so far I given 4 pinches out and 2 have come back for more
Ive given out loads of pinches to most of my family and friends over the years. One brother could never get used to it but my other is now a casual snuffer when he meets me. In all that time - near on three decades - I think only two people took it up, and as we were all part of the heavy metal scene at the time I think they only did it to be crazy.
I have sent several tins to friends who snus, but never given a pinch in person.
I’ve given out a few pinches. I’m the only person in this area, I believe, that uses nasal snuff. Most people that I talk to about snuff don’t even know you could sniff tobacco up your nose. A couple dippers I work with will ask me for a pinch or two if they run out. Makes em sneeze like hell. I’ve never turned anybody on to it really, but I’ve only been snuffn for a couple months yet…
Very close to getting my younger brother hooked…getting him on the ToqueQuit to start off and off the cigs …
i got a dude at work hooked on snuff and on SG’s golden glow. he had bought a canister of levi but was doing it wrong. he actually was snorting it, with the obvious result being: this is not for me. lol i had to school him. he had no idea regarding the wonders of european snuffs.
My sister has had a few pinches and likes it
Most of my smoking (and a few curious non-smoking) friends have been offered pinches; some have started asking for a pinch, most just try it the once, but two or three have actually started buying their own. On Friday a friend over from Paris tried some Sturco, she liked it so much I gave her the tin.
I usually pass around pinches and I’ve had quite a lot of takers but most only try it once or twice , and usually when they’re drunk. So far I’ve given out about 10 tins to people that seemed interested: Three were to complete strangers. Two of them asked me to buy more for them. They use it occasionally. One’s a smoker the other one never used tobacco before. Another snuffed his way through a tin and stopped. One actually quit smoking for about a month using snuff , then relapsed into smoking and gave up on snuff due to chronic congestion (poschl , what can i say ) I’ve met only two other people that used snuff “independently of me”, way out on the other side of the country. One of them used to act like a regular tony montana with the stuff. I have myself received 2 tins of snuff from friends that knew i liked it.
My friends are chicken.
my granddaughter took a little snuff the other day, but all I had with me was Garrett. I may have done more harm than good.
@ Carol "My friends are chicken. " Possibly cut their snuff sample 50/50 with a bit of grit?
Related thread.
all of them
Most of my friends eschew tobacco–but still I offer if the snuffbox comes out. It’s like passing the pepper as well when someone asks for the salt, just comme il faut. The only one to take me up on it was my friend’s fiancée, “Oh, I’ll try anything once.” (Lucky bastard my friend is.) It was Gold Crest and she did admirably for a first-timer, but I don’t think she’ll be trying any more.
Well most of my “pub” friends (say four or five guys) will enjoy a pinch or two of the snuff that I’m actually using at the moment. They enjoy it most of the time so I should really consider giving them a tin or two as a gift sometime in the future.
I’ve been to Poland last week and offered a pinch to my sister, brother in law and to one of their friends. They liked it that much that I had to give them my freshly bought tins of Aecht Altbayerischer and Dholakia Coconut&Toffee, and bought them some Wilsons and Gletcher Prise. Now I gotta do some shopping for myself
@biskup666 Nice Mr. Pink avatar! I love Reservoir Dogs, a Quentin Tarantino classic.
Thanks, Lincoln, they’re just great!
“You’re not Mr. Purple…some udder guy on some udder job is Mr. Purple; you’re MR. PINK.”
I let my friend try whenever they ask me, altrougth for some of them it still be a odd habit…
My father does nothing but bitch and moan about my tobacco use, though he is very happy that I no longer smoke, he still stands by his statement that I look like ‘a crazy drug addict’ tooting powder from my hands/out of a bullet. But even though he whines, I still like to show my snuffs to him if I pick up any that have a particularly interesting texture/scent. Once I opened a smashbox of Himalaya next to him to take some, and he darted out of his seat yelling, ‘JESUS! What did you just do? It reeks! OH MY GOD, YOU’RE GOING TO PUT THAT IN YOUR NOSE?!’ …When I picked up three Sun snuffs: Pari, Sher, and Rasili, I thought it was neat how they each varied so much in color/texture, so I opened them to show him. As some of you already know, Pari is similar to Himalaya. The one he jumped away from… And what do you know, while I’m rotating them to display, he reaches over, GRABS a huge pinch of the Pari from my hands, and before I have the chance to say ‘WHAT ARE YOU-’ he snorts it right up his schnoz! His eyes tear up and he starts yelling, ‘It BURNS! DEAR GOD it BURNS!’ …then ten minutes later, ‘It smells like cat pee!’ … Ten minutes later, ‘It STILL smells like cat pee!’ Ten minutes later… ‘Eww! Cat pee!’ Ten minutes later… ‘You know, that was pretty horrible, but still not as bad as I thought it would be. And it did what I wanted it to, which was clear my right nostril.’ I’m not sure if this counts as ‘letting him try a pinch’, seeing as to how it was completely unexpected. But it did have pretty humorous results.
That has got to be the most awesome thing I’ve read today. Like something right out of shitmydadsays. Maybe we should have a site called, shitmydadsnuffs. Hehehe…
Brought some snuff to my friends house recently. They seemed hesitant as first but all seemed to enjoy it, even asking for another pinch. I sent them some links so they may buy some of their own.
Personally know only 2 snuffers, both old casual users who are happy with 1 or 2 menthols a couple times a day, so not so much offering around here. Snus has been actually bigger hit: one older lady of pakistani origin quit smoking with help of Grov and Ettan portions, snuff didn’t work for her.
I"ve got a colleague who’s been a heavy smoker since I’ve known him who periodicaly tries to quit by incressently chewing on Nicorette Gum. We usually socialize, but not when he’s not smoking: he’s not exacly Mr.Conviviality unless he’s chain smoking Marlboro Reds. I’ve offered to let him try my snuss and my snuff, and he won’t even give it a close look. I think there’s just a certain group of people who are extremely reluctant to put any even slightly mind altering substances in their bodies, whereas others, like myself, have always been only too willing. Of all the ways of taking tobacco, smoking seems to me to the most unusual, even though everyone now takes it for granted. During the last few days, I’ve even taken to having the odd cigarette, mainly because I’m a little overwhelmed at the huge variety of new snuffs I’ve purchased during my initiation into the hobby.
I was bagging groceries at my local supermarket and an old friend that I hadn’t seen in years - long before I tried snuff -checks out. We make plans to catch up. So he comes over one night and after a few drinks I break out my snuff bin and show him all my snuffs. Turns out he used dry scotches occasionally when he was in high school ( because it was easy to steal from the local drugstore! ) and he was very interested. We tried a big variety of types. It was a really fun time! That was the first time that anyone was really interested beyond just the curiosity element. So we drank good beer and snuffed. Good times.
Four! When I was visiting my hometown my best friend and I were catching up over beers at Spike’s Keg O’Nails and he tried a pinch of WoS Royal George. He snuffed it the rest of the night, loved it so much that I let him keep the tin. Unfortunately the next day he suffered from clogging and drainage which he couldn’t abide by, so he put it in the “well, I tried that” category. Another friend still gets a pinch off me every now and again, especially if he’s about to embark on some task. I’m sure the other two will probably accept pinches in the future, they seemed to enjoy it well enough when they tried it. One of the guys I supervise at work tried a pinch of Bernard’s Alt Offenbacher Koestlich. He didn’t hate it, don’t know whether he particularly enjoyed it though…
let my girlfriend try a pinch of Gawith Apricot, now we both are trying to quit smoking using snuff. other than that, I haven’t had anyone else try it. oh well, its their loss lol
I’m not very good at the pinching method so I’m unfortunately I’m not a candidate for offering/demonstrating this method to anyone else and I supposes most people would not want to put a bullet to their nose that just had somebody else’s nose on it. I know now two people who smoke (one of them is a nurse, an RN) and I have tried to persuade them both to try this. The nurse is interested, the other, my longtime good friend who’s watched me progress through E-cigarettes (the only thing he tried, once, when I very first got one and he didn’t object to it but just won’t try it again) can’t get him to even try snus or snuff. He is convinced that snus (even in its little pre-made portions and even as he sees I never spit etc) still insists its like chew or did and as for nasal snuff he only says "I just can’t see putting anything up my nose’ and end of discussion (he’s an old guy in his 60’s and I know him well enough to know you just really can’t push things with him, if you do he just shuts down, the eyes glaze over, and done). a family member who’s an ex-smoker (and at times a wee bit preachy and overly ‘helpful’ with ‘why you should quit smoing’ and ‘how you should quit smoking’ only says of my newfound alternatives that she’s glad I no longer smoke but she would like to see me give nicotine/tobacco up entirely. I advised her of the benefits of nicotine use (such as een she’ll be less likely to get Alzheimer’s as a result of her own smoking history) but that was about the end of that dialog about it too.
Of all the times that I offered a pinch here in Belgium only my wife and a young guy at the dogclub wanted it. But when I go to Germany where snuff is well known to a lot of people there are always takers. I never seen anything other then Singletons snuff here in belgium in the shops. Just across the border, in the Netherlands they have a few others (Pöschl) but that’s it.
Just last night at school I was telling a guy that I was quitting smoking and have started using snuff, he then said that a few years ago he had tried a spearmint snuff, so I pulled out my little container with WoS Extra CoC in it and offered it to him. He took a little pea sized bump and seemed to enjoy it. He said that the smell gave him wicked deja-vu to the first time he had tried it.
I’m a closet snuffer. So haven’t offered it to anyone. Maybe I’ll work my way up to getting out of the closet eventually. My number 1 snuff is the Toque Quit which is too strong for a beginner. Only time I snuff in public is in Vegas at the Black Jack Table. You wouldn’t believe the looks I get. At that time I was using the slide tins I think the regular tins might be more conducive to sharing.
