stopping or at least drastically cutting down my intake. Snuff is fun, less work than pipes, and doesn’t appear to be as harmful. I do agree with @basement_shaman though, a Nat Sherman doesn’t hurt here and there The cigarettellos truly are amazing.

D

I smoked as a teen, up until I joined the Marine Corps. We ran so much that I gave up smoking and started dipping. I dipped tobacco for 5 or 6 years, then I discovered Swedish Snus and used that for a couple years. I am now trying to switch from snus to snuff. It can be difficult because snus is so convenient, but as long as I can use a bullet for snuff, especially at work, I think I can get to where I only use snuff. That is my goal.

P

I started using snuff last May 2012 and my cigarette smoking has dropped to less than half of what it was. I am confident I can drop the cigs all together by summer of this year. Switching from Marlboro to RYO with pure tobacco (American Spirit) has also helped. The chemical withdrawal of Marlboro was not easy. Snuff is awesome and I really enjoy it!

C

I gave up cigs 6 years ago since when I have smoked cigars and pipes. Came back to snuff nearly 4 months ago and since then my pipe smoking has - completely unintentionally - dropped to a bowl every few weeks. I still reach for a cigar when I am stressed but that has dropped to about half as many as it was prior to snuff. Since I have a good collection of pipes and tobacco - and thoroughly enjoy a pipe when I am in the mood - I intend to keep smoking pipes. But I suspect that the cigar consumption - which I wanted to reduce - will continue to drop down to less than one per day. So I am not snuff only but it has very rapidly become my preferred and primary form of tobacco consumption.

T

I have always only used snuff

K

I only use snuff. I used to smoke a pipe (or several really) but stopped because of my young children, I couldn’t be bothered to go outside to smoke. The pipe was only a rare thing anyway, but I’ve been snuffing since I was 16.

B

I’m a snuff only guy, and proud of it Completely gave up cigarettes six months ago.

F

I started out dipping Scotch snuffs and later switched to sniffing them. I should have stuck with snuff, but I started smoking cigarettes and pretty much abandoned snuff altogether. I would pick snuff back up later, but being at the mercy of local retailers (no Internet shopping at the time) it wasn’t always available. When I did have snuff, my cig smoking would drop. Now that the availability problem is solved, my smoking has dropped to almost nothing. I still smoke a pipe and have no intention to go completely smoke free. Currently, I smoke a pipeful per day and the rest of my waking hours I use snuff (still haven’t figured out how to snuff in my sleep). So I’m not snuff only, but very close to it.

_

I use tobacco (my favorite plant) in all it’s forms, except additive-laden pre rolled cigs. Life is short, so much tobacco…

K

Only snuff for the last few years, would love to smoke a pipe but I would have to get divorced first.

S

I used cigarettes (over a pack a day) for about five years before quitting the 1st time. Last year I started smoking part-time (only at home) before a fateful business trip took me to Minneapolis and my first tin of snuff. I haven’t had a pre-rolled cigarette in the last six months and only smoke a hand-rolled Drum cigarette about once a month. I would say that I’m now strictly snuffing, though, I too am intrigued by pipe smoking. As one who is working to complete his Ph.D. in psychology I feel pipe smoking would be most appropriate. Can anyone offer any suggestions for a good beginner pipe and some tobacco that, while complex, would not be overpowering?

M

well, it’s a little like asking what snuff should I try first…there is so much variety the only way to find what you like is to try the different types and decide for yourself. That said, I’d suggest a British Lakeland flake of some kind for an aromatic, something like Rum Flake or Conniston Cut Plug; for an English something like Dunhill Early Morning or Penzance (if you can find it), for a Virginia or Virginia/perique (sweet when smoked slowly with subtle complexity and spicy thanks to the perique) Hearth and Home AJ’s Vaper, for a Danish (with a cookie/honey top note) perhaps Orlik Golden Slices; for a drug store burley Prince Albert, The list goes on and on. A good beginner pipe would be Stanwell brand, perhaps a plain billiard or if you favor a bent a Peterson #999. Have fun.

S

Only snuff since almost now 3 months

T

Snuff is my primary source of nicotine. I smoke pipes, but less frequently since the cold and windy winter can really mess up my smoke.

N

Also, could you imagine the world of snuff with no added flavorings? It’s fascinating to me how it all comes together…

Working on joining the Snuff Only Club

X

I’d like to be snuff only. I can be if I really work at it. I certainly prefer it to any other tobacco. Snus, however, is just too damn convenient. If I’m busy, meaning my hands are busy, I chain snus. I snus in the shower. I snus while working. I snus while riding my bike. I even snus in bed. I tried to have snuff replace that before bed cigarette, but I wake up with it in my throat, so snus works there as well. I’ve cut out the smoking at least, but will indulge on occasion -usually a pipe. I wouldn’t mind so much except that my gums are in bad shape, but they were long before snus. The dentist says is mostly hereditary, but smoking played a major roll since it deteriorates oral bone mass rapidly. Still its a vast improvement over the past.

B

I am snuff only snuffer. I used to be a pipe and cigarette smoker. After I quit for a couple of months I really missed tobacco and knew that I would go back, so I tried an old tin of snuff I had and instantly knew I had found the answer for me.

S

I started smoking when I was around 14. Quit when my first kid came along at 29. I’m now 34, don’t smoke but got into snuff about a month ago.

L

I am an exclusive snuff user. I did try a pipe ( my husband bought me a lovely churchwarden) but I absolutely prefer snuff.

H

I used to smoke a pipe (or several really) but stopped because of my young children, I couldn’t be bothered to go outside to smoke.

If I ever smoked a pipe I’d only ever smoke outside, leaning languidly against the wall in my three-piece suit, raising my trilby in a suave, chap-like manner to all the lovely ladies as they walk past - “well, helllooo”. Oh, I say. I’ve never smoked, mum always let us have a try of her ciggie if we wanted, which put us all off, but I’ve loved snuff since I tried it as a teenager. Keep forgetting about it and coming back to it, into it big time at the moment.

B

I’m a snuff only guy, gave up cigarettes about five months ago and started using snuff about a month ago to make sure i didn’t go back to them. So far, so good!

J

Working on it After smoking a pack a day for 20 years, I quit the death sticks in March of last year to devote myself full time to pipes, cigars and snuff. The more I snuffed though, the less I smoked, and it’s gotten to the point where I don’t smoke (bowl or cigar) more than 2-3 times per week.

A

I am now but not through any good intentions. I kicked cigarettes and decided I would have the odd pipe or cigar but the longer I use snuff as the main tobacco in my life the rarer my other usage is. I am a born to smoke, dyed in the wool tobacco lover with a very high tolerance to nicotine and an addictive personality so no one was more surprised than me but as soon as my snuff habit edged up to 10g a day - as it was always going to - I stopped smoking. Quite weird not thinking about smoking actually. I think you enjoy the flavour a lot more than when it’s smoked as I still chew and dip on occasion, but I could happily kick that, I just have a load of cope in the freezer.

C

I’d be happy to use snuff only but I like snus as well. I quit 25 years of smoking with snus and came to snuff shortly after that. I think I’ll be using both together for some time. I’ve sworn off lighting tobacco on fire but some of the pipe smokers on this forum are tempting me lol! :-?

T

I was a smoker for 25 years, cut down considerably about 4 years ago with the aid of snuff, and stopped completely with snus 3 years ago. I have a couple of e-cigs that I use sometimes but apart from the very odd cigar I don’t burn my tobacco any more. Have thought about a pipe, but I don’t think I’m going there just yet. Smokeless rules!

B

@toffeenose, nice to see you back around. You were missed.

T

Hi @bigmick! Thanks for the welcome, I missed you guys too.

D

Snuff all the time at home or friends houses. Snus at work and while I am out in public. One day I will transition to snuff only, work shouldn’t be to hard. I need to get a tiny mirror to carry around so I can check my nose so I wont be walking around with brown hanging out.

N

I start school tomorrow and it’s a ‘tobacco free campus’ well I found out that means I could get a fine walking around campus taking a pinch. Rediculous!

S

I only tend to smoke cigs when I’m drinking and I want to try snus real bad.

L

I started to smoke cigarettes for the kick with not quite 14. Gauloises bleu, no Filter. Within a year or so, I was up to 40 to 50 tubes a day and kept this up until age 32 when I quit. I started snuff with about 16, for the fun and ritual of it and have been snuffing ever since. Four to five pinches a day max, extensive periods (years) overseas with no snuff at all. The two things seem not to have the slightest thing to do with each other. Ah, yes, I am now 58 and do not intend to quit snuff. As little as my second lifelong infatuation, chinese tea. The two are a perfect match. As for my third habit, obsession or whatever, please allow me to remain silent. With my respects, I remain Patrick B. Ludwig

M

I use only snuff…nothing can be compared with it…I used to smoke cigs ages ago…then pipe…but snuff rules…It is pure pleasure…no harm…very personal and intimate…

L

i only snuff for 4 years. Before that i smoked many years. Hokka, pipe and maras (made of nicotiana rustica used like snus) took my time for an other many years. God bless now i only snuff.

S

Only snuff and snus for me. I don’t do smoke.

M

I am almost ready to join this group

B

Glad to hear that, @MattheFox

H

Well, there are a lot of baccy-free snuffs, most based on glucose, but Molens Potpourri No.1 is nice, that’s based around spices and very enjoyable. Or, you could take in the Dholakia White I’ve heard so much about, and just tell them it’s cocaine. :))

M

@nosemboss put your snuff in a vitamin bottle and explain that it the only way you can take them because you can not swallow pills

C

@nosemboss That’s a pretty harsh policy. I’m sure you can sneak snuff in without attracting any unwanted attention. A bullet would probably come in very handy. As long as you don’t reek of smoke you should be fine.

D

I smoked cigs for a few years in the early 80’s, quit in June of '84, experimented with pipes, cigars, and dip…didn’t really care enough about them to keep it up. So yeah, just snuff for me. And malt whisky, of course. That’s enough in the way of bad habits to keep me amused

S

I used to smoke cigarettes and pipes, used snuss also but for the last two years snuff only and I’m feeling good about it

L

I only consume snuff. I’ve never smoked in my whole life and I won’t change this. Actually I hate the smell of cigarettes and it gives me headache.

U

I smoked heavily for years - since I took to snuff a few months ago I don’t even think about it anymore. For some reason I don’t even feel inclined to go to the pub anymore. Definitely snuff only for me…bring it on!

H

Pretty much snuff only, I have a pipe every once in a while but not very often at all. Also occasionally snus and very occasionally American moist snuffs but those are both just varieties of snuff anyway.

M

This is the hardest group to be loyal to but also the one with the greatest rewards Hats off to the snuff only folks

M

I have never smoked a cigarette in my life. Snuff only.

E

Currently, I smoke a pipeful per day and the rest of my waking hours I use snuff (still haven’t figured out how to snuff in my sleep).

I’ve had the secret for years now. Just hang on to a bullet or something that you can operate with 1 hand and won’t spill when you go to bed. I use a Packard’s Club box and it works GREAT! Take some before you fall asleep, and every time you wake up, and eventually you’ll end up using it without even waking up. But I am a member of the club. I smoked (a LOT) for about 8 years but gave it up almost 15 years ago. Skoal spearmint really helped me quit smoking. They seem to have drastically changed the recipe for it, as it is NOTHING like I remember back in high school. I dipped on and off for years and haven’t done it for a while. I never knew snuff existed until maybe about 7 or 8 years ago. I don’t remember what I tried first, but if I had never come across Packard’s Club I probably would have given up on snuff. It’s not my favorite, but I do really like it. And as you can already tell by my previous posts I am crazy about the dispenser. Sorry if I seem repetitive about it. I’ll try not to mention it so much lol. I just wish others would make a box similar to it. The only other snuffs I could find in stores were Railroad Mills (plain and sweet) and Tube Rose. I remember getting a 1.15oz tin of each for $3 a pop in New York.

H

Yeah Eric Packard’s Club was one of the first European snuffs I ever used and I remember the container being convenient, the snuff itself wasn’t bad either IIRC. I usually keep a tin of snuff next to my bed and take a pinch whenever I wake up, gives me wild dreams.

E

I’ve read a lot of cases of snuff causing wild/weird/vivid/crazy/exciting dreams. I have weird enough dreams already so I wouldn’t notice if it caused any more.

P

I usually eat weird things to give me wild dream- italian sausage usually works wonders. I have smoked for…well…ever. Since 12-13? I have had periods where i quit, usually not lasting more than three or four months. This last one was a state of mental anguish, i almost could not function. So, i choose to smoke, Whole Leaf RYO at this point. Primarly because it good, secondly because it affordable and fun. I guess i just need freebased nicotine, which i have accepted. Other than that, dip, snus, snuff, pipe, hookah on ocasion, usually when friends are over. Always have a roll of Cope on hand, snus when work gets too crazy for anything else, snuff when it suits me, pipe and snuff to relax at home. I must say, since i scratched my hookah itch, and have pretty much nailed down my favorite snuffs, pipe is progressing into my next money pit. So yeah, i’m not really a “snuff only type” of guy. I’m more of a “Tobacco!? What have you got?” type of guy.

E

I had an Italian sausage sandwich a few hours ago. I wonder if it’ll affect my dreams. heheh I used to roll my own Drum once in a while but didn’t care much for it. I was mostly a menthol man. I also smoked a corncob pipe for a couple weeks in high school. I loved the smell and taste but it wasn’t my pipe. The owner took it back and I never bought my own. btw, would trying the Oliver Twist sampler that came free with my MS order void my club membership?

J

I enjoy some snus from time to time, but it’s getting harder to get the ones I like now, so I’ll probably go back to snuff only for the time being. I’ve only smoked the once, and it was a cigar that my brother gave me. It was pretty good, but it made me realise that smoking isn’t really for me. I don’t think I’d buy my own cigars anytime soon, but I wouldn’t say no if he offered me another, haha.

N

I stopped smoking tobacco more than 10 years ago. I started nasal snuff some weeks ago by curiosity and have no intention to start smoking tobacco again or any other tobacco consumption than nasal snuff.

N

Alright @Nosy, Welcome!

N

@nosemboss thanks for your friendly welcome :-bd

_

I haven’t smoked cigs in over 11 years…and was tobacco / nicotine free since than ( smoked 15 years easy ) just tried snuff for the first time 2 months ago and most say it is the most enjoyable habit I have ever tried ( we won’t go into what snuff replaced) but it was noting short of a miracle for me…

N

Wishing u the best @Aanycaards , welcome!

S

Never smoked cigaretes but chew/snuss/snuff and occassional pipe tobacco.

P

recently quit cigs, but still enjoy a pipe or cigar everynow and then. Lately I’ve been more interested in having a snuff that the others, but not giving them up…

P

I’m using snuff, only, having recently cleaned and packed my pipes away. I admit, I may go back occasionally but, for now, I’m very happy taking only snuff.

A

Was a 3-4 pack a day smoker for many years with the occasional 2-4 years off. Have done snuff off and on for over 40 years. Last time I gave up cigs was 5 years ago and increased my snuff consumption. Have some vintage pipes: charatan and dunhill, but if I smoke them I will start inhaling and then it’s cigs again. Have chewed tobacco…Am the only person I know to turn down genuine pre Castro cigars.
