How long will American Scotch snuffs keep?

Found a great source for getting bulk cans of at least 9 American snuffs.Im wondering will these keep over the long haul? Id like to get 1 maybe 2 of each that they have kind of as a just in case super bulk deal.I have tried quite a few and they are mostly dry as a bone so this will lend to it staying fresh wont it. Any input would be great as I plan to start buying starting next week, probably 2 to 4 at a time every couple weeks until Im all bulked up.

These tend to start out dry. Proper ‘decanting’ into an airtight container - jar with a GOOD seal should allow you to keep your new snuff in great condition indefinately. Should also mention that heat and light can have a negative effect as well.

Dry is Dry so one may think but without proper decanting the scent could be lost even though one might think the there was no moisture to begin with

So when you decant for storage does the container have to be just the right size to hold all the snuff? Like if I have one of those small tins of F&T I imagine I can’t dump that into a 4 qt. mason jar and have it keep, or could I?

@horus92 F&T cans will keep your snuff fresh, a 4 qt. mason jar ? That is a gallon mason jar. I think the jelly size jars would work better.

Don’t think you should have a problem with scotches going stale. They are already bone dry and don’t have much artificial flavours to evaporate away so they should keep pretty good even without an airtight environment. Just think the cans in stores have been sitting there for God knows how long and they’re still good.

They can actually get dryer. Strange but true. Some of the “vintage” ones I’ve found on ebay clearly had not been kept in an airtight environment.

I think Im going to first off stick to the newer plastic containers and secondly Im going to invest in a vacuum sealer. That should go a long way towards keeping it fresh for a long time to come.My main reason for wanting to bulk up is because its so darn hard to find snuff here and now that I found a place to get bulk I want to get while the getting is good.Plus who knows how long its going to be until our wonderful leaders find a way to make it impossible for us to buy from overseas??? Then whats a snuffer to do?

I once heard the theory that they quit making Scotch snuff in the thirties and have been filling tins from a silo full they had left over back then. I buy it by the dozen and have never had any go bad before I use it.

:)] I have been using a variety of snuffs that are now over 20 years of age, kept air tight they mellow quite nicely…and the blends I made are even better now. The British seem to fade more, even in unopened tins. I have published pipe blend recipes back in 1970 in the International Cotiere of Pipe Smokers, kept well and hydrated…seem just as good, keep it dry to avoid any problems…Ivan Ries of Chicago “stole” my collection when I sold them…some famous Danish handmaids, even a custom set that was made as a demo of skills for Dunhill…wish I had them back, some were registered with Charitan and had id numbers…Alas, live and learn!!! Some of these cost over $350 in 1967…Oh, well.

Well I purchased my first batch of bulk Scotches today. Lorillard Sweet Honey Bee Sweet Society Sweet Tops Sweet Square Plain Superior Plain Dental Mild Plain The Food Lion Im getting them at has at least 8 more brands and I will be purchasing them as well over the next few weeks. I never would have guessed a few months ago when I decided to give snuff a try again that it would lead to all of this  Im saving quite a bit snuffing as opposed to dipping so its all good.
